Fatty Liver and Fibrosis in Glycine N-Methyltransferase Knockout Mice Is Prevented by Nicotinamide

2010

Deletion of glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT), the main gene involved in liver S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) catabolism, leads to the hepatic accumulation of this molecule and the development of fatty liver and fibrosis in mice. To demonstrate that the excess of hepatic SAM is the main agent contributing to liver disease in GNMT knockout (KO) mice, we treated 1.5-month-old GNMT-KO mice for 6 weeks with nicotinamide (NAM), a substrate of the enzyme NAM N-methyltransferase. NAM administration markedly reduced hepatic SAM content, prevented DNA hypermethylation, and normalized the expression of critical genes involved in fatty acid metabolism, oxidative stress, inflammation, cell proliferation, …

Reduced mRNA abundance of the main enzymes involved in methionine metabolism in human liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

2000

Abstract Background/Aims: It has been known for at least 50 years that alterations in methionine metabolism occur in human liver cirrhosis. However, the molecular basis of this alteration is not completely understood. In order to gain more insight into the mechanisms behind this condition, mRNA levels of methionine adenosyltransferase ( MAT1A ), glycine methyltransferase ( GNMT ), methionine synthase ( MS ), betaine homocysteine methyltransferase ( BHMT ) and cystathionine β-synthase ( CBS ) were examined in 26 cirrhotic livers, five hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and ten control livers. Methods: The expression of the above-mentioned genes was determined by quantitative RT-PCR analy…

Sieviete Livonijas 13.-16.gs. pilīs: arheoloģiskās liecības Latvijas teritorijā

2015

Maximum Torque per Ampere Control strategy for low-saliency ratio IPMSMs

2019

This paper deals with electrical drives employing low-saliency ratio interior permanent magnet synchronous motors. In particular, in order to help the designers choosing the best control algorithm, the performances of the Maximum Torque Per Ampere Control (MTPA) and the Field Orientation Control (FOC) are here both theoretically and experimentally assessed and compared, by using, as performance indicators, the torque-current ratio and the power losses. The tests are carried out on a low-power motor for various speeds and loads by implementing the two control strategies in a dSPACE® rapid prototyping system. The results show that the Maximum Torque Per Ampere algorithm has some appreciable a…

Modeling of low-noise microwave HEMTs for CAD-oriented applications

1993

The simultaneous determination of noise, gain and scattering parameters through a computer-driven noise figure measuring system allowed the rapid and accurate characterization of several samples of low noise HEMTs of the same family. From the measured parameters an equivalent circuit model representing the behavior of the typical device is extracted by means of a decomposition approach. Comparison between the model performance and the set of measured parameters of all devices are reported for the FHR 02FH (by Fujitsu). The modeling procedure is mainly oriented to the CAD of (M)MIC low noise wideband amplifiers. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Multi-lump solutions to the KPI equation with a zero degree of derivation

2022

We construct solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation (KPI) by using an extended Darboux transform. From elementary functions we give a method that provides different types of solutions in terms of wronskians of order N. For a given order, these solutions depend on the degree of summation and the degree of derivation of the generating functions. In this study, we restrict ourselves to the case where the degree of derivation is equal to 0. In this case, we obtain multi-lump solutions and we study the patterns of their modulus in the plane (x,y) and their evolution according time and parameters.

mTORC1 activation in B cells confers impairment of marginal zone microarchitecture by exaggerating cathepsin activity

2018

Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) is a key regulator of cell metabolism and lymphocyte proliferation. It is inhibited by the tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), a heterodimer of TSC1 and TSC2. Deletion of either gene results in robust activation of mTORC1. Mature B cells reside in the spleen at two major anatomical locations, the marginal zone (MZ) and follicles. The MZ constitutes the first line of humoral response against blood‐borne pathogens and undergoes atrophy in chronic inflammation. In previous work, we showed that mice deleted for TSC1 in their B cells (TSC1(BKO)) have almost no MZ B cells, whereas follicular B cells are minimally affected. To explore potential underl…
