Using Daily Store-level Data to Understand Price Promotion Effects in a Semiparametric Regression Model

2009

Though it has been widely reported in the marketing literature that temporary price discounts generate substantial short-term sales increase, the shape of the deal effect curve constitutes a key research topic, for which there are still limited empirical results. To address this issue, a semiparametric regression approach is used to model the complex nature of this phenomenon. Our model is developed at the brand level using daily store-level scanner-data, which allows the study of several nonreported promotional effects, such as the influence of the day of the week both in promotional and nonpromotional periods. The results show that the weekend is the most effective in increasing promotion…

Electrochemical behaviour of Nafion®+cupromeronic phthalocyanine films

1999

Abstract The surface of indium tin oxide (ITO) and graphite+polymer composite electrodes can be modified by Nafion ® films containing a little amount of dispersed electroactive substances, such as phthalocyanines. This procedure allows electroanalytical information on the electroactive deposited substance to be obtained. The preparative methods of these type of modified electrodes are discussed from voltammetric results in this work. The proposed equivalent circuit explains the voltammetric differences between these electrodes. The Nafion ® net acts as a permeable membrane to the hydrogen ions. Besides, the presence of methylviologen within the Nafion ® film makes the electron transport thr…

Proton Transport in Membranes Prepared from Sulfonated Polystyrene-Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Blends

2001

The preparation of new cation-exchange membranes from polymer composites based on poly(vinylidene fluoride), sulfonated polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene, and antimonic acid is reported. The thermal properties of the composites have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry. Values of the transport number of protons in the membranes were obtained from the observable electric potential. It is defined from the potential difference measured between the electrodes reversible to one of the constituent ions in equilibrium with the system. When compared with Nafion cation-exchange membranes, the membranes described in this work exhibit interesting proton transport properties that could m…

Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer for the simultaneous selective extraction of phenoxy acid herbicides from environmental water samples

2022

[EN] A selective magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MMIP) was synthetized with 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid as template and 4-vinylpiridine as monomer in presence of vinylized magnetite nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and vibrating sample magnetometry were applied to characterize the resulting material. The synthesized MMIP was applied as sorbent in magnetic molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MMISPE) for selective extraction of a mixture of the five herbicides 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA), 4-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)butyric acid (MCPB), mecoprop (MCPP), fenoxa…

Future Projection of precipitation changes in the Júcar and Segura River Basins (Iberian Peninsula) by CMIP5 GCMs Local Downscaling

2021

The basins of the Júcar and Segura rivers, on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, present a special water problem and are of particular interest regarding climate change. These basins are very vulnerable to a possible scenario of decreasing water resources. Recent studies on historic rainfall since 1955 have indicated an ongoing loss of precipitation in their headwaters, especially in the case of the Júcar river. The aim of the present study is to perform climate projections for the precipitation variable for several future periods (2021–2040, 2051–2070, 2081–2100) and emission scenarios (RCPs 4.5, 8.5) within the Júcar and Segura River Basin authorities. For this purpose, a s…

Ion selectivity and water dissociation in polymer bipolar membranes studied by membrane potential and current–voltage measurements

2000

Abstract A polymer bipolar ion-exchange membrane consists of a layered structure involving one cation and one anion ion-exchange layer joined together in series. In this study, the ionic selectivity and water dissociation rate of six commercial bipolar membranes was evaluated from the measurements of the membrane potential in a concentration cell and the current–voltage curve in a four-point measuring cell. Bipolar membrane technology requires polymer membranes presenting high ion selectivities and water dissociation rates, and in this paper we have addressed the basic physico-chemical phenomena involved, both theoretically and experimentally. We have shown that the effects of the bipolar j…

Sequence type 101 (ST101) as the predominant carbapenem-non-susceptible Klebsiella pneumoniae clone in an acute general hospital in Italy.

2012

Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most common multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative organisms worldwide, responsible for high morbidity and mortality both in hospitals and alternative healthcare settings. Recently, increasing use of carbapenems has promoted the emergence and dissemination of carbapenem-non-susceptible MDR K. pneumoniae strains. All of the CNSKP strains isolated between January 2009 and December 2011 in the General Hospital of Prato (Prato, Italy) were studied. Our findings indicate that, unlike previously reported by other authors from different regions of Italy, K. pneumoniae producing KPC-2 and belonging to ST101 have been established in the area of Prato, Tuscany, It…

Nuclear rDNA-based molecular clock of the evolution of Triatominae (Hemiptera : Reduviidae), vectors of Chagas disease

2000

The evolutionary history and times of divergence of triatomine bug lineages are estimated from molecular clocks inferred from nucleotide sequences of the small subunit SSU (18S) and the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA of these reduviids. The 18S rDNA molecular clock rate in Triatominae, and Prosorrhynchan Hemiptera in general, appears to be of 1.8% per 100 million years (my). The ITS-2 molecular clock rate in Triatominae is estimated to be around 0.4-1% per 1 my, indicating that ITS-2 evolves 23-55 times faster than 18S rDNA. Inferred chronological data about the evolution of Triatominae fit well with current hypotheses on their evolutionary histories…
