Restricted and complete-active-space multiconfiguration linear response calculations of the polarizability of formamide and urea

1991

Abstract Using the polarized basis sets of Sadlej, we have carried out multiconfiguration linear response (MCLR) calculations of static and dynamic polarizabilities of water, carbon dioxide, formamide and urea. It is found that the polarized basis sets give a good description of the polarizabilities. The uncorrelates (self-consistent field) polarizabilities are in general 10% or more lower than the experimental values. The correlation as introduced in the complete-active-space (CAS) and restricted-active-space (RAS) MCLR calculations recovers the major part of this deviation.

Photoredox-Catalyzed Four-Component Reaction for the Synthesis of Complex Secondary Amines.

2020

The one-pot sulfonylation/aminoalkylation of styrene derivatives furnishing substituted γ-sulfonylamines was accomplished through a photoredox-catalyzed four-component reaction. Besides one molecule of water and the sodium counterion of the sulfinate, all atoms of the starting materials are transferred to the final product, rendering this process highly atom-efficient. The operationally simple protocol allows for the simultaneous formation of three new single bonds (C-S, C-N, and C-C) and therefore grants rapid access to structurally diverse products.

Selective CO 2 Sorption Using Compartmentalized Coordination Polymers with Discrete Voids**

2021

Carbon capture and storage with porous materials is one of the most promising technologies to minimize CO2 release into the atmosphere. Here, we report a family of compartmentalized coordination polymers (CCPs) capable of capturing gas molecules in a selective manner based on two novel tetrazole-based ligands. Crystal structures have been modelled theoretically under the Density Functional Theory (DFT) revealing the presence of discrete voids of 380 A3 . Single gas adsorption isotherms of N2 , CH4 and CO2 have been measured, obtaining a loading capacity of 0.6, 1.7 and 2.2 molecules/void at 10 bar and at 298 K for the best performing material. Moreover, they present excellent selectivity an…

Self-assembly properties of the proteinaceous coat secreted by the ?slime? variant of Neurospora crassa

1989

The proteinaceous extracellular material (PEM) synthesized by the cells of the ‘slime” strain of Neurospora crassa (see Martinez et al. 1989) was solubilized by treatment with urea or guanidine. Removal of these chemicals by dialysis, caused reassembly of the solubilized proteins into material with the same microscopic appearance as the original PEM. Polypeptide patterns from both native and reassembled structures were identical. Dialysis-mediated reassembly of the solubilized proteins appeared to be dependent on both concentration of the soluble macromolecules and time. Gel chromatography of PEM solubilized with different agents revealed two discrete populations of complexes with molecular…

Photo-fragmentation of alkyl phosphates in the gas-phase

2018

Abstract Alkyl phosphates are experiencing an ever increasing use due to the current arising of new applications. This implies their increasing presence in the environment so their stability and reactivity under high-energy photons, which are still unknown, need to be clarified. In this study, a mass spectrometric investigation of the ionization and fragmentation processes of four representative alkyl phosphates (dibutyl, tributyl, bis-2-ethylhexyl, and tris-2-ethylhexyl phosphate) induced by vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation has been carried out. The experimental data show that fragmentation occurs through a stepwise cleavage of the bonds between the phosphate group and the alkyl chains l…

Sesquiterpene lactones from Artemisia lucentica

1997

Abstract The aerial parts of Artemisia lucentica yielded, in addition to several known compounds, a bicyclic monoterpene ketone, two germacranolides, an eudesmanolide, a 10- epi neudesmanolide, a 2-norelemanolide and three bisabolene derivatives. The stereochemistry of a germacranolide, described as 2α-hydroxyartemorin in a previous investigation of the species, has now been corrected and the compound has been renamed lucentolide.

Dunham coefficients of 14N2 from CARS measurements of high vibrational states in a low-pressure discharge

1988

Spectroscopic constants of the X1Σg+ ground state of 14N2 are deduced from CARS spectra recorded in a 4 Torr d.c. N2 glow discharge. Vibrational states up to ν = 14 have been observed but only the 11 lower levels which have a good signal-to-noise ratio have been processed. The Dunham constants that were deduced yield vibrational band centre positions in good agreement with those of Lofthus and Krupenie.

Iodine Clathrated: A Solid‐State Analogue of the Iodine–Starch Complex

2019

Co-crystallizing iodine with a simple dicationic salt (1,8-diammoniumoctane chloride) results in the clathration of the iodine (I2 ) molecules inside trigonal and hexagonal helical channels of the crystal lattice with 72 wt % overall I2 loading. The I2 inside the bigger trigonal channel forms a I-I⋅⋅⋅I-I⋅⋅⋅I-I halogen-bonded infinite helical chain, while the I2 in the smaller hexagonal channel is disordered. In both channels the I2 interaction with the channel wall happens through I-I⋅⋅⋅Cl- halogen bonds. The helical channels in the crystal lattice are constructed via the strong charge-assisted H2 N+ H⋅⋅⋅Cl- hydrogen bonds between the dications and the chloride anions. The structure shows a…

N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Salts: A Versatile Family of Calixarene-Related Host Molecules

2016

This chapter presents a review of the recent advances in the chemistry of N-alkylammonium resorcinarenes salt receptors. The Mannich condensation between amines (primary and secondary) and resorcinarenes result in resorcinarene tetrabenzoxazines and tetra-azoxazines. Only 2 isomers out of 16 potential isomers are formed. The resorcinarene tetrabenzoxazines possess deeper cavities than the parent resorcinarenes which are suitable for binding neutral and cationic guests. In the presence of mineral acids, the six-membered oxazine ring in the resorcinarene tetrabenzoxazines is opened, resulting in N-alkylammonium resorcinarene salts (NARSs). The NARSs possess four spatially-fixed anions within …
