We investigate how and why the Nokia Corporation failed to develop a successful strategic response to the threats of Apple and Google in the smartphone business and instead worsened its situation t...
Girl With Partial Turner Syndrome and Absence Epilepsy
2007
This report describes a 16-year-old girl with short stature (-5 standard deviations), normal puberty, panic attacks, absence epilepsy, some stigmata of Turner syndrome, and a Madelung deformity. Routine chromosomal analysis revealed a female karyotype with one abnormal chromosome X, with the suspicion of additional material on the short arm. With fluorescent in situ hybridization and array-multiplex amplifiable probe hybridization methodology, a complex aberration was detected, with a deletion of the distal part of Xp22.33 (including the short-stature homeobox gene) and a duplication of Xp22.32-p22.12 proximal to the deleted segment. The deletion in our patient involves the Xp22.33 region. …
Auditory Phenomena and Human Life: Phenomenological Experience
2018
The present study analyzes auditory phenomena from the point of view of hermeneutical phenomenology and shows their interconnectedness with the understanding of man, hearing and listening within the context of human life as the horizon of meaningful sonority and silence. The central questions to be answered in this study are these: What is experienced as sound and sonority? How does a human see himself in inclusion of his being from where he listens, understands, and speaks? The study explores the classical standpoints of Husserl’s phenomenology and other philosophical apprehensions which confirm that auditory phenomena is not to be apprehended solely as an isolated horizon but as being per…
I RODITORI DI CAVA MONTICINO (BRISIGHELLA, RA)
2021
Rodents are the most abundant group of small mammals occurring in Brisighella deposits. They are represented by 12 species in total, among which 2 hamsters (Apocricetus cf. barrierei and Ruscinomys cf. lasallei), 2 dormice (Muscardinus sp. and Myomimus sp.), 1 porcupine (Hystrix (Hystrix) depereti), 2 sciurids (Atlantoxerus cf. rhodius and Hylopetes sp.) and 5 species of muridae (Apodemus cf. gudrunae, Centralomys benericettii, Occitanomys sp, Paraethomys meini and Stephanomys debruijni). This association suggests a relatively dry open environment, interrupted by forest environment with more or less dense underground.
Modelling, analysis, and simulation of mobile-to-mobile MIMO channels
2006
Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2006 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad The development of mobile communication has been dramatically increasing in recent years. New concepts and methods are necessary for the improvement of existing mobile communication techniques due to the fact of the demand for these systems with higher data rates and a better quality of service. As the number of subscribers is growing rapidly, the development of mobile radio channel models has become one of the most important research topics within mobile communication systems. This thesis deals with a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel model for mobile- to-mobile communications. It starts…
Nuorten identiteetti-ilmaisu IRC-Galleriassa : ilmaisukeinoina nimimerkit, profiilikuvat ja kuvatekstit

NUORTEN IDENTITEETTI-ILMAISU IRC-GALLERIASSA Ilmaisukeinoina nimimerkit, profiilikuvat ja kuvatekstit Piia Pyykkönen Sosiologia Pro gradu-tutkielma Yhteiskuntatieteiden ja filosofian laitos Jyväskylän yliopisto Ohjaaja: Terhi-Anna Wilska Syksy 2010 Sivumäärä: 113 Pro gradu-tutkielmani käsittelee nuorten identiteetti-ilmaisua IRC-Galleriassa. Identiteettiilmaisun selvittämisessä ovat apuna nuorten profiilikuvat, niihin liittyvät tekstit sekä nuorten itselleen keksimät nimimerkit. Aineisto on kerätty internetin sosiaalisesta yhteisöpalvelusta IRC-Galleriasta. Aineisto koostuu neljässä eri yhteisössä olevien jäsenten profiilikuvista, niihin liittyvistä kuvateksteistä ja jäsenten nimimerkeistä.…
Off the grid. Touristische Idyllen der Entnetzung
2021
Abstract The article examines the relation of tourism and idyll in regard to the mediation of the tourist experience. Digital detox tourism and off grid tourism are two examples of contemporary tourism – including their respective practices and ways of promotion – that associate certain cultural stereotypes with the idyll. While digital detox tourism promises independence from the digital world, off grid tourism detaches the tourist from infrastructure and supplies. Paradoxically, the advertising of these types of ‘disconnection’ makes use of the same linked infrastructures that tourists are bound to leave behind. Thus, this article reveals the ways in which digital detox tourism and off gr…
Renē Žirārs un Imants Ziedonis: trīsstūra mehānisms
2016
Forchlorfenuron-mimicking haptens: From immunogen design to antibody characterization by hierarchical clustering analysis
2011
To obtain highly-specific and selective forchlorfenuron binders, a collection of functionalized derivatives with different spacer arm locations and lengths was prepared. By immunization with target-mimicking haptens, a large battery of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies against this synthetic cell regulator was produced and exhaustively characterized in two immunoassay formats using homologous and heterologous conjugates. Antibodies with IC50 values lower than 0.3 nM were successfully raised from the prepared immunogens, thus evidencing the efficacy of the explored strategies. In order to identify significant epitopes in the antibody-antigen interaction, a series of new chemical forchlorf…
SARS-CoV-2 in patients with cancer: possible role of mimicry of human molecules by viral proteins and the resulting anti-cancer immunity
2021
AbstractA few reports suggest that molecular mimicry can have a role in determining the more severe and deadly forms of COVID-19, inducing endothelial damage, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and multiorgan failure. Heat shock proteins/molecular chaperones can be involved in these molecular mimicry phenomena. However, tumor cells can display on their surface heat shock proteins/molecular chaperones that are mimicked by SARS-CoV-2 molecules (including the Spike protein), similarly to what happens in other bacterial or viral infections. Since molecular mimicry between SARS-CoV-2 and tumoral proteins can elicit an immune reaction in which antibodies or cytotoxic cells produced against t…
