Substitution effects on the relaxor properties of lead magnesium niobate ceramics

1999

Abstract The temperature dependence of the dielectric permittivity is studied in different Pb(Mg⅓Nb⅔)O3 based ceramics, in which the ordered region size can be changed by introducing titanium or lanthanum ions. Both the relaxor behaviour and the nonlinear dielectric component are found to be dependent on the impurity content. Especially, the nonlinearity increases strongly as the material exhibits a more conventional ferroelectric behaviour, i.e. as the size of the polar clusters, which develop in the paraelectric matrix, increases.

Mean field behaviour of Sr1−xCaxTiO3

1996

A systematic analysis of the dielectric constant as a function of temperature in SrTiO 3 : Ca crystals with Ca content of 0.0020, 0.0032, 0.0055. 0.0058, and 0.0110 shows that the Barrett parameters are clearly modified by the Ca content. We have found for each Ca concentration the temperature below which the contribution of the Ca induced clusters becomes sizeable. The values obtained for the fitted parameters in the Barrett formula allow us to trace a boundary between the low-temperature quantum paraelectric and ferroelectric regimes.

<title>Dielectric polarization in <emph type="1">x</emph>PbZn<formula><inf><roman>1/3</roman></inf>&l…

2005

Manifestation of relaxor properties in the x PbZn1/3Nb2/3O3-(1-x )PbSc1/2Nb1/203 ceramic solid solution system, similar to those observed in lead magnesium niobates, are reported. Dependence of the effective dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss on the temperature at frequencies of 0.1-10 Hz and different measuring field amplitudes E 0 are examined ceramic samples of 0.05PbZn1/3Nb2/3O3-0.95PbSc1/2Nb1/203. It is demonstrated that the temperature at which the dielectric permittivity has a maximum, T m, decreases with the increase of E 0. The dependence of T m on the frequency in both strong and weak fields is shown to follow the Vogel-Fulcher law, with Voger-Fulcher temperature decreasi…

Crystal chemical and dielectric properties of Pb0.5(5-x)LaxNb5-xFexO15system with “tetragonal tungsten bronze” structural type

2005

The lanthanum-lead and iron-niobium coupled substitution in PbNb 2 O 6 have allowed to isolate new materials of a general formula Pb 0.5(5-x) La x Nb 5-x Fe x O 15 crystallising with the tetragonal tungsten bronze structural type. The resulting influence on the lattice parameters, the ferroelectric Curie temperature and Cole - Cole plots are presented. A typical ferroelectric - paraelectric behaviour occurs in the composition range 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.33 while, a relaxor behaviour is observed in the composition range 0.33 < x < 1.

BST ceramics: Effect of attrition milling on dielectric properties

2004

Abstract The effect of grain size on the dielectric properties of Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 (BST) ceramics is investigated. Attrition milling is chosen to obtain nanometre particle size from micrometre particle size powders. Fine grained ceramics are obtained by hot uniaxial pressing (HUP). Additionally, the present study is focused on the effect of the nature of milling balls on loss tangent and permittivity. For that, three kinds of balls are tested: calcia, yttria or ceria stabilised zirconia balls. The properties of these samples are evaluated in the range of MHz. The balls induce an involuntary doping of powders which modifies the dielectric properties, especially the Curie temperature and loss t…

Germanium modified BaTiO3as a promising electroceramics

2016

ABSTRACTThe polycrystalline sample of BaTi0.95Ge0.05O3 was prepared by solid-phase reaction using a conventional method. The morphology of investigated sample was characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results allowed to determining the stoichiometry of the material and evaluate their microstructure. High quality samples were investigated, the grains are well shaped without of a glassy phase. The dielectric properties of the BaTi0.95Ge0.05O3 ceramics were determined. The results were compared with these ones obtained for pure BaTiO3. The obtained data indicated that the substitution of Ge+4 ions had an influence on the values of the real (ϵ′) and imaginary (ϵ″) parts of el…

Pulsed laser deposition of relaxor ferroelectric films

1998

Heterostructures of perovskite relaxor ferroelectric (RFE) thin films onto La 0.5 Sr 0.5 CoO bottom electrode layers were grown by pulsed laser deposition on MgO(100) crystal substrates. The films were highly oriented, with (h00) planes parallel to the substrate surface, and demonstrated good dielectric and ferroelectric quality at room temperature. The studies of the dielectric properties of the films over the frequency range of 20 Hz....100 kHz and over the temperature range of 0...350°C revealed relaxor type behavior in the films. A diffuse ferroelectric phase transition and a shift of the maximum dielectric permittivity towards higher temperatures with increasing frequency were observed…

Processing, basic characterization and standard dielectric measurements on PLZTx/65/35 (4 ≤x≤ 11) ceramics

2014

The influence of external stress (0–800 bar) on the dielectric properties of lead lanthanum zirconium titanate (PLZT) x/65/35 (4 ≤ x ≤ 11) ceramics was investigated. Applying uniaxial pressure leads to a change in the peak intensity of the electric permittivity (ϵ), in its frequency dispersion as well as in the dielectric hysteresis. The peak intensity of ϵ becomes broader and shifts to lower temperatures for PLZT x/65/35 with x = 4, 7, 9.75 and 11, with increasing pressure, on heating. It was concluded that applying uniaxial pressure induces an increase of Tm, and thus has a similar effect as the increase of the Ti ion concentration in the lead zirconium titanate (PZT) system. Results base…

Semi-empirical indo and shell-model calculations for perovskites

1999

Abstract Structural, phonon and some elastic and dielectric properties have been calculated for various paraelectric or ferroelectric phases of the perovskites KNbO3 and SrTiO3, using either the semi-empirical INDO (Intermediate Neglect of Differential Overlap) method or a temperature-dependent shell model. The INDO method was used to calculate the energy changes resulting from [100], [110] or [111] displacements of Nb atoms in the cubic perovskite cell of KNbO3, at 0K. The conventional shell model gives a good account of the elastic, dielectric and phonon properties of the cubic phase of strontium titanate at room temperature, but difficulties remain in modelling the permittivity and elast…

2012

Dielectric properties, polarization and x-ray diffraction are studied for (1−x)Na 1/2 Bi 1/2 TiO 3 -xBaTiO 3 solid solutions in a concentration range above the morphotropic phase boundary. It is showed that all the studied compositions have tetragonal structure with maximal tetragonality slightly above the morphotropic phase boundary. Ferroelectric relaxor behavior is observed in a wide concentration range of BaTiO 3 . Stability of the relaxor state decreases with increasing BaTiO 3 concentration, but only for compositions with low Na 1/2 Bi 1/2 TiO 3 content the normal ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition, which is characteristic to pure BaTiO 3 , occurs. Mechanisms, which influence…
