Minimal Flavour Violation and Multi-Higgs Models

2010

We propose an extension of the hypothesis of Minimal Flavour Violation (MFV) to general multi-Higgs models without the assumption of Natural Flavour Conservation (NFC) in the Higgs sector. We study in detail under what conditions the neutral Higgs couplings are only functions of V-CKM and propose a MFV expansion for the neutral Higgs couplings to fermions

The Proton Spectrum in Neutron Beta Decay: Latest Results with the aSPECT Spectrometer

2009

Abstract The purpose of the neutron decay spectrometer aSPECT is to determine the antineutrino electron angular correlation coefficient a with high precision. Latest measurements with aSPECT were performed during April/May 2008 at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. In this paper we give a report on the experiment and the status of the ongoing data analysis.

Measurements of single top quark production cross sections and|Vtb|inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2011

We present measurements of production cross sections of single top quarks in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\;\rm TeV$ in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\;\rm fb^{-1}$ collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with an isolated electron or muon, an imbalance in transverse energy, and two, three, or four jets, with one or two of them containing a bottom hadron. We obtain an inclusive cross section of $\sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X, tqb+X) = 3.43\pm^{0.73}_{0.74}\;\rm pb$ and use it to extract the CKM matrix element $0.79 < |V_{tb}| \leq 1$ at the 95% C.L. We also measure $\sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X) = 0.68\pm^{0.38}…

Measurement ofCPobservables inB±→DCPK±decays and constraints on the CKM angleγ

2010

Using the entire sample of 467×10^6 Υ(4S)→BB[overbar] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, we perform an analysis of B^± → DK^± decays, using decay modes in which the neutral D meson decays to either CP-eigenstates or non-CP-eigenstates. We measure the partial decay rate charge asymmetries for CP-even and CP-odd D final states to be A_(CP+) = 0.25±0.06±0.02 and A_(CP-) = -0.09±0.07±0.02, respectively, where the first error is the statistical and the second is the systematic uncertainty. The parameter A_(CP+) is different from zero with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations, constituting evidence f…

Invariants and flavour in the general Two Higgs Doublet Model

2012

The flavour structure of the general Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) is analysed and a detailed study of the parameter space is presented, showing that flavour mixing in the 2HDM can be parametrized by various unitary matrices which arise from the misalignment in flavour space between pairs of various Hermitian flavour matrices which can be constructed within the model. This is entirely analogous to the generation of the CKM matrix in the Standard Model (SM). We construct weak basis invariants which can give insight into the physical implications of any flavour model, written in an arbitrary weak basis (WB) in the context of 2HDM. We apply this technique to two special cases, models with MFV…

Measuring the proton spectrum in neutron decay - latest results with aSPECT

2008

The retardation spectrometer aSPECT was built to measure the shape of the proton spectrum in free neutron decay with high precision. This allows us to determine the antineutrino electron angular correlation coefficient a. We aim for a precision more than one order of magnitude better than the present best value, which is Delta_a /a = 5%. In a recent beam time performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin during April / May 2008 we reached a statistical accuracy of about 2% per 24 hours measurement time. Several systematic effects were investigated experimentally. We expect the total relative uncertainty to be well below 5%.

Evidence for s-channel single top quark production in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

2013

We present measurements of the cross sections for the two main production modes of single top quarks in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV in the Run II data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb(-1). The s-channel cross section is measured to be sigma(p (p) over bar -> tb + X) = 1.10(-0.31)(+0.33) pb with no assumptions on the value of the t-channel cross section. Similarly, the t-channel cross section is measured to be sigma(p (p) over bar -> tqb + X) = 3.07(-0.49)(+0.54) pb. We also measure the s + t combined cross section as sigma(p (p) over bar -> tb + X, tqb + X) = 4.11(-0.55)(+0.60) ph and set…

Hyperon Semileptonic Decays and CKM Unitarity

2005

We perform a new numerical analysis of hyperon semileptonic decays emphasizing the systematic uncertainties. The poor understanding of SU(3) symmetry breaking effects at second order in the vector form factor translates into a large error of |V(us)|. Using our determination |V(us)| = 0.226 +/- 0.005 together with those coming from other sources we test the unitarity of the CKM matrix.
