Search for a Dark Leptophilic Scalar in e(+) e(-) Collisions

2020

Many scenarios of physics beyond the standard model predict the existence of new gauge singlets, which might be substantially lighter than the weak scale. The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. At an e+e- collider, such a leptophilic scalar (φL) would be produced predominantly through radiation from a τ lepton. We report herein a search for e+e-→τ+τ-φL, φL→ℓ+ℓ- (ℓ=e, μ) using data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. No significant signal is observed, and we set limits on the φL coupling to leptons in the range 0.04<mφL<7.0 GeV. These bounds s…

Cerebral plasmogens and aldehydes in senescence-accelerated mice P8 and R1 : Acomparison between weaned, adult and aged mice

2006

International audience; In contrast with senescence-accelerated mice R1, SAM P8 show abnormal aging characteristics. Changes occurring during aging could be mainly caused by free radical reactions. The brain is a plasmalogen-rich tissue. These particular phospholipids may act as endogenous antioxidants, be oxidized and release long chain aldehydes and α-hydroxyaldehydes during oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to examine by GC/MS the age- and strain-related levels of plasmalogens, aldehydes and α-hydroxyaldehydes in brain homogenates of SAM P8 and R1 at weaning, 5 months and 9 months of age in order to better understand the differences between both strains. In SAM R1, the evolutio…

Synthesis, Structural Analysis, Fiber Formation and Preliminary Anticancer Characterization of the Organotin Polyether from Dibutyltin Dichloride and…

2012

The organotin polyether derived from reaction of dibutyltin dichloride and 2,5-dimethyl-3-hexyne-2,5-diol was rapidly synthesized employing classical interfacial polymerization in 65% yield and a chain length of 360 units. IR results are consistent with the polyether structure. Bands characteristic of the formation of the Sn-O are present and bands characteristic of the Sn-Cl are absent. F MALDI MS results in the low mass range gives ion fragment clusters to five units. Isotopic abundance matches for tin are consistent with its presence in these ion fragment clusters. In the high mass range ion fragment clusters to greater than 300 units are found. The products offer outstanding inhibition …

Acid sensitivity of neomycin-resistant mutants ofOenococcus oeni: a relationship between reduction of ATPase activity and lack of malolactic activity

1999

Mutants of Oenococcus oeni were isolated as spontaneous neomycin-resistant mutants. Three of these mutants harbored a significantly reduced ATPase activity that represented 50% of that of the wild-type strain. Their growth rates were also impaired at pH 5.3 (46-86% of the wild-type level). However, the profiles of sugar consumption appeared identical to those of the parental strain. At pH 3.2, all the mutant strains failed to grow and a drastic decrease in viability was observed after an acid shock. Surprisingly, all the isolated mutants were devoid of malolactic activity. These results suggest that the ATPase and malolactic activities of O. oeni are linked to each other and play a crucial …

Size discrepancy of apical bases and treatment success in angle Class III malocclusion.

2001

The aim of this retrospective clinical study was to measure the apical bases and determine their size relationship in Class III malocclusion cases before and after orthodontic treatment, in order to evaluate their significance for the treatment success. Maxillary and mandibular apical bases were measured on study models of 104 Class III cases treated by conventional orthodontics, using a specifically constructed conveyance apparatus, and related to each other as an index. Treatment success was quantitatively assessed as the percentage change of PAR scores obtained from the pretreatment and posttreatment study models. Statistically significant relationships were disclosed between the measure…

Mandibular incisor extraction: indications and long-term evaluation

1996

The extraction of a lower incisor constitutes a therapeutic alternative limited to certain occlusal situations, i.e. supernumerary incisors, tooth size anomalies (peg-shaped upper laterals), ectopic eruption and anterior crossbites. The effect of the extraction of a single incisor on the out of retention alignment of lower anterior teeth was studied in 26 treated cases. Initial (T1), final (T2) and 5-8 years out of retention (T3) dental casts were measured. Mean crowding at the start of treatment (T1 = 3.86 mm) relapsed out of retention (T3 = 1.49 mm), with a net mean improvement of 2.37 mm. Little's irregularity index at the start of treatment (T1 = 6.44) relapsed out of retention (T3 = 2.…

The impact of orthognathic surgery on quality of life in individuals with oral clefts

2021

Summary Background/objectives To evaluate the relationships between individual, environmental, clinical factors and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) following orthognathic surgery. Materials and methods A follow-up study was conducted involving 69 adults with unilateral and bilateral CLP under orthodontic treatment. Interviews and oral examinations were conducted prior to orthognathic surgery (T0) to evaluate age, gender, psychological well-being, dental caries, malocclusion, social support, social networks, family income and education and OHRQoL. All participants were reviewed after 6 months (T1) to re-assess psychological well-being,…

Effects of sorbinicate and nicotinic acid on blood viscosity, red cell deformation and platelet function

1982

Summary Nicotinic acid (NA) and a retard derivative, sorbinicate, were investigated for their effects on blood rheology and platelet function, after oral administration, in two groups of patients with lower limb atherosclerosis obliterans — the second group having diabetes also. Red cell deformation and blood plasma viscosity were studied in the nondiabetic group (single dose of NA, 100 mg, and sorbinicate, 400 mg); release of platelet malondialdehyde (MDA) (single dose of NA, 100 mg, and sorbinicate, 800 mg), and the platelet regeneration time (before and after sorbinicate 400 mg × 3/die for 7 days) were studied in the diabetic group. Both drugs induced a significant improvement in red cel…

Impairment of antioxidant enzymes, lipid peroxidation and 8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine in advanced epithelial ovarian carcinoma of a Spanish community.

2006

In the present study, we describe the changes of antioxidant enzyme activities and other oxidative stress-related parameters in a mediterranean cohort of women affected with epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). For that purpose, the most representative enzymatic activities, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and the oxidized/reduced glutathione (GSSG/GSH) ratio have been analyzed in tumor tissue biopsies and compared with the normal tissue of the same patient. As oxidation products, the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) as an indication of lipid peroxidation, and the DNA damaged base 8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG) have been also measured. Ad…
