VALUTAZIONE CLINICA DELLA PROTEINA 22 DELLA MATRICE NUCLEARE COME MARCATORE TUMORALE NEL FOLLOW-UP DEI TUMORI A CELLULE TRANSIZIONALI DELLA VESCICA
2008
OBJECTIVES. Biomarkers (BTA, NMP22, FDP etc.) have been and continue to be evaluated as adjuncts or substitutes for cystoscopy, which is invasive and uncomfortable for some patients. Nuclear matrix protein-22 (NMP22) is involved in the regulation of nuclear processes. The main objective of the present study is to evaluate the clinical utility of urinary NMP22 as a tumor marker in the follow-up of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study included 62 patients undergoing follow-up, who had had TCC of bladder but who were disease-free at the beginning of the study, as confirmed by cystoscopy. Urine samples were collected for urinary cytology and NMP22 t…

Background: Degenerative forms of mitral valve diseases (MVDs) are complex pathologies. Thus, it is difficult to make generalizations about MVD pathways or genetic risk factors. However, a key role of metalloproteinases (MMPs) in their pathophysiology is emerging. Thus, we performed a study to assess eventual associations of some functional SNPs in MMP-2 and MMP-9 genes with MVD risk, symptom severity and short- and long-term (4.8 years) complications. Methods: For this purpose, 90 patients and two control groups were genotyped for MMP-2 and MMP-9 gene SNPs, and systemic levels of proatrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), and two enzymes were quantified and correlated to the MMP-2 and MMP-9 SNPs…
Integrated multi-omics investigations of metalloproteinases in colon cancer: Focus on MMP2 and MMP9
2021
Colorectal cancer (CRC) develops by genetic and epigenetic alterations. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying metastatic dissemination remain unclear and could benefit from multi-omics investigations of specific protein families. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are proteolytic enzymes involved in ECM remodeling and the processing of bioactive molecules. Increased MMP expression promotes the hallmarks of tumor progression, including angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis, and is correlated with a shortened survival. Nevertheless, the collective role and the possible coordination of MMP members in CRC are poorly investigated. Here, we performed a multi-omics analysis of MMP expression…
A G2(MP2) theoretical study of substituent effects on H3BNHnCl3−n (n= 3-0) donor-acceptor complexes
2008
Abstract The complexation energies of H3BNHnCl3−n (n= 3-0) complexes and the proton affinities of NHnCl3−n compounds have been computed at the G2(MP2) level of theory. G2(MP2) results show that the successive chlorine substitution on the ammonia decreases both the basicity of the NHnCl3−n ligands and the stability of H3BNHnCl3−n complexes. The findings are interpreted in terms of the rehybridisation of the nitrogen lone-pair orbital. The NBO partitioning scheme shows that the variation of the N-H and N-Cl bond lengths, upon complexation, is due to variation of “s” character in these bonds.
Propan-2-ol dehydration on H-ZSM-5 and H-Y zeolite: a DFT study
2012
The catalytic dehydration of propan-2-ol over H-Y and H-ZMS-5 aluminated zeolite models, mimicking both internal cavities and external surfaces, was studied by DFT calculations to investigate the reaction mechanism. After the adsorption of propan-2-ol on the zeolite, the dehydration mechanism starts with alcohol protonation, occurring by one acidic –OH group of the zeolite fragment, followed by a concerted β-elimination to give propene. The catalytic activity is affected by the size of the zeolite cavity, which is larger in the H-Y than in the H-ZMS-5 zeolite. The adsorption energy of the reagent, as an example, decreases in the order: H-Y cavity ≃ H-ZMS-5 surface > H-ZMS-5 cavity, pointing…

Vitamin A deficiency alters the structure and collagen IV composition of rat renal basement membranes.
2005
Retinoids can modulate the expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins with variable results depending on other contributing factors. Because changes in these proteins may alter the composition and impair the function of specialized ECM structures such as basement membranes (BMs), we studied the effects of vitamin A deficiency on renal BMs during the growing period. Newborn male rats were fed a vitamin A-deficient (VAD) diet for 50 d. The ultrastructure of renal BMs was analyzed by electron microscopy. Total collagen IV, the different alpha(IV) chains, matrix degrading metalloproteinases (MMP), and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) were quantified by immunocytochemistry a…
Urinary cytology and nuclear matrix protein 22 in the detection of bladder cancer recurrence other than transitional cell carcinoma
2008
OBJECTIVE: To assess the value of nuclear matrix protein-22 (NMP22), compared with urinary cytology, in predicting the recurrence of bladder cancer that is not transitional cell carcinoma (non-TCC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We tested the sensitivity, specificity and the predictive accuracy of NMP22 in the context of non-TCC bladder cancer recurrence, and compared it to the performance of urinary cytology. The study group comprised 2687 patients with history of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer from 10 centres across four continents. RESULTS: The mean patient age was 64.8 years and 75.4% were men; of all patients, 513 (19.1%) had positive urinary cytology, 906 (33.7%) had a positive NMP22 test…
FTIR matrix isolation and theoretical studies of glycolic acid dimers
2018
Glycolic acid (GA) dimers were studied in low temperature argon matrices by means of FTIR spectroscopy. Experimentally, the dimers were produced when monomeric glycolic acid molecules were thermally mobilized upon annealing of argon matrices at 25–35 K. The experimental spectra observed upon annealing indicate the presence of three different dimer structures. Computationally, MP2 and DFT calculations were used to study the potential dimer species in order to scrutinize the possible dimer structures, their energetics and their spectral features. Altogether 27 local minima were found for dimer structures for the three lowest conformers of glycolic acid considered based on previous studies on …
