From Caristi’s Theorem to Ekeland’s Variational Principle in ${0}_{\sigma }$ -Complete Metric-Like Spaces

We discuss the extension of some fundamental results in nonlinear analysis to the setting of ${0}_{\sigma }$ -complete metric-like spaces. Then, we show that these extensions can be obtained via the corresponding results in standard metric spaces.

The goal of the article is to classify foliations of S3 by regular canal surfaces, that is envelopes of one-parameter families of spheres which are immersed surfaces. We will add some extra information when the leaves are “surfaces of revolution” in a conformal sense.

Genome rearrangement distances and gene order phylogeny in gamma-Proteobacteria.

Genome rearrangements have been studied in 30 gamma-proteobacterial complete genomes by comparing the order of a reduced set of genes on the chromosome. This set included those genes fulfilling several characteristics, the main ones being that an ortholog was present in every genome and that none of them had been acquired by horizontal gene transfer. Genome rearrangement distances were estimated based on either the number of breakpoints or the minimal number of inversions separating two genomes. AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has amplified several psychosocial risks and problem behaviors among vulnerable individuals. Given that gambling has high addictive potential, it is important to consider the underlying mechanisms of problem gambling. This study examined psychosocial factors associated with pandemic-time problem gambling.Cross-sectional data were gathered via an online survey of 18–75-year-old Finnish, Swedish, and British respondents (n = 2,022) who reported having gambled at least occasionally during the pandemic. This large-scale meta-analysis aimed to provide the most comprehensive synthesis to date of the available evidence from the pre-COVID period on risk and protective factors for (internet) gaming disorder (as defined in the DSM-5 or ICD-11) across all studied populations. The risk/protective factors included demographic characteristics, psychological, psychopathological, social, and gaming-related factors.
