On the Prandtl Boundary Layer Equations in Presence of Corner Singularities

2014

In this paper we prove the well-posedness of the Prandtl boundary layer equations on a periodic strip when the initial and the boundary data are not assigned to be compatible.

Solutions of elliptic equations with a level surface parallel to the boundary: stability of the radial configuration

2016

A positive solution of a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value problem or initial-value problems for certain elliptic or parabolic equations must be radially symmetric and monotone in the radial direction if just one of its level surfaces is parallel to the boundary of the domain. Here, for the elliptic case, we prove the stability counterpart of that result. We show that if the solution is almost constant on a surface at a fixed distance from the boundary, then the domain is almost radially symmetric, in the sense that is contained in and contains two concentric balls $${B_{{r_e}}}$$ and $${B_{{r_i}}}$$ , with the difference r e -r i (linearly) controlled by a suitable norm of the deviation…

Travelling wave solutions of nonlinear equations using the Auxiliary Equation Method

2008

In this paper we obtain travelling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations starting from a different reducible hyperelliptic equation as an auxiliary equation which does not appear in any other paper. We point out that all the cases, to our knowledge, considered in the literature are included in this paper, so our work exhausts all the reducible cases of the hyperelliptic equation to the genus one.

Operators on Partial Inner Product Spaces: Towards a Spectral Analysis

2014

Given a LHS (Lattice of Hilbert spaces) $V_J$ and a symmetric operator $A$ in $V_J$, in the sense of partial inner product spaces, we define a generalized resolvent for $A$ and study the corresponding spectral properties. In particular, we examine, with help of the KLMN theorem, the question of generalized eigenvalues associated to points of the continuous (Hilbertian) spectrum. We give some examples, including so-called frame multipliers.

The Partial Inner Product Space Method: A Quick Overview

2010

Many families of function spaces play a central role in analysis, in particular, in signal processing (e.g., wavelet or Gabor analysis). Typical are spaces, Besov spaces, amalgam spaces, or modulation spaces. In all these cases, the parameter indexing the family measures the behavior (regularity, decay properties) of particular functions or operators. It turns out that all these space families are, or contain, scales or lattices of Banach spaces, which are special cases ofpartial inner product spaces(PIP-spaces). In this context, it is often said that such families should be taken as a whole and operators, bases, and frames on them should be defined globally, for the whole family, instead o…

Fixed point results under generalized c-distance with application to nonlinear fourth-order differential equation

2019

We consider the notion of generalized c-distance in the setting of ordered cone b-metric spaces and obtain some new fixed point results. Our results provide a more general statement, under which can be unified some theorems of the existing literature. In particular, we refer to the results of Sintunavarat et al. [W. Sintunavarat, Y.J. Cho, P. Kumam, Common fixed point theorems for c-distance in ordered cone metric spaces, Comput. Math. Appl. 62 (2011) 1969-1978]. Some examples and an application to nonlinear fourth-order differential equation are given to support the theory.

Three Duality Symmetries between Photons and Cosmic String Loops, and Macro and Micro Black Holes

2015

We present a review of two thermal duality symmetries between two different kinds of systems: photons and cosmic string loops, and macro black holes and micro black holes, respectively. It also follows a third joint duality symmetry amongst them through thermal equilibrium and stability between macro black holes and photon gas, and micro black holes and string loop gas, respectively. The possible cosmological consequences of these symmetries are discussed.

Stationary, Oscillatory, Spatio-Temporal Patterns and Existence of Global Solutions in Reaction-Diffusion Models of Three Species

2023

The goal of my Ph.D. research is to analyze three species models in order to describe the behavior of an ecological community. In particular, two reaction-diffusion systems describing different local interactions between three species have been considered to obtain species coexistence, diversity, and distribution patterns. The first analyzed model describes intraguild predation: there are an IG-predator species, an IG-prey species, and a common resource species, which is shared by both of them. The IGP interaction is of Lotka-Volterra type, coupled with nonlinear diffusion, since we assume that the IG-prey moves towards lower density areas of the IG-predator. In this model, the extinction o…
