A computational study of some electric and magnetic properties of gaseous BF3 and BCl3

We present the results of an extended computational study of the electric and magnetic properties connected to Cotton-Mouton birefringences, on the trifluoro- and trichloroborides in the gas phase. The electric dipole polarizabilities, magnetizabilities, quadrupole moments, and higher-order hypersusceptibilities—expressed as quadratic and cubic frequency-dependent response functions—are computed within Hartree-Fock, density-functional, and coupled-cluster response theories employing singly and doubly augmented correlation-consistent basis sets and London orbitals in the magnetic property calculations. Variable-temperature X-ray crystal structure determinations (80–330 K) on compounds {Fe[tren(6-Mepy)3]}(ClO4)2(1-Fe) {tren(6-Mepy)3is tris[3-aza-4-(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)but-3-enyl]amine} and {Zn[tren(6-Mepy)3]}(ClO4)2(1-Zn) {tren(6-Mepy)3is tris[3-aza-4-(6-methyl-2-pyridyl)but-3-enyl]amine} were carried out together with a detailed analysis of the unit-cell volume and parameters in the spin transition region for (1-Fe). Both compounds crystallize in the monoclinic system and retained the space groupP21/cat all measured temperatures. The Fe and Zn atoms are surrounded by six N atoms belonging to imine groups and pyridine groups of the trifurcated ligand, adopting a pseudo-octahedral symmetry. …

Synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of the complex [ReCl3(tppz)]·MeCN

The reaction of the starting materials [ReIIICl3(MeCN)(PPh3)2] or [ReVOCl3(PPh3)2] with 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (tppz) in acetonitrile yielded the Re(III) complex [ReCl3(tppz)]·MeCN (1). This complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n and its crystal structure consists of neutral mononuclear entities with meridional geometry of the chloride ligands, and the six-coordination of the Re(III) ion being completed by the tridentate tppz ligand. Each metal centre exhibits a highly distorted octahedral coordination with Re–Cl and Re–Ntppz bond lengths covering the ranges 2.3590(9)–2.3606(8) and 1.971(2)–2.096(2) A, respectively. Abstract Three new Keggin polyoxometalate (POM)-based compounds linked to 3d metal complexes have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions: [Cu(phen)2]2{[Cu(phen)]2 [SiMo12O40(VO)2]} (1), {[Zn(phen)2]2[GeMo12O40(VO)2]}{[Zn(phen)2(H2O)]2 [GeMo12O40(VO)2]}·3H2O (2) and {[Co(phen)2]2[PMo12O40(VO)2]}{[Co(phen)2(OH)]2 [PMo12O40(VO)2]}·2.5H2O (3) (phen=1,10-phenanthroline). Some factors affecting an increase in magnetic susceptibility of cement dusts

The aim of the research was to explain reasons of fluctuation in magnetic susceptibility of cement dusts and the consequences for the environment. The research comprised measurements of magnetic susceptibility and Fe content in dusts, and also in raw materials, additives, fuels, mixtures and clinkers used for cement production. The samples were taken in four cement plants located in Opole Province (southern Poland). In addition to this, the influence of two production methods (dry and wet) on magnetic susceptibility of dusts and some aspects of ferrimagnetic minerals formation in the process of clinker burning were considered. Ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chain; influence of a random exchange interaction

We report on the magnetic behavior of ‘‘rigid’’ ferrimagnetic chains isolated in bimetallic complexes of the EDTA and ‘‘flexible’’ ones obtained in the amorphous variety. As shown by LAXS, the only noteworthy difference in the amorphous state is the random distribution of bond angles between nearest neighbors within chains. The ‘‘rigid’’ bimetallic chains in CoNi(EDTA)6H2O are described in terms of Heisenberg model with an exchange coupling J=−7.5 K. The behavior of the amorphous variety somewhat differs, following the law X=AT−0.8 typical of REHAC. Chemical Reaction Monitoring Using Zero-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Enables Study of Heterogeneous Samples in Metal Containers

Abstract We demonstrate that heterogeneous/biphasic chemical reactions can be monitored with high spectroscopic resolution using zero‐field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This is possible because magnetic susceptibility broadening is negligible at ultralow magnetic fields. We show the two‐step hydrogenation of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate with para‐enriched hydrogen gas in conventional glass NMR tubes, as well as in a titanium tube. The low frequency zero‐field NMR signals ensure that there is no significant signal attenuation arising from shielding by the electrically conductive sample container. Evidences for the Formation of Chromium in the Unusual Oxidation State Cr(IV)

Abstract Magnetic measurements on Tl x Cr 5 Se 8 (0≤ x ≤1) reveal that stoichiometric TlCr 5 Se 8 is a three-dimensional antiferromagnet with a Neel temperature T N of about 55 K. In contrast, samples with a reduced Tl content show highly unusual magnetic properties that are without precedent in the literature of magnetically coupled systems: upon lowering the temperature from 300 K the susceptibility reaches a maximum at about 125 K and then steeply drops to a value comparable to that obtained at room temperature.
