Current methods of sedation in dental patients : a systematic review of the literature
2015
Objetive The main objective of this systematic literature review is to identify the safest and most effective sedative drugs so as to ensure successful sedation with as few complications as possible. Study Design A systematic literature review of the PubMed MEDLINE database was carried out using the key words “conscious sedation,” “drugs,” and “dentistry.” A total of 1,827 scientific articles were found, and these were narrowed down to 473 articles after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. These 473 studies were then individually assessed for their suitability for inclusion in this literature review. Results A total of 21 studies were selected due to their rigorous study design and c…
Bafetinib inhibits functional responses of human eosinophils in vitro
2012
Eosinophils play a prominent role in the process of allergic inflammation. Non-receptor associated Lyn tyrosine kinases generate key initial signals in eosinophils. Bafetinib, a specific Abl/Lyn tyrosine kinase inhibitor has shown a potent antiproliferative activity in leukemic cells, but its effects on eosinophils have not been reported. Therefore, we studied the effects of bafetinib on functional and mechanistic responses of isolated human eosinophils. Bafetinib was more potent than non-specific tyrosin kinase comparators genistein and tyrphostin inhibiting superoxide anion triggered by N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (fMLF; 100 nM) (−log IC50=7.25±0.04 M; 6.1±0.04 M; and 6.55±0.03 M, respectively).…

Sedation During Neurocritical Care
2019
AbstractSedation is an essential therapeutic strategy in the care of neurocritical patients. Intravenous sedative agents are the most widely used, with promising alternatives (dexmedetomidine, ketamine, and volatile agents) to propofol and midazolam arising. Studies designed to evaluate superiority and avoid biases are required. A neurological awakening test is safe in most patients. Potential risks and benefits of limiting deep sedation and daily interruption of sedation in these patients remain unclear. The aim of this review was to report recent clinical evidence on sedation in this subgroup of patients, focusing on its effects on clinical prognosis.
Instability of misoprostol tablets stored outside the blister: a potential serious concern for clinical outcome in medical abortion.
2014
IntroductionMisoprostol (Cytotec) is recognised to be effective for many gynaecological indications including termination of pregnancy, management of miscarriage and postpartum haemorrhage. Although not licensed for such indications, it has been used for these purposes by millions of women throughout the world. Misoprostol tablets are most often packaged as multiple tablets within an aluminium strip, each within an individual alveolus. When an alveolus is opened, tablets will be exposed to atmospheric conditions.ObjectiveTo compare the pharmaco technical characteristics (weight, friability), water content, misoprostol content and decomposition product content (type A misoprostol, type B mis…
Encapsulation of Vitamins A and E as Spray-Dried Additives for the Feed Industry
2020
Encapsulated fat-soluble powders containing vitamin A (VA) and E (VE) were prepared as a feasible additive for extruded feed products. The effect of the encapsulating agents (Capsul-CAP®
Staphylococcus epidermidis virulences faktori un epidemioloģiskā nozīme
2016
Staphylococcus epidermidis svarīgākais virule nces faktors ir biofilmas veidošana. Lai diferencētu komensālos celmus no kolonizējošiem un invazīviem celmiem, pētījumā tika izmantotas fenotipiskās metodes, nosakot biofilmas veidošanu, antibiogrammu, un molekulārās bioloģijas metodes, nosakot virulences gēnus aap / ica A un mec A. Rezultāti liecina, ka biofilmu veidošana raksturīga klīniskajiem celmiem, statistiski ticami biežāk gēni aap/ica A bija noteikti klīniskajos S.epidermidis celmos, tie vis biežāk bija rezistenti pret meticilīnu (97,8%). S.epidermidis tipēšanai pirmo reizi tika pielietota MLST (multilokusu sekvenču tipēšana) metode. Pētījuma rezultāti ļauj secināt par S.epidermidis ge…
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis and its distribution in healthy subjects
2016
Mūsdienās Staphylococcus epidermidis ir nozīmīgs oportūnistiskais patogēns. Tas ir viens no biežākajiem nozokomiālo infekciju izraisītājiem. Staphylococcus epidermidis celmu vidū plaši izplatīta ir rezistence pret antibakteriālajiem līdzekļiem. Maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt meticilīna rezistentā Staphylococcus epidermidis izplatību veseliem cilvēkiem. Meticilīna rezistentais Staphylococcus epidermidis netika konstatēts nevienā acs apakšējā plaksta konjunktīvā. Meticilīna rezistentais Staphylococcus epidermidis tika konstatēts 5 no 42 degunu nāšu paraugiem, kas sastāda 11.9% ± 5%. 1 no 5 meticilīna rezistentajiem Staphylococcus epidermidis paraugiem, kas sastāda 20.0% ± 17.9%, bija biop…
Dampness and student-reported social climate: two multilevel mediation models.
2021
Background Little previous research has analysed the relationship between schools' indoor air problems and schools' social climate. In this study, we analysed a) whether observed mould and dampness in a school building relates to students' perceptions of school climate (i.e. teacher-student relationships and class spirit) and b) whether reported subjective indoor air quality (IAQ) at the school level mediates this relationship. Methods The data analysed was created by merging two nationwide data sets: survey data from students, including information on subjective IAQ (N = 25,101 students), and data from schools, including information on mould and dampness in school buildings (N = 222). The …
Application of Molecular Topology for the Prediction of Reaction Yields and Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Heterocyclic Amidine Derivatives
2011
Topological-mathematical models based on multiple linear regression analyses have been built to predict the reaction yields and the anti-inflammatory activity of a set of heterocylic amidine derivatives, synthesized under environmental friendly conditions, using microwave irradiation. Two models with three variables each were selected. The models were validated by cross-validation and randomization tests. The final outcome demonstrates a good agreement between the predicted and experimental results, confirming the robustness of the method. These models also enabled the screening of virtual libraries for new amidine derivatives predicted to show higher values of reaction yields and anti-infl…
