Does the freshwater mussel Anodonta anatina remove the fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare from water?

2021

AbstractGlobal decline of freshwater mussels (Unionoida) is threatening biodiversity and the essential ecosystem services that mussels provide. As filter-feeding organisms, freshwater mussels remove phytoplankton and suspended particles from the water. By filtering bacteria, freshwater mussels also decrease pathogen loads in the water. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the common freshwater bivalve Anodonta anatina (duck mussel) could remove the bacterial fish pathogen Flavobacterium columnare from the water. Mussels reduced bacteria in both of the two experiments performed, so that the bacterial concentration at the end of the 96-h monitoring in mussel treatments was only…

Analysis of involvement of the 3?-untranslated regions in regulating mRNA stability for vitellogenin, cyanoprotein ?, and cyanoprotein ? from the bea…

2002

The degradation of the 3'-untranslated regions (UTRs) of vitellogenin, cyanoprotein alpha, and cyanoprotein beta from the bean bug, Riptortus clavatus, was analyzed in vitro. The degradation pattern was similar for all three RNAs, with a high degradation rate in non-diapausing adult insects and no degradation in the fifth instar nymphs and in diapausing adults, and was not correlated with the expression levels of these three proteins. Proteins binding to the 3'-UTRs were detected in polysomal and cytosolic extracts. These factors, however, were present in all developmental stages. The abundance of the polysomal factor showed little variation, but the cytosolic factor was enriched in adult i…

Dzīvnieku metaforas lietišķos rakstos žurnālā "Forbes"

2016

Diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of hemiplegic migraine

2020

Hemiplegic migraine (HM) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous condition with attacks of headache and motor weakness which may be associated with impaired consciousness, cerebellar ataxia and intellectual disability. Motor symptoms usually last <72 hours and are associated with visual or sensory manifestations, speech impairment or brainstem aura. HM can occur as a sporadic HM or familiar HM with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. Mutations in CACNA1A, ATP1A2 and SCN1A encoding proteins involved in ion transport are implicated. The pathophysiology of HM is close to the process of typical migraine with aura, but appearing with a lower threshold and more severity. We review…

Microtrichial patterns of the mesothoracic wing surface in Scutelleridae (Hemiptera)

2013

AbstractNew data on forewing microtrichial patterns are presented. Nineteen species representing 19 genera and seven subfamilies of Afrotropical Scutelleridae are investigated using scanning electron microscopy. Four types of microtrichial patterns are recognised. The taxonomic importance of these structures in the Scutelleridae is discussed.

Yhteisopetus erityisopettajan työmuotona esi- ja alkuopetuksessa

2015

Tämän tutkimuksen aiheena on yhteisopetus erityisopettajan näkökulmasta. Yhteisopetuksella tarkoitetaan työtapaa, jossa luokassa on paikalla kaksi tai useampia ammattilaisia. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää esi- ja alkuopetuksessa työskentelevien erityisopettajien kokemuksia yhteisopetuksen haasteista ja mahdollisuuksista. Tutkimus käsittelee myös kolmiportaisen tuen toteutumista yhteisopetuksen näkökulmasta sekä erityisopettajan työnkuvan muutosta yhteisopetuksen myötä. Aineisto on kerätty kyselylomakkeella Hollolan kunnan esi- ja alkuopetuksessa työskenteleviltä erityisopettajilta. Kyselylomakkeen avulla saatua aineistoa on täydennetty kolmen erityisopettajan haastatteluilla. Tutkimu…

Changes in the frequency of the Weather Regimes over the Euro-Atlantic and Mediterranean sector and their relation to the anomalous temperatures over…

2013

19 pages; International audience; An exercise has been carried out to assess to what extent the Euro-Atlantic Weather Regimes (WR),described from the ERA-interim Reanalysis in the summer season, projects onto a pool of AGCMAMIPsimulations in which sea surface temperatures (SST) are prescribed from observations.Although the model simulations present some biases in the spatial structure and seasonality of WRs,exhibiting also less variability, they are able to capture main WR over the region in summer season:+Middle East –Middle East, +NAO, -NAO. WR paradigm is used to quantify changes in theatmosphere under warmer/colder than normal conditions over the Mediterranean Sea. To addressthis proble…

Etude de l’infection la plante parasite Rhamphicarpa fistulosa en riziculture au Togo

2013

Rhamphicarpa fistulosa (Hochst.) Benth. is an annual facultative root-parasitic weed found in lowlands and floodplains in tropical Africa. It has been reported as the major constraint to rice cultivation in the savannah region of Togo. A survey was conducted in 2012 to access its distribution and to collect information on farmers' knowledge of its control. Rhamphicarpa fistulosa was found in 80% of the 33 visited lowlands. The period of abundance is in August-September when the highest infection (90%) was found on sandy and clay soils. When the parasite was present, 94 other weeds belonging to 24 botanical families were recorded. As management method, farmers use weeding and chemical fertil…
