Polymeric Nanocarriers for Magnetic Targeted Drug Delivery: Preparation, Characterization, and in Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation

2013

In this paper the preparation of magnetic nano- carriers (MNCs), containing superparamagnetic domains, is reported, useful as potential magnetically targeted drug delivery systems. The preparation of MNCs was performed by using the PHEA-IB-p(BMA) graft copolymer as coating material through the homogenization−solvent evaporation method. Magnetic and nonmagnetic nanocarriers containing flutamide (FLU-MNCs) were prepared. The prepared nanocarriers have been exhaustively characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and magnetic measurements. Biological evaluation was performed by in vitro cytotoxicity and cell uptake tests and in vivo biodistribution …

Isomorphous replacement of MII ions in MII–GdIII dimers (MII = CuII, MnII, NiII, CoII, ZnII): magnetic studies of the products

2011

Complexes [M(II)Gd(III){pyCO(OEt)pyC(OH)(OEt)py}₃](ClO₄)₂·EtOH [M(II) = Cu(II) (1), Mn(II) (2), Ni(II) (3), Co(II) (4) and Zn(II) (5)] crystallize in the monoclinic Cc space group and contain one hexacoordinate M(II) ion and one enneacoordinate Gd(III) ion, bridged by three {pyCO(OEt)pyC(OH)(OEt)py}⁻ ligands. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate a ferromagnetic interaction for 1 and antiferromagnetic interactions for 2-4. Using the Ĥ = -JŜ(Gd(III))Ŝ(M(II)) spin Hamiltonian formalism, fits to the magnetic susceptibility data yielded J values of +0.32 cm⁻¹ for 1, -1.7 cm⁻¹ for 2, and -0.22 cm⁻¹ for 3. In complex 4, the orbital contributions of Co(II) precluded the determination of th…

Search for magnetic minerals in Martian rocks: Overview of the Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) magnet investigation on Spirit and Opportunity

2008

[1] The Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) on board the Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) is a grinding tool designed to remove dust coatings and/or weathering rinds from rocks and expose fresh rock material. Four magnets of different strengths that are built into the structure of the RAT have been attracting substantial amounts of magnetic material during RAT activities from rocks throughout both rover missions. The RAT magnet experiment as performed on Spirit demonstrates the presence of a strongly ferrimagnetic phase in Gusev crater rocks, which based on Mossbauer and visible/near-infrared reflectance spectra is interpreted as magnetite. The amount of abraded rock material adhering to the magnets vari…

Light-Induced Formation of Pb3+Paramagnetic Species in Lead Halide Perovskites

2018

Hybrid halide perovskites are soft materials processed at room temperature, revolutionary players in the photovoltaic field. Nowadays, investigation of the nature and role of defects is seen as one of the key challenges toward full comprehension of their behavior and achievement of high device stability under working conditions. We reveal the reversible generation, under illumination, of paramagnetic Pb3+ defects in CH3NH3PbI3, synthesized in ambient conditions, induced by the presence of Pb-O defects in the perovskite structure that may trap photogenerated holes, possibly mediated by the concomitant oxidation and migration of ions. According to the mechanism that we hypothesize, one charge…

Solvent-induced single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation and tunable magnetic properties of 1D azido-Cu(ii) chains with a carboxylate bridge

2019

By means of the solvent effect, three new azido-copper 1D coordination polymers, [Cu(4-aba)(N3)] (1), [Cu(4-aba)(N3)(CH3OH)] (2), and [Cu(4-aba)(N3)(C2H5OH)] (3) (4-aba = 4-azidobenzoic acid), were successfully prepared in the presence of Cu2+ ion, NaN3 and 4-azidobenzoic acid. Interestingly, 1 can be employed as a precursor and transformed to 2 and 3via the coordination of methanol or ethanol, respectively. Meanwhile, the identical products of 1, namely 1a and 1b, could be obtained from both 2 and 3 by a dealcoholized process. As a result, the geometric configurations of Cu(II) ions vary from the tetracoordinated square-planar in 1 to the hexacoordinated octahedron in 2 or 3. Compound 1 di…

Synthesis and characterisation of a novel ferrimagnetic chain based on copper(II) and rhenium(IV)

2019

Abstract A novel one-dimensional copper(II)–rhenium(IV) coordination polymer of formula {[ReIVBr4(μ-ox)CuII(pyim)2]·MeCN}n (1) [ox = oxalate anion, pyim = 2-(2′-pyridyl)imidazole] has been prepared and characterised. Powder X-ray diffraction measurements on a sample of 1 support the purity of the bulk sample, whereas single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1 crystallises in the orthorhombic system with space group Pbca. The crystal structure of 1 is made up of [CuII(pyim)2]2+ cations and [ReBr4(ox)]2− anions linked through bridging bromide and oxalate groups, which generate alternating CuII and ReIV chains. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements performed on 1 reveal …

Synthesis, crystal structures, magnetic properties, and lattice dynamics of Ba2XCu(OH)[V2O7] with X=Cl, Br

2016

Abstract We have synthesized Ba2XCu(OH)[V2O7] with X=Cl, Br by hydrothermal methods. The isotypic structures (Pnma, Z=4, a≈15.1 A, b≈6.1 A, c≈9.6 A) contain distorted hexagonal layers of Ba and X in a BN-type arrangement. Each halide is further coordinated by one out-of plane Ba atom in an alternate up-down fashion resulting in an overall Ba 2 X 3 + ∞ 2 structural feature. The planar Ba–X hexagonal rings are centered by divanadate groups in an eclipsed orientation. Edge-sharing chains of CuO 2/2 (OH) 2/2 O 2/1 5 - ∞ 1  complement the structure. The magnetic properties are associated with the magnetic Cu2+ ions and can be described as an antiferromagnetic quasi 1D S=1/2 Heisenberg system. Co…

Pre- and post-synthetic modulation of the ordering temperatures in a family of anilato-based magnets

2019

We report the synthesis and characterization of six novel heterometallic molecule-based 2D magnets with the bromanilato ligand (C6O4Br22− = 1,3-dibromo-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone dianion) and six different benzene derivative molecules. The compounds, formulated as (NBu4)[MnCr(C6O4Br2)3]·1.75C6H5Br (1), (NBu4)[MnCr(C6O4Br2)3]·C6H5X with X = Cl (2), I (3) and CH3 (4) and (NBu4)[MnCr(C6O4Br2)3]·2C6H5X with X = CN (5) and NO2 (6), present the classical hexagonal honeycomb-(6,3) lattice with alternating Mn(II) and Cr(III) ions. The layers are packed in an eclipsed way along the a direction giving rise to hexagonal channels where the benzene derivative molecules are located with π–π interacti…

Insertion of single-ion magnets based on mononuclear Co(II) complexes into ferromagnetic oxalate-based networks

2021

The 1 : 2 and 1 : 1 Co(ii) complexes of the L ligand (L = 6-(3,5-diamino-2,4,6-triazinyl)2,2'-bipyridine) with formulas [CoII(L)2](ClO4)2·0.5MeCN·Et2O (1) and [CoII(L)(CH3CN)2(H2O)](ClO4)2·MeCN (2) have been prepared. The structural and magnetic characterization of the two compounds shows that they contain octahedral high-spin Co(ii) and present a field-induced slow relaxation of the magnetization. 1 has been inserted into a bimetallic oxalate-based network leading to a novel achiral 3D compound of formula [CoII(L)2][MnIICrIII(ox)3]2·(solvate) (3) exhibiting ferromagnetic ordering below 4.6 K. EPR measurements suggest a weak magnetic coupling between the two sublattices.
