Circuit proposals for high-voltage latching current limiters

2019

This work discusses some ideas to adapt existing low voltage Latching Current Limiter (LCL) circuits to high voltage operation to provide a basis for future designs. Component selection, driver and ancillary power supply are key issues discussed which eventually provides a high-voltage LCL proposal. Experimental validation of two different prototypes (380Vdc and 1kVdc) is included as well as some digital techniques to enhance LCL capabilities.

Selective targeting of avidin/mannose 6-phosphate receptor chimeras to early or late endosomes

2000

Summary In this study we have used the Semliki forest virus expression system to transiently express chimeric proteins that contain transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains of the cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptor (CI-MPR) fused to chicken avidin. Immunofluorescence and electron microscopy studies showed that the chimeric protein with the entire cytoplasmic domain of CI-MPR was transported to late endosomes, where it accumulated. We made use of the biotin-binding capacity of lumenal avidin, and found that, in agreement with this distribution, the chimeric protein could be labelled with biotinylated HRP endocytosed for a long, but not a brief, period of time. However, truncation o…

The Diapause Lipidomes of Three Closely Related Beetle Species Reveal Mechanisms for Tolerating Energetic and Cold Stress in High-Latitude Seasonal E…

2020

During winter insects face energetic stress driven by lack of food, and thermal stress due to sub-optimal and even lethal temperatures. To survive, most insects living in seasonal environments such as high latitudes, enter diapause, a deep resting stage characterized by a cessation of development, metabolic suppression and increased stress tolerance. The current study explores physiological adaptations related to diapause in three beetle species at high latitudes in Europe. From an ecological perspective, the comparison is interesting since one species (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) is an invasive pest that has recently expanded its range into northern Europe, where a retardation in range expa…

Prevalence and Prognostic Role of IDH Mutations in Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Results of the GIMEMA AML1516 Protocol

2022

Simple Summary IDH1/2 mutations are a common event in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and represent a therapeutic target. We designed the GIMEMA AML1516 observational protocol to examine the prevalence of IDH1/2 mutations and the associations between IDH mutations and clinico-biological parameters in a cohort of Italian patients affected by AML. By analyzing 284 consecutive adult AML patients, we confirmed that IDH1 and IDH2 mutations are frequently detected-14% and 18%, respectively-at diagnosis. IDH1/2 mutations were significantly associated with an inferior performance status and non-complex karyotype when compared to IDH1/2-WT. With regards to the outcome, in the subset of IDH1/2-mutated p…

Single molecule localization microscopy of the distribution of chromatin using Hoechst and DAPI fluorescent probes.

2014

Several approaches have been described to fluorescently label and image DNA and chromatin in situ on the single-molecule level. These superresolution microscopy techniques are based on detecting optically isolated, fluorescently tagged anti-histone antibodies, fluorescently labeled DNA precursor analogs, or fluorescent dyes bound to DNA. Presently they suffer from various drawbacks such as low labeling efficiency or interference with DNA structure. In this report, we demonstrate that DNA minor groove binding dyes, such as Hoechst 33258, Hoechst 33342, and DAPI, can be effectively employed in single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) with high optical and structural resolution. Upon ill…

Ongoing spread of colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in different wards of an acute general hospital, Italy, June to December 2011.

2012

We describe polyclonal spread of colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in an acute general hospital in Italy. Between June and December 2011, 58 colistin-resistant K. pneumoniae isolates were recovered from 28 patients admitted to different wards, but mainly in the intensive care units. All isolates were tested for drug susceptibility and the presence of beta-lactamase (bla) genes. Clonality was investigated by repetitive extragenic palindromic (rep)-PCR and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Fifty-two isolates had minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for colistin of 6-128 mg/L, carried blaKPC3 and were attributed to sequence type ST258. The remaining six isolates were susceptible to…

CSCW '98 workshop program

1998

This workshop will discuss different approaches used to evaluate CSCW systems. Our goal is to produce a taxonomy of evaluation methodologies for CSCW systems, idenillYing the type of systems for \\hich a technique is most useful, the stage of development in \\bich a methodology is appropriate, the resources needed to conduct an evaluation, and the appropriate measures for the various techniques. We plan to discuss various methods of data collection for collaborative work and identi1)' the evaluation methodologies for \\hich various types of data collection are most appropriate. Other issues we hope to discuss during the workshop include sharing and comparing collected data, the usefulness o…

Distributed Real-Time Sentiment Analysis for Big Data Social Streams

2014

Big data trend has enforced the data-centric systems to have continuous fast data streams. In recent years, real-time analytics on stream data has formed into a new research field, which aims to answer queries about "what-is-happening-now" with a negligible delay. The real challenge with real-time stream data processing is that it is impossible to store instances of data, and therefore online analytical algorithms are utilized. To perform real-time analytics, pre-processing of data should be performed in a way that only a short summary of stream is stored in main memory. In addition, due to high speed of arrival, average processing time for each instance of data should be in such a way that…
