New descent rules for solving the linear semi-infinite programming problem

The algorithm described in this paper approaches the optimal solution of a continuous semi-infinite linear programming problem through a sequence of basic feasible solutions. The descent rules that we present for the improvement step are quite different when one deals with non-degenerate or degenerate extreme points. For the non-degenerate case we use a simplex-type approach, and for the other case a search direction scheme is applied. Some numerical examples illustrating the method are given.
A Forecasting Support System Based on Exponential Smoothing

This chapter presents a forecasting support system based on the exponential smoothing scheme to forecast time-series data. Exponential smoothing methods are simple to apply, which facilitates computation and considerably reduces data storage requirements. Consequently, they are widely used as forecasting techniques in inventory systems and business planning. After selecting the most adequate model to replicate patterns of the time series under study, the system provides accurate forecasts which can play decisive roles in organizational planning, budgeting and performance monitoring.

Abstract Multiresolution representations of data are powerful tools in signal processing. In Harten’s framework, multiresolution transforms are defined by predicting finer resolution levels of information from coarser ones using an operator, called the prediction operator, and defining details (or wavelet coefficients) that are the difference between the exact values and the predicted values. In this paper we present a multiresolution scheme using local polynomial regression theory in order to design a more accurate prediction operator. The chapter describes an analytical scheme designed for investigating the mathematical discourse of biology tasks. The scheme was developed in the context of analysing tasks that are part of a fisheries management graduate-level course at a Norwegian university. Grounded in the commognitive perspective, the scheme focuses on the following aspects of the tasks: the mathematical content, its relation to biology discourse and students’ expected engagement with both discourses. Schoolteachers could enhance learning in social science courses by using teaching tools that favour a methodological approach focused on the topics' basic structure rather than on facts. An innovative system dynamics social-based ILE built with a social constructivist approach is presented here. The pedagogical futures of this ILE are then analysed. xloops - Automated Feynman diagram calculation

The program package xloops, a general, model independent tool for the calculation of high energy processes up to the two-loop level, is introduced. xloops calculates massive one- and two-loop Feynman diagrams in the standard model and related theories both analytically and numerically. A user-friendly Xwindows frontend is part of the package. xloops relies on the application of parallel space techniques. Using knowledge of human-generated code to bias the search in program synthesis with grammatical evolution

Recent studies show that program synthesis with GE produces code that has different structure compared to human-generated code, e.g., loops and conditions are hardly used. In this article, we extract knowledge from human-generated code to guide evolutionary search. We use a large code-corpus that was mined from the open software repository service GitHub and measure software metrics and properties describing the code-base. We use this knowledge to guide the search by incorporating a new selection scheme. Our new selection scheme favors programs that are structurally similar to the programs in the GitHub code-base. A Study on scale factor in distributed differential evolution.

This paper proposes the employment of multiple scale factor values within distributed differential evolution structures. Four different scale factor schemes are proposed, tested, compared and analyzed. Two schemes simply employ multiple scale factor values and two also include an update logic during the evolution. The four schemes have been integrated for comparison within three recently proposed distributed differential evolution structures and tested on several various test problems. Ces dernières décennies, l’Afrique de l’Est souffre d’une longue et lente détérioration pluviométrique. De 2007 à 2011, la ville de Djibouti a enregistré un déficit de 73% des précipitations moyennes annuelles par rapport à la moyenne de 30 ans (1981-2010). Pour caractériser la sécheresse actuelle, nous analysons une série pluviométrique reconstruite pour Djibouti-Ville de 1901 à 2013, les données de terrain permettant d’illustrer les impacts de ces variations pluviométriques. Les précipitations enregistrées à Djibouti ne présentent aucune tendance sur le long terme (1901-2013).
