Santo Dominguito de Val: La ?tradición? como arma arrojadiza a disposición de los poderes establecidos

2019

This study focuses, from a short story of the blood libel of Saint Dominguito de Val, on answering the questions of when and why the ?tradition? was made about this saint, and the specific moments of his Revitalization until the end of the 17th century. Although the short story of the death of this infant has been occupied by the most diverse writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, we take as reference the master Espés and the chroniclers Blancas, Andrés de Uztarroz and Dormer.

On achieving near-optimal “Anti-Bayesian” Order Statistics-Based classification fora asymmetric exponential distributions

2013

Published version of a Chapter in the book: Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-40261-6_44 This paper considers the use of Order Statistics (OS) in the theory of Pattern Recognition (PR). The pioneering work on using OS for classification was presented in [1] for the Uniform distribution, where it was shown that optimal PR can be achieved in a counter-intuitive manner, diametrically opposed to the Bayesian paradigm, i.e., by comparing the testing sample to a few samples distant from the mean - which is distinct from the optimal Bayesian paradigm. In [2], we showed that the results could be extended for a few sym…

“Anti-Bayesian” parametric pattern classification using order statistics criteria for some members of the exponential family

2013

This paper submits a comprehensive report of the use of order statistics (OS) for parametric pattern recognition (PR) for various distributions within the exponential family. Although the field of parametric PR has been thoroughly studied for over five decades, the use of the OS of the distributions to achieve this has not been reported. The pioneering work on using OS for classification was presented earlier for the uniform distribution and for some members of the exponential family, where it was shown that optimal PR can be achieved in a counter-intuitive manner, diametrically opposed to the Bayesian paradigm, i.e., by comparing the testing sample to a few samples distant from the mean. A…

Optimal “anti-Bayesian” parametric pattern classification for the exponential family using Order Statistics criteria

2012

Published version of a chapter in the book: Image Analysis and Recognition. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-31295-3_2 This paper reports some pioneering results in which optimal parametric classification is achieved in a counter-intuitive manner, quite opposed to the Bayesian paradigm. The paper, which builds on the results of [1], demonstrates (with both theoretical and experimental results) how this can be done for some distributions within the exponential family. To be more specific, within a Bayesian paradigm, if we are allowed to compare the testing sample with only a single point in the feature space from each class, the optimal Bayesian strat…

An efficient integral equation technique for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped capacitive waveguide circuits

2011

In this paper a new and efficient integral equation formulation is presented for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped capacitive waveguide devices. The technique benefits from the symmetry of the structure in order to reduce the dimensions of the problem from three to two dimensions. For the first time, this technique formulates the waveguide capacitive discontinuity problem as a 2D scattering problem with oblique incidence, combined with an efficient calculation of the parallel plate Green's functions. Results for a capacitive impedance transformer are successfully compared with measurements for validation of the proposed theory.

Hardware Computation of Moment Functions in a Silicon Retina Using Binary Patterns

2006

International audience; We present in this paper a method for implementing moment functions in a CMOS retina for shape recognition applications. The method is based on the use of binary patterns and it allows the computation of different moment functions such geometric and Zernike moments of any orders by an adequate choice of the binary patterns. The advantages of the method over other methods described in the literature is that it is particularly suitable for the design of a programmable retina circuit where moment functions of different orders are obtained by simply loading the correct binary patterns into the memory devices implemented on the circuit. The moment values computed by the m…

Isotope Shifts of Radium Monofluoride Molecules

2021

Isotope shifts of $^{223-226,228}$Ra$^{19}$F were measured for different vibrational levels in the electronic transition $A^{2}{}{\Pi}_{1/2}\leftarrow X^{2}{}{\Sigma}^{+}$. The observed isotope shifts demonstrate the particularly high sensitivity of radium monofluoride to nuclear size effects, offering a stringent test of models describing the electronic density within the radium nucleus. Ab initio quantum chemical calculations are in excellent agreement with experimental observations. These results highlight some of the unique opportunities that short-lived molecules could offer in nuclear structure and in fundamental symmetry studies.

Tiempos felices: Transformaciones en las tecnologías psicológicas de gobierno de la subjetividad

2020

This paper traces some inflections in the psy disciplines? discourses and technologies for the government of subjectivity during the last decades. It is focused on exploring different mechanisms through which psychological disciplines ?their discourses, techniques and practices? penetrate social life and contribute to establishing subject models consistent with transformations in the political and economic rationalities of late capitalism. Drawing on previous research in the field of gender politics and happiness discourses in the pop psychological culture, I track a line with three moments: i) the production of psychological individuality and identity normalization; ii) the proliferation o…

Comparison between the Kummer's transformation and Ewald method for the evaluation of the parallel plate Green's functions

2006

In this paper, we present a convergence and efficiency study of two different acceleration techniques for the evaluation of the parallel plate Green's functions. The first technique is based on the extraction of the asymptotic terms of the spectral representation of the parallel plate Green's functions by applying the Kummer's transformation. The second technique is a straightforward reformulation of the 2-D Green's functions for 1-D periodic structures to the parallel plate case. The PPW Green's functions calculated by the two methods have been successfully applied to the analysis of a practical inductive microwave filter containing metallic and dielectric posts. The filter analysis techni…

Optimal “anti-Bayesian” parametric pattern classification using Order Statistics criteria

2012

Published version of a chapter in the book: Progress in Pattern Recognition, Image Analysis, Computer Vision, and Applications. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-33275-3_1 The gold standard for a classifier is the condition of optimality attained by the Bayesian classifier. Within a Bayesian paradigm, if we are allowed to compare the testing sample with only a single point in the feature space from each class, the optimal Bayesian strategy would be to achieve this based on the (Mahalanobis) distance from the corresponding means. The reader should observe that, in this context, the mean, in one sense, is the most central point in the respective distrib…
