Red propolis hydroalcoholic extract inhibits the formation of Candida albicans biofilms on denture surface

Background To evaluate the antifungal activity of the red propolis hydroalcoholic extract (RPHE) against Candida albicans biofilms. Material and Methods The minimum inhibitory and fungicidal concentrations (MIC and MFC) of the RPHE were determined by the microdilution technique. C. albicans biofilms were formed on the surface of resin specimens preconditioned with artificial saliva (1h). The specimens (N=48) were equally divided according to the four solutions used for anti-biofilm evaluation (n=12 per group). OBJECTIVE: The capacity of thymomas to generate mature CD4+ effector T cells from immature precursors inside the tumor and export them to the blood is associated with thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis (TAMG). Why TAMG(+) thymomas generate and export more mature CD4+ T cells than MG(-) thymomas is unknown. METHODS: Unfixed thymoma tissue, thymocytes derived thereof, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), T-cell subsets and B cells were analysed using qRT-PCR and western blotting. Survival of PBMCs was measured by MTT assay. FAS-mediated apoptosis in PBMCs was quantified by flow cytometry. Objective Elevated insulin and inflammatory cytokine levels in obesity may chronically activate signaling pathways regulating cardiac growth and contractility. Our aim was to examine the effect of obesity on cardiac PI3K isoform and Akt activation during left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy and heart failure. Methods Wild-type mice were fed normal chow or high-fat diet (HFD) for 2, 4, or 6 months. A subset of mice was subjected to chronic myocardial ischemia (MI). In particular, we analyzed: (1) the psychometric properties of the scale in each of the three subsamples; (2) the relations between sex, age, verbal ability, and EK, in the overall sample and in the three different cultures; (3) the pattern of acquisition of the various dimensions of emotion knowledge in the overall sample and in the three different countries. Fatigue Monitoring Tool for Airline Operators (FMT)

Abstract A Fatigue Monitoring Tool (FMT) model was constructed for an operational airline in order to manage the fatigue levels of their crews in accordance with Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) practices. This article describes the implementation of the Fatigue Monitoring Tool model and the airline’s aims to put the recent scientific findings on aviation fatigue into practical use. The model consists of proxy points allotted to various duties and rest periods.

Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) and N-haloimides form two types of short (imide)X···N and X–X···N (X = Br, I) halogen bonds. Nucleophilic substitution or ligand-exchange reaction on the peripheral X of X–X···N with the chloride of N-chlorosuccinimide lead to Cl–X···N halogen-bonded complexes. The 1:1 complexation of HMTA and ICl manifests the shortest I···N halogen bond [2.272(5) Å] yet reported for an HMTA acceptor.
