Anisotropic -Laplacian equations when goes to
2010
Abstract In this paper we prove a stability result for an anisotropic elliptic problem. More precisely, we consider the Dirichlet problem for an anisotropic equation, which is as the p -Laplacian equation with respect to a group of variables and as the q -Laplacian equation with respect to the other variables ( 1 p q ), with datum f belonging to a suitable Lebesgue space. For this problem, we study the behaviour of the solutions as p goes to 1 , showing that they converge to a function u , which is almost everywhere finite, regardless of the size of the datum f . Moreover, we prove that this u is the unique solution of a limit problem having the 1-Laplacian operator with respect to the firs…
The Dirichlet problem for the total variation flow
2001
Suppose that Ω is an open bounded domain with a Lipschitz boundary. The purpose of this chapter is to study the Dirichlet problem $$ \left\{ \begin{gathered} \frac{{\partial u}} {{\partial t}} = div\left( {\frac{{Du}} {{\left| {Du} \right|}}} \right)in Q = \left( {0,\infty } \right) \times \Omega , \hfill \\ u\left( {t,x} \right) = \phi \left( x \right)on S = \left( {0,\infty } \right) \times \partial \Omega , \hfill \\ u\left( {0,x} \right) = u_0 \left( x \right)in x \in \Omega \hfill \\ \end{gathered} \right. $$ (5.1) where u0 ∈ L1(Ω) and ϕ ∈ L1 (∂Ω). This evolution equation is related to the gradient descent method used to solve the problem $$ \begin{gathered} Minimize \int {_\Omega \lef…
Optimal shape design and unilateral boundary value problems: Part II
2007
In the first part we give a general existence theorem and a regularization method for an optimal control problem where the control is a domain in R″ and where the system is governed by a state relation which includes differential equations as well as inequalities. In the second part applications for optimal shape design problems governed by the Dirichlet-Signorini boundary value problem are presented. Several numerical examples are included.
Shape optimization for monge-ampére equations via domain derivative
2011
In this note we prove that, if $\Omega$ is a smooth, strictly convex, open set in $R^n$ $(n \ge 2)$ with given measure, the $L^1$ norm of the convex solution to the Dirichlet problem $\det D^2 u=1$ in $\Omega$, $u=0$ on $\partial\Omega$, is minimum whenever $\Omega$ is an ellipsoid.
Nonlinear elliptic equations having a gradient term with natural growth
2006
Abstract In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problems whose simplest model example is: (1) { − Δ p u = g ( u ) | ∇ u | p + f , in Ω , u = 0 , on ∂ Ω . Here Ω is a bounded open set in R N ( N ⩾ 2 ), Δ p denotes the so-called p-Laplace operator ( p > 1 ) and g is a continuous real function. Given f ∈ L m ( Ω ) ( m > 1 ), we study under which growth conditions on g problem (1) admits a solution. If m ⩾ N / p , we prove that there exists a solution under assumption (3) (see below), and that it is bounded when m > N p ; while if 1 m N / p and g satisfies the condition (4) below, we prove the existence of an unbounded generalized solution. Note that no smallness condit…
A non-homogeneous elliptic problem dealing with the level set formulation of the inverse mean curvature flow
2015
Abstract In the present paper we study the Dirichlet problem for the equation − div ( D u | D u | ) + | D u | = f in an unbounded domain Ω ⊂ R N , where the datum f is bounded and nonnegative. We point out that the only hypothesis assumed on ∂Ω is that of being Lipschitz-continuous. This problem is the non-homogeneous extension of the level set formulation of the inverse mean curvature flow in a Euclidean space. We introduce a suitable concept of weak solution, for which we prove existence, uniqueness and a comparison principle.
New isoperimetric estimates for solutions to Monge - Ampère equations
2009
Abstract We prove some sharp estimates for solutions to Dirichlet problems relative to Monge–Ampere equations. Among them we show that the eigenvalue of the Dirichlet problem, when computed on convex domains with fixed measure, is maximal on ellipsoids. This result falls in the class of affine isoperimetric inequalities and shows that the eigenvalue of the Monge–Ampere operator behaves just the contrary of the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator.
Radial solutions of Dirichlet problems with concave-convex nonlinearities
2011
Abstract We prove the existence of a double infinite sequence of radial solutions for a Dirichlet concave–convex problem associated with an elliptic equation in a ball of R n . We are interested in relaxing the classical positivity condition on the weights, by allowing the weights to vanish. The idea is to develop a topological method and to use the concept of rotation number. The solutions are characterized by their nodal properties.
Nonlinear Potential Theory and PDEs
1994
We consider equations like — div(∣∇u∣ p-2∇u) = µ, where µ is a nonnegative Radon measure and 1 < p < ∞. Results that relate the solution u and the measure µ are reviewed. A link between potential estimates and the boundary regularity of the Dirichlet problem is established.
Existence and uniqueness of a solution for a parabolic quasilinear problem for linear growth functionals with $L^1$ data
2002
We introduce a new concept of solution for the Dirichlet problem for quasilinear parabolic equations in divergent form for which the energy functional has linear growth. Using Kruzhkov's method of doubling variables both in space and time we prove uniqueness and a comparison principle in $L^1$ for these solutions. To prove the existence we use the nonlinear semigroup theory.
