Mean ergodicity of weighted composition operators on spaces of holomorphic functions
2016
[EN] Let phi be a self-map of the unit disc D of the complex plane C and let psi be a holomorphic function on D. We investigate the mean ergodicity and power boundedness of the weighted composition operator C-phi,C-psi(f) = psi(f o phi) with symbol phi and multiplier psi on the space H(D). We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the symbol phi and on the multiplier psi which characterize when the weighted composition operator is power bounded and (uniformly) mean ergodic. One necessary condition is that the symbol phi has a fixed point in D. If phi is not a rational rotation, the sufficient conditions are related to the modulus of the multiplier on the fixed point of phi. Some of o…
Conservation Laws and Asymptotic Behavior of a Model of Social Dynamics
2008
Abstract A conservative social dynamics model is developed within a discrete kinetic framework for active particles, which has been proposed in [M.L. Bertotti, L. Delitala, From discrete kinetic and stochastic game theory to modelling complex systems in applied sciences, Math. Mod. Meth. Appl. Sci. 14 (2004) 1061–1084]. The model concerns a society in which individuals, distinguished by a scalar variable (the activity) which expresses their social state, undergo competitive and/or cooperative interactions. The evolution of the discrete probability distribution over the social state is described by a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The asymptotic trend of their solutions…
On the hyperbolicity of certain models of polydisperse sedimentation
2012
The sedimentation of a polydisperse suspension of small spherical particles dispersed in a viscous fluid, where particles belong to N species differing in size, can be described by a strongly coupled system of N scalar, nonlinear first-order conservation laws for the evolution of the volume fractions. The hyperbolicity of this system is a property of theoretical importance because it limits the range of validity of the model and is of practical interest for the implementation of numerical methods. The present work, which extends the results of R. Burger, R. Donat, P. Mulet, and C.A. Vega (SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics 2010; 70:2186–2213), is focused on the fluxes corresponding to the …
Approximate Lax–Wendroff discontinuous Galerkin methods for hyperbolic conservation laws
2017
Abstract The Lax–Wendroff time discretization is an alternative method to the popular total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta time discretization of discontinuous Galerkin schemes for the numerical solution of hyperbolic conservation laws. The resulting fully discrete schemes are known as LWDG and RKDG methods, respectively. Although LWDG methods are in general more compact and efficient than RKDG methods of comparable order of accuracy, the formulation of LWDG methods involves the successive computation of exact flux derivatives. This procedure allows one to construct schemes of arbitrary formal order of accuracy in space and time. A new approximation procedure avoids the computation of ex…
A Polynomial Approach to the Piecewise Hyperbolic Method
2003
In this paper, a local (third-order accurate) shock capturing method for hyperbolic conservation laws is presented. The method has been made with the same idea as the PHM method, but with a simpler reconstruction. A comparison with the classic high order methods is discussed.
Large time behavior for a porous medium equation in a nonhomogeneous medium with critical density
2014
Abstract We study the large time behavior of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the porous medium equation in nonhomogeneous media with critical singular density | x | − 2 ∂ t u = Δ u m , in R N × ( 0 , ∞ ) , where m > 1 and N ≥ 3 , with nonnegative initial condition u ( x , 0 ) = u 0 ( x ) ≥ 0 . The asymptotic behavior proves to have some interesting and striking properties. We show that there are different asymptotic profiles for the solutions, depending on whether the continuous initial data u 0 vanishes at x = 0 or not. Moreover, when u 0 ( 0 ) = 0 , we show the convergence towards a peak-type profile presenting a jump discontinuity, coming from an interesting asymptotic simplification…
Numerical propagator method solutions for the linear parabolic initial boundary-value problems
2007
On the base of our numerical propagator method a new finite volume difference scheme is proposed for solution of linear initial-boundary value problems. Stability of the scheme is investigated taking into account the obtained analytical solution of the initial-boundary value problems. It is shown that stability restrictions for the propagator scheme become weaker in comparison to traditional semi-implicit difference schemes. There are some regions of coefficients, for which the elaborated propagator difference scheme becomes absolutely stable. It is proven that the scheme is unconditionally monotonic. Analytical solutions, which are consistent with solubility conditions of the problem are f…

The exact finite‐difference scheme for vector boundary‐value problems with piece‐wise constant coefficients
1998
We will consider the exact finite‐difference scheme for solving the system of differential equations of second order with piece‐wise constant coefficients. It is well‐known, that the presence of large parameters at first order derivatives or small parameters at second order derivatives in the system of hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations (large Reynolds, Hartmann and others numbers) causes additional difficulties for the applications of general classical numerical methods. Thus, important to work out special methods of solution, the so‐called uniform converging computational methods. This gives a basis for the development of special monotone finite vector‐difference schem…
