Structure and characteristics of laser crystallized thin amorphous Si films
2011
Abstract Pure amorphous Si thin films deposited on oxidized crystalline Si surface (111) were crystallized by picosecond UV laser pulses. The Raman scattering spectra show that pulse energy of 330 mJ/cm2 is enough to fully crystallize Si film and further increase of the energy does not improve crystallinity. A large grained polycrystalline Si was obtained as revealed by surface analysis. A significant increase in carrier mobility was observed after laser crystallization.
Foro de educación
2014
Genetic and Biochemical Analysis of PadR-padC Promoter Interactions during the Phenolic Acid Stress Response in Bacillus subtilis 168
2011
ABSTRACT Bacillus subtilis 168 is resistant to phenolic acids by expression of an inducible enzyme, the phenolic acid decarboxylase (PadC), that decarboxylates these acids into less toxic vinyl derivatives. In the phenolic acid stress response (PASR), the repressor of padC , PadR, is inactivated by these acids. Inactivation of PadR is followed by a strong expression of padC . To elucidate the functional interaction between PadR and the padC promoter, we performed (i) footprinting assays to identify the region protected by PadR, (ii) electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSAs) with a modified padC promoter protected region to determine the interacting sequences, and (iii) random mutagenesi…
Libre circulation des travailleurs dans l'Union Européenne et tutelle des droits individuels de retraite complémentaire: un chantier inachevé
2013
Freedom of movement of workers within the EU implies adequate regulation of risks incurred by workers on the occasion of the exercise of this freedom. Among these risks, there is the possibility for community workers to lose or at least find themselves unable to give their supplementary retirement pension individual rights an unitary and continuous character when they decide to settle in another member State. What are the legislative solutions already proposed by the Community legislature and even those expected by community workers to be protected from these dangers? Provide a draft answer to this question is the main concern of this work.
Conditions of commodification : Russian as a transient commodity in an Arctic tourism resort
2022
Abstract Based on an ethnography incorporating interview, linguistic landscape and observational data, this research illustrates how temporary linguistic value is negotiated and how an Arctic tourism destination is made fit for consumption for a specific audience. Set within a tourism resort in the Finnish Arctic during two weeks in Winter when the region habitually receives a large influx of Russian-speaking visitors, we illustrate how Russian is conceptualized as a means of economic practice by stakeholders in the local tourism industry. While some offer services specifically for a Russian-speaking audience as part of a short-term high-risk/high-reward investment, others regard Russian as…
Beta-MSH inhibits brain inflammation via MC(3)/(4) receptors and impaired NF-kappaB signaling.
2005
The anti-inflammatory effects of melanocortin peptides have been demonstrated in different inflammation models. This is the first report describing the molecular mechanisms for the beta-MSH-induced suppression of bacterial lipopolisaccharide (LPS)-caused brain inflammation. We found that beta-MSH suppresses LPS-induced nuclear translocation of the transcription factor NF-kappaB, and inhibits the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, and the following nitric oxide overproduction in the brain, in vivo. Moreover, administering the preferentially MC(4) receptor selective antagonist HS014 blocked completely these effects, suggesting a tentative MC(4) receptor mediated mechanism of actio…
Acute exercise activates nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB signaling pathway in rat skeletal muscle.
2004
Two studies were performed to investigate the effects of an acute bout of physical exercise on the nuclear protein kappaB (NF-kappaB) signaling pathway in rat skeletal muscle. In Study 1, a group of rats (n=6) was run on the treadmill at 25 m/min, 5% grade, for 1 h or until exhaustion (Ex), and compared with a second group (n=6) injected with two doses of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC, 100 mg/kg, i.p.) 24 and 1 h prior to the acute exercise bout. Three additional groups of rats (n=6) were injected with either 8 mg/kg (i.p.) of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 1 mmol/kg (i.p.) t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP), or saline (C) and killed at resting condition. Ex rats showed higher levels of NF-kappaB b…
Photoreactive Liquid Crystals in the Series of Dendritic and Cyclic Stilbenoid Compounds
2000
The dendrimers 1 and 2 and the areno-condensed annulenes 3 and 4 represent new mesogens for the generation of discotic mesophases. The stilbenoid building blocks of these compounds provide the molecular basis for interesting photochemical and photophysical effects like dimerisation, oligomerisation or the formation of charge carriers.
The mobility network of European tourists: a longitudinal study and a comparison with geo-located Twitter data
2018
Purpose This paper aims to provide a network study of the structural and dynamical characteristics of tourism flows in Europe from 1995 to 2012. Design/methodology/approach Travels in Europe were studied by following the network science research paradigm and by focusing on the whole network of intra-European tourism destinations. Network analysis was used to map and reveal the pattern of connections between states as shaped by bilateral tourism flows. Data were provided by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and the data were integrated with tourism data available from national statistical offices of the individual countries, when necessary. Findings For 2012, results obtained f…
Coping with the costs of car dependency : A system of expedients used by low-income households on the outskirts of Dijon and Paris
2018
International audience; Living on low incomes and in a car-dependent area is often interpreted as a double burden for households, even if the two characteristics are often interdependent. While their capacity for mobility is lower, low-income households in outer suburban areas are nonetheless mobile. Their capacities in this domain should not be underestimated or overlooked. They can command a set of alternative practices or expedients to deal with car-related economic stress by a set of resources derived essentially from spatial proximity. This article aims to present and analyse the diversity of these expedients for the case of outer suburban areas around Paris and Dijon. The analysis of …
