Identification of Objects Based on Generalized Amplitude-Phase Images Statistical Models

2017

The article presents the dynamical objects identification technology based on statistical models of amplitude-phase images (APIm) – multidimensional data arrays (semantic models) and statistical correlation analysis methods using the generalized discrete Hilbert transforms (DHT) – 2D Hilbert (Foucault) isotropic (HTI), anisotropic (HTA) and total transforms – AP-analysis (APA) to calculate the APIm. The identified objects are modeled with 3D airplanes templates rotated in space around the center of Cartesian coordinate system. The DHT domain system of coordinates displaying the plane projections (2D flat images) remains to be space-invariant. That causes the anisotropic properties of APIm a…

Automatic Acoustic Target Detecting and Tracking on the Azimuth Recording Diagram with Image Processing Methods

2019

International audience; Passive acoustic target detection has been a hot research topic for a few decades. Azimuth recording diagram is one of the most promising techniques to estimate the arrival direction of the interested signal by visualizing the sound wave information. However, this method is challenged by the random ambient noise, resulting in low reliability and short effective distance. This paper presents a real-time postprocessing framework for passive acoustic target detection modalities by using a sonar array, in which image processing methods are used to automate the target detecting and tracking on the azimuth recording diagram. The simulation results demonstrate that the prop…

Secure and Privacy Preserving Pattern Matching in Distributed Cloud-based Data Storage

2019

Given two strings: pattern $p$ of length $m$ and text $t$ of length $n$ . The string matching problem is to find all (or some) occurrences of the pattern $p$ in the text $t$ . We introduce a new simple data structure, called index arrays, and design fast privacy-preserving matching algorithm for string matching. The motivation behind introducing index arrays is determined by the need for pattern matching on distributed cloud-based datasets with semi-trusted cloud providers. It is intended to use encrypted index arrays both to improve performance and protect confidentiality and privacy of user data.

A Propensity Score-matched Comparison of Infliximab and Adalimumab in Tumour Necrosis Factor-α Inhibitor-naïve and Non-naïve Patients with Crohn's Di…

2019

Background and aims There is an unmet need to better understand the effectiveness of different biologics in inflammatory bowel diseases. We aimed at performing a multicentre, real-life comparison of the effectiveness of infliximab [IFX] and adalimumab [ADA] in Crohn's disease [CD]. Methods Data of consecutive patients with CD treated with IFX and ADA from January 2013 to May 2017 were extracted from the cohort of the Sicilian Network for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We used propensity score-matching accounting for the main baseline characteristics in TNF-α inhibitor-naive and non-naive patients. Results A total of 632 patients [735 total treatments] were included. Among naive patients, a cli…

The colored longest common prefix array computed via sequential scans

2018

Due to the increased availability of large datasets of biological sequences, the tools for sequence comparison are now relying on efficient alignment-free approaches to a greater extent. Most of the alignment-free approaches require the computation of statistics of the sequences in the dataset. Such computations become impractical in internal memory when very large collections of long sequences are considered. In this paper, we present a new conceptual data structure, the colored longest common prefix array (cLCP), that allows to efficiently tackle several problems with an alignment-free approach. In fact, we show that such a data structure can be computed via sequential scans in semi-exter…

Automatic monitoring system for the detection and evaluation of the evolution of hemangiomas

2016

In this paper we introduce an automatic monitoring system for the detection and the evaluation of the evolution of hemangiomas using a fuzzy logic system based on two parameters: area and redness. We have considered pairs of images (from two different moments in time) that show hemangiomas either evolving, stationary or regressing. The starting points of the algorithm are the rectangular regions of interest (ROI), manually selected for each of the two images, and automatically segmented using Fuzzy C-means. Using the area and the redness of the hemagiomas extracted with Fuzzy C-means, for the same patient, at different moments of time, the algorithm decides whether the hemangioma is evolvin…

Accelerating metagenomic read classification on CUDA-enabled GPUs.

2016

Metagenomic sequencing studies are becoming increasingly popular with prominent examples including the sequencing of human microbiomes and diverse environments. A fundamental computational problem in this context is read classification; i.e. the assignment of each read to a taxonomic label. Due to the large number of reads produced by modern high-throughput sequencing technologies and the rapidly increasing number of available reference genomes software tools for fast and accurate metagenomic read classification are urgently needed. We present cuCLARK, a read-level classifier for CUDA-enabled GPUs, based on the fast and accurate classification of metagenomic sequences using reduced k-mers (…

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio as a Predictor of Poor Prognosis in Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer Patients Treated with Nab-Paclitaxel plus Gemcitabine…

2018

Background. High neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has shown to be a predictor of poor outcomes in various malignancies, including pancreatic cancer. Methods. We assessed 70 consecutive pts with histologically confirmed mPC who received chemotherapy with nab-paclitaxel/gemcitabine at two different European oncologic centers between January 2012 and November 2015. Variables assessed for prognostic correlations included age ≥ 66, sex, Karnofsky PS score, primary tumor site, baseline CA19.9 level ≥ 59xULN, 12-week decrease of the CA19.9 level ≥ 50% from baseline, basal bilirubin level, baseline NLR, biliary stent implantation, and liver metastasis. Survival analyses were generated according…

A practical algorithmic approach to mature aggressive B cell lymphoma diagnosis in the double/triple hit era. Selecting cases, matching clinical bene…

2019

An accurate diagnosis of clinically distinct subgroups of aggressive mature B cell lymphomas is crucial for the choice of proper treatment. Presently, precise recognition of these disorders relies on the combination of morphological, immunophenotypical, and cytogenetic/molecular features. The diagnostic workup in such situations implies the application of costly and time-consuming analyses, which are not always required, since an intensified treatment option is reasonably reserved to fit patients. The Italian Group of Haematopathology proposes herein a practical algorithm for the diagnosis of aggressive mature B cell lymphomas based on a stepwise approach, aimed to select cases deserving mo…

A matching task as a potential technique for descriptive profile validation

2003

If panellists can successfully match products to the corresponding descriptive profiles, then the profiles can be regarded as product-relevant and valid. This work examined the ability of a trained panel to perform a matching task between products and their descriptive profiles. A 13-member panel, trained to assess eight cheeses in terms of 19 flavour attributes, performed the task based on their individually developed profiles. The panel's ability to match products to profiles was well above that expected by chance, and chi-square statistics for each of the products were significant (P<0.05). A correspondence analysis based on the group results indicated that all the products were relative…
