Abstract Buffering compounds like TRIS are frequently used in chemical, biochemical and biomedical applications to control pH in solution. One of the prerequisites of a buffer compound, in addition to sufficient buffering capacity and pH stability over time, is its non-reactivity with other constituents of the solution. This is especially important in the field of analytical chemistry where analytes are to be determined quantitatively. Purification, isolation and characterization of a phosphoglycolate phosphatase isoenzyme from human erythrocytes.

Preparation, purification and characterization of a phosphoglycolate phosphatase (PGP) isoenzyme from human erythrocytes was achieved by DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B chromatography and isoelectric focusing using carrier ampholytes, pH 4-6. 2. The isoenzyme has an isoelectric point of 5.00 +/- 0.05 and could be purified 33,000 fold to a specific activity of 32.7 U/mg of protein. It represents the PGP phenotype 1 consisting of a single isoenzyme. 3. The enzyme is composed of two subunits (mol. wt 35,000) which are identical and not connected by SS-bridges. 4. The trail-following pheromone and sex pheromones were investigated in the Indomalayan termite Hodotermopsis sjoestedti belonging to the new family Archotermopsidae. Gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after solid phase microextraction (SPME) of the sternal gland secretion of pseudergates and trail-following bioassays demonstrated that the trailfollowing pheromone of H. sjoestedti was syn-4,6-dimethylundecan-1-ol, a new chemical structure for termite pheromones. Management Practices and Allocation of Employment: Evidence from Finnish Manufacturing

We analyse variation in the management practices across countries and across regions within a country. For cross-country comparisons we use the Finnish Management and Organizational Practices Survey (FMOP) to calculate a management score for Finnish manufacturing that is compared to corresponding measures obtained from similar data in the US and Germany. Scores measured by unweighted averages of the establishments in these countries show that Finland is only slightly behind the US and on par with those of Germany. Polyketides and nitrogenous metabolites from the endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. D15a2a

Abstract Three new polyketides, phomopones A−C (1–3), one new cyclic tetrapeptide, 18-hydroxydihydrotentoxin (4), and a new amide, 6-hydroxyenamidin (5) together with a known derivative, enamindin (6) were obtained from the endophytic fungus Phomopsis sp. D15a2a isolated from the plant Alternanthera bettzickiana. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by 1D, 2D NMR and HRMS data. The absolute configurations of the isolated metabolites were determined either by X-ray crystallography, Marfey’s method or by converting the compounds to Mosher esters.

Yeast isolates were obtained from the hindgut of the lower termites Mastotermis darwiniensis (Mastotermitidae), Zootermopsis angusticollis, Zootermopsis nevadensis (Hodotermitidae), Neotermes jouteli (Kalotermitidae), Reticulitermes santonensis, Heterotermes indicola (Rhinotermitidae) and the roach Cryptocercus punctulatus (Prillinger et al. 1996). The monosaccharide composition of the cell wall, the ubiquinone system, partial sequencing of 18S ribosomal DNA and the ultrastructure of septal pores indicate that most yeast species belonged to the Endomycetales. Bioaccesibility of Cylindrospermopsin from cooked fish muscle after the application of an in vitro digestion model and its bioavailability.

Humans can be exposed to cyanotoxins through the ingestion of contaminated water, food or beverages. In the present work, the bioaccesibility of Cylindrospermopsin (CYN), one of the most relevant cyanotoxins, was evaluated in a pure CYN solution and cooked CYN-contaminated fish muscles (20 μg/mL). An in vitro digestion model including the salivar, gastric, duodenal and colonic phases was performed, being each fraction analyzed by HPLC-MS-MS to evaluate CYN degradation.
