Authentication of Alicante’s Mountain cherries protected designation of origin by their mineral profile

Abstract Chemometric analysis of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) data was employed to verify the origin of cherry samples of different areas of Spain: Aragon, Caceres, Castellon, Huesca and Alicante’s Mountain Protected Geographic Indication (PGI). The ability of multivariate analysis methods, such as discriminant analysis (DA), was used to achieve cherry classification from their mineral content. Abstract A mathematical model has been developed for the prediction of sample temperature, average moisture and moisture distribution in a cylinder-shaped solid during the drying process. The effect of shrinkage was taken into account. The macroscopic heat balance and the microscopic mass balance combined with Fick's law were simultaneously solved using the Runge-Kutta-Merson method and a numerical finite difference method. Abstract Water barrier properties of three treated papers and of one plastic film were compared and the potential of these packaging films to prevent moisture loss from a sponge cake during storage in standard conditions (25 °C and 50% relative humidity gradient) was evaluated. Sorption isotherms were established at 25 °C for both sponge cake and papers, from which diffusivity values in papers were determined for the whole range of A w . Abstract The solubility of the high grade pelite assemblage albite+K-feldspar+andalusite+quartz at 650 °C and 2 kbar was determined in aqueous solutions over a total chloride range of 0.01–3 mCltot using rapid-quench hydrothermal technique. The concentration of Na, K, Si, and Al was determined in the fluid phase after quench. The K/Na ratio was determined by approaching the equilibrium from below and above. It is 0.34 at low chloride concentrations and decreases slightly to 0.31 with increasing total chloride. Silica and aluminum concentrations were determined only from undersaturation. Abstract We studied tracer (Tritiated Water (HTO); Tritium replaces one of the stable hydrogen atoms in the H 2 O molecule) and nanoparticle (quantum dots (QD)) transport by means of column migration experiments and comparison to 3D CFD modeling. The term “ ontogeny ,” which is commonly used in biology, was introduced into the Earth sciences in 1961 to include the genesis and evolution of single crystals and crystal aggregates. The term encompasses nucleation , growth , alteration , and destruction . We present results of studies concerning the ontogeny of natural corundum (rubies and sapphires), and the chemical and morphological evolution of corundum crystals from deposits in Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar) and Southeast Asia (Vietnam).
