The significance of serum soluble IL-2 receptor as a marker for active visceral leishmaniasis in Sicilian patients

SUMMARY Sera from nine Sicilian patients with confirmed visceral leishmaniasis (Leishmania donovani infantum; VL), at the moment of the diagnosis, during the course of the disease and after clinical recovery, were analysed for the concentration of soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R). The results show that sIL-2R is a marker of disease activity, since it is in high concentration at the beginning of infection and returns to the normal range following successful chemotherapy. We live in a period which is inseparably linked to new forms of electronic communication. The Internet provides its users with newforms of communication including messaging, discussions, and chats. It appears that the written language used in email messages, forums, blogs and chat sessions differs from standard written language. The Computer becomes a tool, a sort of mediator, which indirectly modifies the CMC discourse. The aim of the contribution is to analyse specific forms of such type of written communication which appears in Romanian and Czech chats.
Cross-sectional survey of canine leishmaniasis in Pantelleria island in Sicily

Dogs are the major reservoir of Leishmania infantum, the causative agent of canine visceral and cutaneous human leishmaniasis in the Mediterranean basin. Canine and human leishmaniosis are endemic in Italy, particularly in central and southern regions, including islands. Here we show a preliminary, clinical, serological and molecular study carried out in Pantelleria island during 2017. In this study, we clinically examined 136 dogs for the presence of symptoms compatible with leishmaniasis, determined the titer of anti-Leishmania antibodies, and investigated Leishmania DNA by real time PCR in blood and/or lymph node of each dog. The language of the novels of Andrea Camilleri is idiosyncratic, accreting onto Sicilian dialect like a saprophyte. However, the novels of Camilleri have had greater national literary success in Italy in the last 30 years. The first part of this text will attempt to explain the reasons for this cultural phenomenon, against the backdrop of the Italian linguistic panora- ma. The second part gathers together aspects of Camilleri’s prose, which shed light on the nature and origin of his literary expression.

Abstract A critical revision of published data along with new field data allow to draw up the succession of the fish faunas from the Lower Cenomanian to the Lower Turonian in the Tafilalt basin and surrounding areas (southeast Morocco). The analysis of these faunas shows changes from freshwater to marine palaeoenvironments. The palaeogeographic distribution of some taxa is discussed. It shows that the crossing of strictly freshwater organisms between Africa and South America was likely impossible at the time of the formation of the deposits resting around the Tafilalt basin and named ‘Kem Kem beds’.
