Mesoporous silica materials for use in electrochemical immunosensing

2013

Abstract Silica-based electrochemical immunosensors recently gained much importance for detecting antigens and biomarkers responsible for cancer diagnosis. This review describes fabrication and chemical modification of the surfaces of mesoporous silica materials for biomedical and immunosensing applications. We also present a comprehensive overview of current developments and key issues in the determination of some biological molecules with particular emphasis on evaluating the models.

Metallacrown Complexes Reaching the Nanosize Regime

2018

Abstract The chapter discusses the merit of metallacrown complexes to achieve multifunctional and multidimensional molecular materials. It introduces basic design strategies for discrete metallacrown complexes and discusses the predictability of molecular properties. Thereafter, it reviews two of the most outstanding molecular properties of metallacrown complexes, namely, the magnetic and luminescence characteristics. Most interestingly, for metallacrown complexes, such properties could be combined in one single molecule, giving rise to stable “multifunctional” molecular materials. Moreover, MCs are suitable building blocks to construct multidimensional coordination polymers. The chapter pr…

3,3'-Bicarbazole structural derivatives as charge transporting materials for use in OLED devices

2018

In this study we report novel 3,3′-bicarbazole based charge transporting materials mainly designed for a use in systems containing phosphorescent iridium (III) complex emitters. A low-cost oxidative coupling reaction using FeCl3 was employed in the synthesis of 3,3′-bicarbazole compounds. Different derivatives of 3,3′-bicarbazole with 4-ethoxyphenyland ethyl- substituents at 9,9′- positions and (2,2-diphenylhydrazono)methyl- and 4-(dimethylamino)styryl- substituents at 6,6′- positions were synthesized. Obtained (2,2-diphenylhydrazono)methyl- derivatives exhibit glass transition temperatures that are sufficient for applications in electronic devices. Thin amorphous films of good optical qual…

Nonlinear Macromolecules by Ring-Opening Polymerization

2012

Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) is a well-established method for the controlled synthesis of linear polymers, which can be found in various everyday applications. However, during the past decades, there has been an increasing interest in the generation of nonlinear highly branched polymers, profiting from the fascination created by the structurally perfect dendrimers. The applicability of various heterocyclic monomers renders the ring-opening multibranching polymerization (ROMBP), a versatile tool for the generation of multifunctional hyperbranched polymers. First, the historical key steps leading to the development of ROMBP are described, which is the basis for the controlled synthesis o…

Solid State Analysis of Metal-Containing Polymers Employing Mossbauer Spectroscopy, Solid State NMR and F EI TOF MALDI MS

2010

Polymers in general and metal-containing polymers in particular are often sparingly soluble or insoluble, in contrast to small molecules. Thus, special significance is attached to characterization techniques that can be applied to the materials as solids. Here, three techniques are discussed that give structural information gained from the solid material. Mossbauer spectroscopy is a powerful technique that may give information on the structure about the metal-containing moiety for about 44 different nuclei. Its use in describing the structure of the product obtained from organotin dichlorides and the unsymmetrical ciprofloxacin is presented along with the reaction implications of the result…

Regio- and diastereoselective fluorination of alicyclic β-amino acids.

2011

A regio- and stereoselective approach to fluorinated β-aminocyclohexene or cyclohexane esters has been developed, starting from a bicyclic β-lactam (1). The procedure involves six or seven steps, based on regio- and stereoselective iodolactonization, lactone opening and hydroxy–fluorine exchange. The method has been extended to the synthesis of fluorinated amino ester enantiomers.

Asymmetric synthesis of fluorinated amino macrolactones through ring-closing metathesis

2007

The synthesis of new chiral fluorinated amino and azamacrolactones of types 1 and 2 is described. A ring-closing metathesis (RCM) reaction constitutes the key step in this methodology, which uses fluorinated amino alcohols 7 as starting materials. The influence of the CF2 group, which is located in the alpha-position relative to the carbon bearing the amino group, on the efficiency of the RCM reaction is noteworthy. This method allows for the preparation of the desired fluorinated macrolactones in excellent yields.

Ligand design for multidimensional magnetic materials: a metallosupramolecular perspective.

2008

The aim and scope of this review is to show the general validity of the ‘complex-as-ligand’ approach for the rational design of metallosupramolecular assemblies of increasing structural and magnetic complexity. This is illustrated herein on the basis of our recent studies on oxamato complexes with transition metal ions looking for the limits of the research avenue opened by Kahn's pioneering research twenty years ago. The use as building blocks of mono-, di- and trinuclear metal complexes with a novel family of aromatic polyoxamato ligands allowed us to move further in the coordination chemistry-based approach to high-nuclearity coordination compounds and high-dimensionality coordination po…

Novel acrylamido monomers with higher hydrophilicity and improved hydrolytic stability: III. DNA separations by capillary electrophoresis in poly(N-a…

1996

Separation of DNA fragments in a novel polymer network, consisting of N-acryloylaminopropanol (AAP) is reported. The performance of this novel monomer, as a sieving liquid polymer in capillary zone electrophoresis, was evaluated. In 50 microns ID capillaries, an 8% solution of poly (AAP) can afford apex-resolution of the 123/124 bp adjacent pair of DNA fragments in marker V, typically unresolved in any poly (acrylamide) formulation. It is proposed that the distal-OH group in the AAP molecule can form transient H-bonds with the DNA double helix. Molecular modeling shows a meandering structure for poly (AAP), lacing the walls of half a cylinder, with kinks protruding at regular intervals, pot…
