Background: Active aging has been established as a policy goal for aging societies. We define active aging at the individual level as striving for elements of well-being through activities in relation to a person’s goals, functional capacities and opportunities. Increasing evidence suggests that any meaningful activity is beneficial for different aspects of well-being in older people. Three fundamental ideas in the study of intergenerational mobility are those of structural mobility, origin independence and rank reversal. We review the theoretical literature focused on the three ideas and present evidence from a questionnaire designed to test students’ views regarding the different notions. The questionnaire is conducted under both a “measurement” and an “evaluation” frame; it uses questions involving both verbal statements of the principles tested and pairwise comparisons of simple hypothetical mobility situations; for the latter exercise, the questionnaire introduces a new intuitive display based on mobility trees. New entrants to university : the determinants of regional mobility. This paper aims at understanding the regional mobility of new entrants to university. The regional mobility appears to be marginal. But, the impact of social and academic characteristics shows that self selection processes exist. The combined effects of field and regional impacts highlight the role of the availability of university curricula on student choice.

The central issue in the regulation of genome functions is the mechanism of sequence-specific protein-nucleic acid interactions. Gene expression, replication, recombination and DNA condensation in chromatin are steered by binding of regulatory protein ligands to specific sites in DNA. Numerous methods have been developed to study protein-DNA interactions. In this chapter we discuss two widely used and straightforward approaches to address this problem.

The proposed study will present an analysis of cruise passengers’ behavior at their destination. Mobility behavior will be analyzed in relation to socio-demographic characteristics through a survival modeling approach. Data collected through GPS devices on cruise passengers’ behavior in the ports of Palermo and Dubrovnik will be analyzed in order to determine similarities and differences among cruise passengers’ behaviors at their destination, according to socio-demographic characteristics.
