Oral administration of camptothecin (Cm) derivatives and other antitumoral agents is being actively developed in order to improve the quality of life of patients with cancer. Though several lipophilic derivatives of CPT have shown interesting oral bioavailability in preclinical and clinical studies, only Topotecan has been approved for this route of administration. B-mode versus A-mode ultrasonographic measurements of mucosal thickness in vivo

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the measurement accuracy of A-mode and B-mode ultrasonographic assessments of palatal masticatory mucosal thickness in vivo. Study Design: Thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa in the molar region of 50 volunteers was measured once with a B-mode ultrasound device (10 MHz) combined with a standoff for intraoral applications. At identical reading points thickness was also assessed with an A-mode device (5 replicates) and by needle probing for determination of true thickness. Sinusitis in Thyroid Associated Ophthalmopathy

In 19 patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy undergoing orbital decompression, histologic examination of paranasal sinus mucosa revealed moderate to severe inflammatory alterations in all patients. Only 2/19 patients had a history of chronic sinusitis. In 4/19 patients, mucosal abnormalities of the paranasal sinuses were found on preoperative computed tomography CT scans. Postoperatively, 10/19 patients developed purulent sinusitis. Htid-1, the human counterpart of the Drosophila tumor suppressor gene lethal(2)tumorous imaginal discs (l(2)tid) encodes three splice forms translated into three cytosolic - Tid50, Tid48 and Tid46 - and three mitochondrial - Tid43, Tid40 and Tid38 - proteins. Here we provide evidence for the association of the endogenous Tid50/Tid48 proteins with the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) tumor suppressor in normal colon epithelium, colorectal cancer cells and mouse NIH3T3 fibroblasts.
