Coat colours in the Massese sheep breed are associated with mutations in the agouti signalling protein (ASIP) and melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) genes

2012

Massese is an Italian dairy sheep breed characterized by animals with black skin and horns and black or apparent grey hairs. Owing to the presence of these two coat colour types, this breed can be considered an interesting model to evaluate the effects of coat colour gene polymorphisms on this phenotypic trait. Two main loci have been already shown to affect coat colour in sheep: Agouti and Extension coding for the agouti signalling protein (ASIP) and melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) genes, respectively. The Agouti locus is affected by a large duplication including the ASIP gene that may determine the Agouti white and tan allele (A(Wt)). Other disrupting or partially inactivating mutations ha…

Microsurgical testis-sparing surgery in small testicular masses: seven years retrospective management and results

2012

OBJECTIVE To retrospectively evaluate the clinical outcomes of 20 patients diagnosed with a nonpalpable or small testicular mass (2 cm) at 2 academic urological department. Testis-sparing surgery (TSS) is currently performed routinely for the management of nonpalpable testicular masses. High reliability of frozen section examination (FSE) and high-frequency ultrasound (US) and the adoption of microsurgical techniques improved safety and feasibility of this technique.METHODS From January 2004 to March 2011, 23 patients underwent microsurgical TSS. An inguinal approach was performed in 22 cases and a suprapubic incision in one bilateral case. All procedures were performed with an operating mi…

2014

The work of the PhD deals with the synthesis of polymerizable monomers derived from biomass, the study of their photopolymerization and the characterization of the resulting materials. The formulated monomers were tested in a printing method of Braille characters. The monomers were prepared in a two-steps reaction that is simple, economic and environmentally friendly. The first step comprised a reaction between glycerol derivatives (glycerol carbonate or glycidol) and fatty acids. In the second step, the obtained [alpha]-monoglycerides were functionalized to obtain photopolymerizable monomers. The different obtained monomers that bear (meth)acrylate and/or epoxy groups were photopolymerized …

DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENTS E LIQUIDI IONICI: SOLVENTI PER LO SVILUPPO DI PROCESSI ECO-COMPATIBILI

2020

Reactivity of arsenic compounds on trapping masses and role of the active phase

2019

The aim of the thesis is to study the reactivity of organic arsenic compounds on various recovery masses and to identify the role of the nature of the active phase and the reaction mechanisms involved. The active phase is composed of metals (Ni, Co, Mo, Cu, Zn, Fe, etc.), pure or in a mixture, in the reduced state or in the sulphide state. The selection of the metallic phases will be carried out by molecular modeling "ab initio", and the synthesis by impregnation of metallic salts on mesoporous aluminas). The reactivity of the solids will be studied in a static reactor on simplified model loads, with kinetic monitoring. The advanced characterization of the solids after synthesis and after r…

Numerical Multi-Loop Calculations via Finite Integrals and One-Mass EW-QCD Drell-Yan Master Integrals

2017

We study a recently-proposed approach to the numerical evaluation of multi-loop Feynman integrals using available sector decomposition programs. As our main example, we consider the two-loop integrals for the $\alpha \alpha_s$ corrections to Drell-Yan lepton production with up to one massive vector boson in physical kinematics. As a reference, we evaluate these planar and non-planar integrals by the method of differential equations through to weight five. Choosing a basis of finite integrals for the numerical evaluation with SecDec3 leads to tremendous performance improvements and renders the otherwise problematic seven-line topologies numerically accessible. As another example, basis integ…

Probing Sizes and Shapes of Nobelium Isotopes by Laser Spectroscopy

2018

Until recently, ground-state nuclear moments of the heaviest nuclei could only be inferred from nuclear spectroscopy, where model assumptions are required. Laser spectroscopy in combination with modern atomic structure calculations is now able to probe these moments directly, in a comprehensive and nuclear-model-independent way. Here we report on unique access to the differential mean-square charge radii of ^{252,253,254}No, and therefore to changes in nuclear size and shape. State-of-the-art nuclear density functional calculations describe well the changes in nuclear charge radii in the region of the heavy actinides, indicating an appreciable central depression in the deformed proton densi…

In situ recordings of large gelatinous spheres from NE Atlantic, and the first genetic confirmation of egg mass of Illex coindetii (Vérany, 1839) (Ce…

2021

AbstractIn total, 90 gelatinous spheres, averaging one meter in diameter, have been recorded from ~ 1985 to 2019 from the NE Atlantic Ocean, including the Mediterranean Sea, using citizen science. More than 50% had a dark streak through center. They were recorded from the surface to ~ 60–70 m depth, mainly neutrally buoyant, in temperatures between 8 and 24°C. Lack of tissue samples has until now, prohibited confirmation of species. However, in 2019 scuba divers secured four tissue samples from the Norwegian coast. In the present study, DNA analysis using COI confirms species identity as the ommastrephid broadtail shortfin squid Illex coindetii (Vérany, 1839); these are the first confirmed …

LE METODICHE ANALITICHE

2022
