Abstract The effects of sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) at different concentrations on the “in vitro” percutaneous absorption of a number of compounds (5-fluorouracil, antipyrine, pentoxifylline, salicylamide, 4-ethylaniline, 4-n-butylaniline and indomethacin) with a wide range of lipophilicity values (log POCT from −0.95 to 4.42) through rat skin were analysed. Abstract The effects of guanfacine have been studied on guinea-pig isolated atria and diethylstilboestrol-treated rat isolated uterus to determine whether it possesses histamine-like activity. Guanfacine produced a concentration-dependent negative chronotropic effect which was not modified by ranitidine (0.1 μM). In rat isolated uterus contracted by KCl, clonidine (5–5000 μM) produced concentration-dependent relaxation which was blocked by ranitidine (0.1 μM), but guanfacine only produced relaxation at high concentrations (100–1000 μM), and this was not affected by ranitidine (0.1 μM). Abstract: The scope of the Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) of internal trifluoromethyl alkynes, previously described with norbornadiene, is expanded to norbornene and ethylene. A thorough structural analysis of the resulting PK adducts has been carried out to unveil that α-trifluoromethylcyclopentenones are preferred in all cases, independently of the electronic properties of the alkyne. The regioselectivity observed with norbornadiene and ethylene is higher than in the case of norbornene.
Optical studies on interaction of biliary contrast agents with native and modified human serum albumin.

The interaction of two homologous series of biliary contrast agents with native human and bovine serum albumin and with modified human serum albumin was investigated using circular dichroism and equilibrium dialysis. For most derivatives, extrinsic Cotton effects were observed for the interaction with both albumins. In some cases, these effects were strongly affected by only small changes in the chemical structure of the drugs. These large differences in extrinsic Cotton effects can be explained by definite effects of the chemical structures on the binding site selectivity of some drugs. Abstract The interaction of dipyridamole with α1-acid glycoprotein was investigated by circular dichroism and ultraviolet absorbance measurements as well as by equilibrium dialysis experiments. Dipyridamole is bound to the protein via one site of extremely high affinity and by at least one site of considerably lower affinity. Only the association of dipyridamole with the high affinity site produces typical extrinsic Cotton effects. As a result of experimental observations it is concluded that the high affinity site is located in a hydrophobic protein structure of the glycoprotein.

The marine-derived fungus Talaromyces rugulosus isolated from the Mediterranean sponge Axinella cannabina and cultured on solid rice medium yielded seventeen lactone derivatives including five butenolides (1–5), seven (3S)-resorcylide derivatives (6–12), two butenolide-resorcylide dimers (13 and 14), and three dihydroisocoumarins (15–17). Among them, fourteen compounds (1–3, 6–16) are new natural products. AbstractA new cyclic pentapeptide, cotteslosin C (1), a new aflaquinolone, 22-epi-aflaquinolone B (3), and two new anthraquinones (9 and 10), along with thirty known compounds (2, 4 – 8, 11 – 34) were isolated from a co-culture of the sponge-associated fungus Aspergillus versicolor with Bacillus subtilis. The new metabolites were only detected in the co-culture extract, but not when the fungus was grown under axenic conditions. Here, we evaluated the effect of the polyphenols extracted from apple peels, normally disposed of as waste, on the amyloid aggregation process of ?-casein from bovine milk, a well-used amyloidogenic model system.
