Antibacterial drug release from a biphasic gel system: Mathematical modelling

Bacterial infections represent an important drawback in the orthopaedic field, as they can develop either immediately after surgery procedures or after some years. Specifically, in case of implants, they are alleged to be troublesome as their elimination often compels a surgical removal of the infected implant. A possible solution strategy could involve a local coating of the implant by an antibacterial system, which requires to be easily applicable, biocompatible and able to provide the desired release kinetics for the selected antibacterial drug. Modelling of phase boundaries for large industrial FZ silicon crystal growth with the needle-eye technique

In order to facilitate the numerical calculations of the phase boundaries in large industrial floating zone silicon crystal growth with the needle-eye technique, the chain of improved mathematical models is developed. The phase boundaries are solved in a partly transient way and the modelling improvements cover the open melting front, the inner triple point and the free melt surface. The view factors model is applied for the radiative heat transfer. The electromagnetic field is calculated with account of a multiple-slit inductor.

Deviations in pedestrian itineraries in urban areas: a method to assess the role of environmental factors

Walking has long been neglected in urban-mobility research, but it is now making its way into numerous studies using various approaches. Empirical data are often processed in well-known models of flow allocation to study the behaviour of pedestrians and to identify their preferences. However, these models assume that route choices are predetermined at the start of each trip and do not admit any possible intervening decision along these trips. Abstract The present paper adresses the issue of controlling the quality of surface in the case of a new sheet metal forming process by which various curved shells are formed without the help of expensive dies. Residual Stresses due to High Temperature Annealing. Mathematical Model and Calculations

The mathematical model is developed for description of thermomechanical processes at cooling during high temperature annealing with the known initial temperature distribution (the temperature of holding) and stresses (acquired stresses at the final of a holding). It is taken into account the thermal sensitivity and material hardening at elasto-plastic solid deforming. The methodology based on the finite element method is proposed for solving thermomechanics problems of wide range. The suitable software is developed. At the final stage of annealing a cylindrical solid it is investigated residual stresses being formed on the cooling stage.
