Far-field light imaging in the presence of atmospheric turbulence with rotating anti-phase apertures: Theoretical investigation

We investigated the diffraction of far-field light objects in the presence of turbulence formed by an optical system with a rotating anti-phase mask. This mask facilitates to detect the position of faint companion in every direction around the bright companion. In the presence of atmospheric turbulence, diffraction images of distant objects are beyond the diffraction limits, the proposed phase shift mask has a merit to compensate the turbulence results high contrast astronomical imaging under partially coherent light illumination and it is proficient to increase the resolution limits in a Sparrow criterion sense. Electroweak precision data and right-handed gauge bosons

The implication of recent electroweak precision data for left-right symmetric models is examined. We establish a lower bound on the charged and neutral right-handed gauge bosons independent of the right-handed neutrino mass and of any restrictions or implied symmetries on the right KM matrix.

Influence of gravity vector on eye movement elicited by linear acceleration.

When the body/head motion is sensed by otolith organs, they respond not only to the resultant acceleration of the motion but also to the gravitational force. We investigated the influence of the gravity vector on the otolithic-ocular reflex caused by motion in normal subjects. The sled type linear accelerator, moving back and forth with a frequency of 0.25 Hz and an amplitude of 2 m, generated right-left linear acceleration with a maximum magnitude of 0.5 g. Evidence ofB+→τ+νdecays with hadronicBtags

We present a search for the decay B+→τ+ν using 467.8×10^6 BB pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We select a sample of events with one completely reconstructed B- in the hadronic decay mode (B-→D(*)0X- and B-→J/ψX-). We examine the rest of the event to search for a B+→τ+ν decay. We identify the τ+ lepton in the following modes: τ+→e+νν , τ+→μ+νν , τ+→π+ν and τ+→ρ+ν . We find an excess of events with respect to the expected background, which excludes the null signal hypothesis at the level of 3.8σ (including systematic uncertainties) and corresponds to a branching fraction value of B(B+→τ+ν)=(1.83_(-0.49)^(+0.53)(stat)±0.24(syst))×10^(…

Electrophysiological Correlates of Intensity Resolution Under Forward Masking

Nonsimultaneous masking can severely impair auditory intensity resolution, but the effect strongly depends on the stimulus configuration. For example, an intense forward masker causes a pronounced impairment in intensity resolution for standards presented at intermediate levels, but not for standards presented at low and high levels, resulting in a midlevel hump pattern (Zeng et al., Hear Res 55:223-230, 1991). Several aspects of the phenomenon cannot be explained by mechanisms in the auditory periphery. MALTA: an asynchronous readout CMOS monolithic pixel detector for the ATLAS High-Luminosity upgrade

The ATLAS collaboration is currently investigating CMOS monolithic pixel sensors for the outermost layer of the upgrade of its Inner Tracker (ITk). For this application, two large scale prototypes featuring small collection electrode have been produced in a radiation-hard process modification of a standard 0.18 μm CMOS imaging technology: the MALTA, with a novel asynchronous readout, and the TJ MONOPIX, based on the well established "column-drain" architecture. Human contrast sensitivity in coherent Maxwellian view: effect of coherent noise and comparison with speckle.

Lasers have been used in vision for measuring the neural contrast sensitivity function (CSF) by forming interference fringes on the retina. We distinguish among three kinds of illumination with lasers: incoherent (without noise), Maxwellian or coherent (with coherent noise), and diffuse coherent (with speckle). The three have different characteristics and different CSF's. A coherent imaging system is designed to measure the CSF with fully coherent illumination. This is the CSF of the whole visual system, although it is measured with gratings imaged on the retina. Measurement of the W-pair cross section in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at 172 GeV

The e(+)e(-) --> W+W- cross section is measured in a data sample collected by ALEPH at a mean centre-of-mass energy of 172.09 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 10.65 pb(-1). Cross sections are given for the three topologies, fully leptonic, semi-leptonic and hadronic of a W-pair decay. Under the assumption that no other decay modes are present, the W-pair cross section is measured to be 11.7 +/- 1.2(stat.) +/- 0.3(syst.) pb. The existence of the triple gauge boson vertex of the Standard Model is clearly preferred by the data. The decay branching ratio of the W boson into hadrons is measured to be B(W --> hadrons) = 67.7 +/- 3.1(stat.) +/- 0.7(syst.) %, allowing a determinati…

Study of decay dynamics andCPasymmetry inD+→KL0e+νedecay

Using 2.92 fb(-1) of electron-positron annihilation data collected at root s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we obtain the first measurements of the absolute branching fraction B(D+ -> K(L)(0)e(+)nu(e)) = (4.481 +/- 0.027(stat) +/- 0.103(sys))% and the CP asymmetry A(CP)(D+-> KL0e+nu e) = (-0.59 +/- 0.60(stat) +/- 1.48(sys))%. From the D+ -> K(L)(0)e(+)nu(e) differential decay rate distribution, the product of the hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element, f(+)(K)(0)vertical bar V-cs vertical bar, is determined to be 0.728 +/- 0.006(stat) +/- 0.011(sys). Precision measurements of B(D+→μ+νμ), the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, and the quark mixing matrix element |Vcd|

We report a measurement of the branching fraction B(D+ -> mu(+)nu(mu)) = [3.71 +/- 0.19(stat) +/- 0.06(sys)] x 10(-4) based on 2.92 fb(-1) of data accumulated at root s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. This measurement, in conjunction with the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cd vertical bar determined from a global Standard Model fit, implies a value for the weak decay constant f(D+) = (203.2 +/- 5.3 +/- 1.8) MeV. Additionally, using this branching fraction measurement together with a lattice QCD prediction for f(D+), we find vertical bar V-cd vertical bar 0.2210 +/- 0.0058 +/- 0.0047.
