Controlled time integration for the numerical simulation of meteor radar reflections

2016

We model meteoroids entering the Earth[U+05F3]s atmosphere as objects surrounded by non-magnetized plasma, and consider efficient numerical simulation of radar reflections from meteors in the time domain. Instead of the widely used finite difference time domain method (FDTD), we use more generalized finite differences by applying the discrete exterior calculus (DEC) and non-uniform leapfrog-style time discretization. The computational domain is presented by convex polyhedral elements. The convergence of the time integration is accelerated by the exact controllability method. The numerical experiments show that our code is efficiently parallelized. The DEC approach is compared to the volume …

Observation of Poincaré-Andronov-Hopf Bifurcation in Cyclotron Maser Emission from a Magnetic Plasma Trap

2018

We report the first experimental evidence of a controlled transition from the generation of periodic bursts of electromagnetic radiation into the continuous-wave regime of a cyclotron maser formed in magnetically confined nonequilibrium plasma. The kinetic cyclotron instability of the extraordinary wave of weakly inhomogeneous magnetized plasma is driven by the anisotropic electron population resulting from electron cyclotron plasma heating in a MHD-stable minimum-B open magnetic trap. peerReviewed

Analysis of a strip loop antenna located on the surface of an open cylindrical waveguide filled with a resonant magnetoplasma

2013

The electrodynamic characteristics of a circular loop antenna located on the surface of an open waveguide in the form of an axially magnetized plasma column are studied using the integral equation method. The current distribution and the input impedance of the antenna excited by a time-harmonic external voltage are obtained in closed form for the case where the plasma inside the column is resonant.

Electrodynamic Characteristics of a Strip Antenna Located on a Plane Interface of a Resonant Magnetoplasma and an Isotropic Medium

2015

We study the electrodynamic characteristics of an antenna having the form of an infinitesimally thin, perfectly conducting narrow strip located on a plane interface of a resonant magnetoplasma and an isotropic medium. The antenna is perpendicular to an external magnetic field and is excited by a given voltage. Singular integral equations for the antenna current, on the basis of which the current distribution is found in the case of an infinitely long radiator, are obtained. The limits of applicability of an approximate method based on the transmission line theory for determining the current distribution and input impedance of the antenna are established. Within the framework of this method,…
