Novel phase transitions in B-site doped manganites
2005
We have examined the infrared reflectivity and the electrical resistivity of La 1-x [Sr(Ba)] x Mn 1-z [Cu(Zn)] z O 3 samples in ferromagnetic metallic and insulator regime. Several phase transitions are observed, the most obvious being the transition from a ferromagnetic metallic to a ferromagnetic insulator phase that is related to the formation of short-range orbitally ordered domains. The temperature T 1 of the phase transition is dependent on doping concentration and for optimally doped samples (∼32% of Mn 4+ ions) we have found T 1 0.93 T C .
Influence on the phase transitions of barium titanate of the manganese valency, introduced as a substituant in the titanium site
1991
Abstract A small amount of manganese introduced in BaTiO3 modifies strongly the vibrational and electronic properties of the pure compound. Dielectric response and EPR measurements are reported in order to study the influence of the manganese valency on the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition.
Magnetotransport Properties of Thin Films of Magnetic Perovskites
2007
In this article we show magnetotransport of two prototypical (nearly) half metallic perowskites La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 and Sr2FeMoO6. In a half metal the spin polarisation at the Fermi energy is complete and tunneling magnetoresistive devices of high sensitivity can be realized with small external magnetic fields. In the vicinity of the metal-insulator phase transition (MIT) temperature of the manganite an external magnetic field can induce ’colossal’ magnetoresistive effects. In the simple perovskites La1-x Ca x MnO3 the charge transport above the MIT is of polaronic nature. Hall-effect measurements on the compound La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 below the MIT show a compensated Fermi-surface consisting of elect…

Self-assembled monolayers based spintronics: from ferromagnetic surface functionalization to spin-dependent transport.
2016
Chemically functionalized surfaces are studied for a wide range of applications going from medicine to electronics. Whereas non-magnetic surfaces have been widely studied, functionalization of magnetic surfaces is much less common and has almost never been used for spintronics applications. In this article we present the functionalization of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3, a ferromagnetic oxide, with self-assembled monolayers for spintronics. La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 is the prototypical half-metallic manganite used in spintronics studies. First, we show that La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 can be functionalized by alkylphosphonic acid molecules. We then emphasize the use of these functionalized surfaces in spintronics devices such a…

Inhomogeneous-strain-induced magnetic vortex cluster in one-dimensional manganite wire
2020
Abstract Mixed-valance manganites with strong electron correlation exhibit strong potential for spintronics, where emergent magnetic behaviors, such as propagation of high-frequency spin waves and giant topological Hall Effects can be driven by their mesoscale spin textures. Here, we create magnetic vortex clusters with flux closure spin configurations in single-crystal La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 wire. A distinctive transformation from out-of-plane domains to a vortex state is directly visualized using magnetic force microscopy at 4 K in wires when the width is below 1.0 μm. The phase-field modeling indicates that the inhomogeneous strain, accompanying with shape anisotropy, plays a key role for stab…
Surveying the N=40 island of inversion with new manganese masses
2012
High-precision mass measurements of neutron-rich 57−66Mn and 61−63Fe isotopes are reported. The new mass surface shows no shell closure at N=40. In contrast, there is an increase of the two-neutron separation energy at N=38. This behavior is consistent with the onset of collectivity due to the occupation of intruder states from higher orbits, in analogy with the well known “island of inversion” around N=20. Our results indicate that the neutron-rich Mn isotopes, starting from 63Mn, are most likely within the new island of inversion. From the new mass surface, we evaluate the empirical proton-neutron interaction and the pairing gap, both playing a significant role in the structural changes i…
Radiation defects and transition ions interaction in magnesium oxide
2007
Abstract The absorption spectra of nickel and manganese doped and pure MgO single crystals were investigated before and after fast neutron irradiation and after annealing. It is shown that the fast neutron irradiation leads to the formation of two types complex center: “Me 2+ –F + (or F) center” and “Me 3+ –V Mg ”. From the behavior of the ∼570 and ∼357 nm absorption bands during annealing the activation energies of the corresponding defects are determined. The obtained activation energy values ( E a
Electron–phonon interaction in a thin Al–Mn film
2006
Abstract Aluminum doped with manganese is an interesting novel material with applications in normal metal–insulator–superconductor (NIS) tunnel junction devices and transition-edge sensors at sub-Kelvin temperatures. We have studied the electron–phonon (e–p) coupling in a thin aluminum film doped with 1% manganese, with a measuring technique based on DC hot-electron effect. The electron temperature was measured with the help of symmetric normal metal–insulator–superconductor tunnel-junction pairs (SINIS-thermometers). Measurements show that the temperature dependence of the e–p interaction is not consistent with existing theories for disordered metals, but follows a higher power law.
