Fuzzy Cognitive Maps-Based Modelling of Residential Mobility Dynamics: GeoComputation Approach

2017

International audience; This paper is concerned with proposing a fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) driven approach for geocomputing urban dynamics (social, spatial and temporal) as a complex system. After an overview of FCMs, mathematical fundamentals methodology that this theory suggests are examined. Then, the formalization and algorithm implementation of a model apply to residential mobility in urban space based on FCMs is described. Very good results were obtained, demonstrating that the use of these modelling approach is good and reliable.

Borders on the old maps of Jizera Mountain

2019

Abstract Old maps, mainly from the period between 1890 and 1940, have been collected in the framework of the project “Old Maps of the Jizera Mountains”. These maps provide us with a complex picture, mainly of tourism, in this currently Czech–Polish territory. The territory of the Jizera Mountains was inhabited mainly by a German-speaking population on both sides of the border until 1945. Yet it is interesting to examine how the border between the two states – in those times Czechoslovakia and Germany, now Czechia and Poland – was illustrated on these old maps. This article argues that the border was not perceived as a barrier as such until later on, mainly due to the ethnic change in the bo…

Msb2 is a Ste11 membrane concentrator required for full activation of the HOG pathway.

2015

The high osmolarity glycerol (HOG) pathway, composed of membrane-associated osmosensors, adaptor proteins and core signaling kinases, is essential for the survival of yeast cells under hyper-osmotic stress. Here, we studied how the MAPKKK Ste11 might change its protein interaction profile during acute stress exposure, with an emphasis on the sensory system of the so-called Sho1/Msb2 signaling branch. To characterize the transience of protein-protein interactions we utilized a recently described enzymatic in vivo protein proximity assay (M-track). Accordingly, interaction signals between Ste11 and many of its signaling partners can already be detected even under basal conditions. In most cas…

Potencialidades de Google Maps en la investigación social aplicada

2019

In recent years, Google has devoted resources to build a complete map of the world. They constantly scan the territory, collecting a large amount of data that provides updated and complete geographic information. This allows us to have an interoperable map that provides the end user with a search tool, not only of routes but also of shops, equipment and any type of geo-referenced information. In addition, Google Maps provides a series of Application Programming Interface (API), which provides a library of set of subroutines, functions and procedures (in object-oriented programming) that can be used by other software to automate the extraction of information of the Google platform. Integrating digital documents by means of concept maps: testing an intervention program with eye-movements modelling examples

2021

When using the Internet to learn about a curricular topic students face the challenge of not only understanding each single document, but also of integrating the ideas in a combined representation. Several intervention studies have tested instructional methods, such as building concept maps, aimed at teaching integration of multiple documents to Secondary education and older students. However, building a concept map may be demanding for learners and requires competencies to build maps in an appropriate way. In the current study we explore the extent to which such integration processes relying a concept map mapping instruction can be efficiently taught to 6th grade students. Specifically, we…

A chain of solvable non-Hermitian Hamiltonians constructed by a series of metric operators

2021

We show how, given a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian $H$, we can generate new non-Hermitian operators sequentially, producing a virtually infinite chain of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians which are isospectral to $H$ and $H^\dagger$ and whose eigenvectors we can easily deduce in an almost automatic way; no ingredients are necessary other than $H$ and its eigensystem. To set off the chain and keep it running, we use, for the first time in our knowledge, a series of maps all connected to different metric operators. We show how the procedure works in several physically relevant systems. In particular, we apply our method to various versions of the Hatano-Nelson model and to some PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.

Hardy spaces and quasiconformal maps in the Heisenberg group

2023

We define Hardy spaces $H^p$, $00$ such that every $K$-quasiconformal map $f:B \to f(B) \subset \mathbb{H}^1$ belongs to $H^p$ for all $0<p<p_0(K)$. Second, we give two equivalent conditions for the $H^p$ membership of a quasiconformal map $f$, one in terms of the radial limits of $f$, and one using a nontangential maximal function of $f$. As an application, we characterize Carleson measures on $B$ via integral inequalities for quasiconformal mappings on $B$ and their radial limits. Our paper thus extends results by Astala and Koskela, Jerison and Weitsman, Nolder, and Zinsmeister, from $\mathbb{R}^n$ to $\mathbb{H}^1$. A crucial difference between the proofs in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathbb{…

Conformality and $Q$-harmonicity in sub-Riemannian manifolds

2016

We prove the equivalence of several natural notions of conformal maps between sub-Riemannian manifolds. Our main contribution is in the setting of those manifolds that support a suitable regularity theory for subelliptic $p$-Laplacian operators. For such manifolds we prove a Liouville-type theorem, i.e., 1-quasiconformal maps are smooth. In particular, we prove that contact manifolds support the suitable regularity. The main new technical tools are a sub-Riemannian version of p-harmonic coordinates and a technique of propagation of regularity from horizontal layers.

Pluvial flooding in urban areas: the role of surface drainage efficiency

2018

Pluvial flooding in urban areas may derive from the limited or temporarily reduced efficiency of surface drainage, even when the underlying storm sewers are properly designed. This study focuses on the impact of uncertainties in the operational condition of the surface drainage system on pluvial flood hazard. The flood propagation model FLURB-2D is implemented on a selected study area in the town of Genoa (Italy). Synthetic hyetographs based on the Chicago and bivariate copula methods with suitable return periods are used as input. While simulating the design rainfall, inlet operational conditions are varied stochastically using a Monte Carlo approach. Results confirm that microtopography h…
