Solid sampling Fourier transform infrared determination of Mancozeb in pesticide formulations
2004
Abstract A series of approaches have been assayed for FTIR determination of Mancozeb in several solid commercial fungicides using different calibration strategies. The simplest procedure was based on the use of the ratio between the absorbance of a characteristic band of Mancozeb and that of a KSCN internal standard measured in the FTIR spectra obtained from KBr pellets. It was employed the quotient between peak height absorbance values at 1525 cm−1 for Mancozeb and 2070 cm−1 for KSCN. In these conditions a precision as relative standard deviation (RSD) of 0.6% and a relative accuracy error of 0.8% (w/w) were found. For complex formulations, containing other compounds with characteristic ab…
Direct determination of Mancozeb by photoacoustic spectrometry
2006
Abstract A solvent free, fast and environmentally friendly photoacoustic-infrared-based methodology (PAS-FTIR) was developed for the determination of Mancozeb in agrochemicals. This methodology was based on the direct measurement of the transmittance spectra of solid samples and a multivariate calibration model to determine the active ingredient concentration. The proposed partial least squares (PLS) model was made using nine standards prepared by mixing different amounts of kaolin and Mancozeb, with concentrations between 5.43 and 88.10% (w/w). A hierarchical cluster analysis was made in order to classify the samples in terms of similarity in the PAS-FTIR spectra. From their spectra differ…

Impact of non-selective fungicides on the growth and production of ochratoxin A byAspergillus ochraceusandA. carbonariusin barley-based medium
2010
The aim of this study was to assess the influence of the non-selective fungicides mancozeb, copper oxychloride, and sulfur on the growth and capability for producing ochratoxin A (OTA) of ochratoxigenic isolates of Aspergillus carbonarius and A. ochraceus in barley-based medium. Lag phases and growth rates were determined for each fungicide at different doses, at 15°C and 25°C and at 0.97 a(w). Mancozeb at 40 mg l(-1 )inhibited fungal growth and provided lag phases24 days at 10-20 mg l(-1) and 15°C. OTA was observed only at 25°C and doses10 mg l(-1). At 15°C, copper oxychloride proved inhibitory at 800 mg l(-1), while at 25°C growth was not delayed and only high doses decreased OTA levels. …
Effects of Mancozeb and Metribuzin on in vitro proliferative responses and oxidative stress of human and rat spleen lymphocytes stimulated by mitogens
2011
Pesticides have been shown to possess marked immunotropic activity. The aim of this work was to study the in vitro effects of different concentrations (1-100 µM) of Mancozeb (fungicide) and Metribuzin (herbicide), on the proliferative responses of human and rat spleen lymphocytes stimulated by concanavalin A (ConA, mitogen), the Th1- (IL-2, INFγ) and Th2- (IL-4) cytokine secretion and on the intracellular oxidative status. The results showed that Mancozeb significantly reduced ConA lymphocyte proliferation in a dose-dependent manner in both humans and rats. It also decreased IL-2, INFγ and IL-4 secretion with a a shift away to Th1 phenotype. Metribuzin at low concentrations (1-10 µM) result…
Micro-determination of dithiocarbamates in pesticide formulations using voltammetry
2013
Abstract The purpose of this work was to develop a reliable method for the micro-determination of dithiocarbamates (mancozeb, maneb, propineb, nabam, Na(CH3)2DTC, zineb, ziram, ferbam and thiram) in pesticide formulations for agriculture using adsorptive stripping voltammetry (AdSV). The accuracy of analytical method was valued by analyzing simulate formulation samples prepared by us with known amounts of active ingredients. In addition, the applicability of the AdSV procedure for the analysis of DTCs and EBDTCs in micro-samples was evaluated by estimating its recoveries from spiked commercial formulate samples. The accuracy, valuated as recovery percentage ranged between 85% and 97%. The p…
