AUGMENTED REALITY. THE CASE OF SALINAS MUSEUM OF PALERMO

2011

Already used in very specific areas such as in military and medical or academic research, in 2009 thanks to improved technology, augmented reality is to reach wider audiences and as information campaigns, advertising-augmented published in newspapers or on the network, and through a growing number of applications for mobile phones, particularly iPhone. "The Augmented Reality on the desktop computer is based on the use of markers, or ARtags, and stylized drawings, which are shown to the webcam, are recognized by the PC, and which are overlaid in real-time multimedia content: video, audio , 3D objects, etc.. Normally, applications of augmented reality are based on Adobe Flash technology and t…

1H-NMR-Based Metabolomics in Autism Spectrum Disorder and Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome

2022

We recently described a unique plasma metabolite profile in subjects with pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS), suggesting pathogenic models involving specific patterns of neurotransmission, neuroinflammation, and oxidative stress. Here, we extend the analysis to a group of patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as a consensus has recently emerged around its immune-mediated pathophysiology with a widespread involvement of brain networks. This observational case-control study enrolled patients referred for PANS and ASD from June 2019 to May 2020, as well as neurotypical age and gender-matched control subjects. Thirty-four PANS outpatients, fifteen ASD outpatients, an…

Planktivorous vendace (Coregonus albula) utilise algae-derived fatty acids for biomass increase and lipid deposition

2018

Spatial and seasonal variation in the abundance and composition of phytoplankton and other basal resources (bacteria, terrestrial detritus) influence the availability of essen-tial polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for upper trophic levels in lake food webs. We studied accumulation, composition and content of fatty acids in planktivorous ven-dace (Coregonus albula) muscle tissue during the summer feeding period (May to late September) in six boreal lakes. Vendace muscle fatty acid content increased from ~17.7 mg/g DW to ~28.1 mg/g DW from spring to summer, corresponding to a ~59% increase in total fatty acids. PUFA accounted for 45%–65% of all fatty acids, and the most abundant fatty acid …

Inflammatory Biomarkers in Febrile Seizure: A Comprehensive Bibliometric, Review and Visualization Analysis.

2021

Background: Inflammatory markers association with many diseases is the subject of many articles and reviews. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric review and visualization analysis of inflammatory biomarkers (IB) in the context of febrile seizure (FS) patients. Methods: The study focused on IB in FS using (1) bibliometric analysis specific indicators and maps in order to analyze and present the network of authors, journals, universities, and countries, and (2) automated literature screening and unsupervised clustering approach for filtering and topic cluster identification. Results: We conducted a literature mining search on FS research, specifically IB in the context of FS, usin…

DNA Extraction From Orthoptera Museum Specimens

2011

We describe a procedure for rapid purification of high quality DNA from either fresh or dry Orthoptera, suitable for the PCR amplification of DNA regions more than 800 bp long (even from oldest specimens), which allows genetic analyses on animals from collections without the complete specimen disruption.

The CD38-Positive and CD38-Negative Subsets of CD34(high)-Positive Primary Acute Myeloid Leukemia Blasts Differ Considerably in the Expression of Imm…

2008

Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is thought to arise from a rare putative ‘leukemic stem cell’ that is capable of self-renewal and formation of leukemic blasts. Serial xenotransplantation studies in immunodeficient mice have shown that this leukemia-initiating cell resides at very low numbers within CD34(high)-positive CD38-negative AML cells. Thus, immunotherapeutic approaches successfully eradicating this cell compartment should result in cure from disease. The objective of our study was to characterize the immune phenotype of the CD38-negative and CD38-positive subsets of primary CD34(high)-positive AML blasts ex vivo. We obtained therapeutic leukapheresis products from 17 AML patie…

Changes of morphogenic competence in mature Pinus sylvestris L. buds in vitro.

2002

The effects of season and cold storage on morphogenic competence in mature Pinus sylvestris buds were investigated. Peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity were measured as markers of oxidative metabolism. No growth in vitro was observed on explants detached from the end of January until the beginning of March. Brachioblasts, each with a couple of needles, formed on 11 % of the buds without macrostrobili that were detached in early April and introduced immediately into culture. Of the explants detached in late July, 15 % formed shoots with brachioblasts and needles. The lowest activity of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in pine buds was observed from the end of April until the beginnin…

2021

The purpose of this study was to investigate blood-based biomarkers and their regulation with regard to different recovery-stress states. A total of 35 male elite athletes (13 badminton, 22 soccer players) were recruited, and two venous blood samples were taken: one in a ‘recovered’ state (REC) after a minimum of one-day rest from exercise and another one in a ‘non-recovered’ state (NOR) after a habitual loading microcycle. Overall, 23 blood-based biomarkers of different physiologic domains, which address inflammation, muscle damage, and tissue repair, were analyzed by Luminex assays. Across all athletes, only creatine kinase (CK), interleukin (IL-) 6, and IL-17A showed higher concentration…

Vazodilatācijas intensitātes un insulīna rezistences rādītāju saistība ar endoteliālo (dis)funkciju raksturojošo signālmolekulu koncentrācijām hronis…

2013
