Imagen de ciencia de estudiantes de Magisterio
2015
CREAPP K6-12: Tool to evaluate the creative potential of app oriented to the design of personal digital storytelling
2018
An instrument is presented that allows primary school teachers to evaluate the potentiality to develop creativity that have playful online app K6-12 focused on the development of digital storytelling (DST), so they can select those that can be used in the classroom for that purpose. The instrument validated consists of 48 indicators associated with the six dimensions of the creativity: flexibility, originality, fluency, problem solving, elaboration of products and co-edition and dissemination. It was designed based on the opinions of experts in creativity and Information and Communication Technologies of the didactic field, theory of education and methodology; also with the assessments and…
Digital Storytelling in Teacher Training: Development of Basic Competences, Creativity and Multimodal Literacy Through Book Trailers
2018
In this chapter, the need of the integration of media and information and communication technologies in the literary education is addressed, not only from the point of view of the training in access to information and diffusion, but also in terms of the communicative situations of production and reception of literary texts. In this sense, the authors analyze the potential of digital storytelling in teacher training as a tool for the acquisition and development of basics competences, the promotion of creativity and the adquisition of the multimodal literacy of students. This research focuses on the use of book trailers as a way to enhance reading habits acquisition and to make students disco…
An examination of teacher-student interactions in inclusive classrooms: teacher interviews and classroom observations
2013
Teacher–student interactions in 17 inclusive classrooms were examined using a mixed-methods approach that involved quantitative analysis of interactions recorded during classroom observations and follow-up interviews with seven general educators. Observational findings suggest that classrooms were organised along traditional lines with the vast majority of interactions provided by general educators to the whole class, followed by brief intervals of 1 : 1 interactions directed towards individual students, most frequently children with disabilities. Interview findings suggest that teachers were aware of the greater individual attention devoted to students with disabilities and described a num…

A Hypergraph Based Framework for Intelligent Tutoring of Algebraic Reasoning
2013
The translation of word problems into equations is one of the major difficulties for students regarding problem solving. This paper describes both a domain-specific knowledge representation and an inference engine based on hypergraphs that permits intelligent student supervision of this stage of the solving process. The framework presented makes it possible to simultaneously: a) represent all potential algebraic solutions to a given word problem; b) keep track of the student’s actions; c) provide automatic remediation; and d) determine the current state of the resolution process univocally. Starting from these ideas, we have designed an intelligent tutoring system (ITS). An experimental eva…

Researching Classrooms in Search of Learning: Theoretical and Methodological Considerations
2019
The chapter gives a background to research and research traditions on teaching and learning in classrooms. In the post-war period, a large number of research approaches have been developed in order to capture the complexities of classroom life. Much of this research has documented traditional patterns of communication in classrooms that seem to be fairly stable across time and educational systems. The introduction of video documentation provided new means of following and understanding the dynamics of instructional patterns. Video also made it possible to analyze the activities from different perspectives, including how students are able to follow, contribute to and make sense of classroom …
Authenticity in Extra-curricular Mathematics Activities: Researching Authenticity as a Social Construct
2015
In this chapter I study authentic aspects in mathematics education, in particular with respect to mathematical modelling. I define ‘authenticity’ as a social construct, building on the French sociologist Emile Durkheim. For an aspect to be authentic, it needs to have: (1) an out-of-school origin and (2) a certification of originality. The study validates this definition, asking: what authentic aspects can be identified within mathematics education? Data were collected from the excursion Railway Timetable Dynamics. During the excursion secondary school students were exposed to research carried out by university mathematicians on behalf of the National Railway Company. The authentic aspects w…
Comprehensive E-Learning Appraisal System
2019
The healthcare sector in the XXI century presents a big technological development that covers a broad knowledge. All fields of medicine are deepening their knowledge, which increases the volume of material that must be handled by professionals in each specialty. This large volume of material should be taken into account by health professionals, because it contributes to a better quality of care. The traditional way of teaching has been face-to-face classes; however, with rising technologies, virtual training via computers and virtual teachers are being implemented in some institutions. This change in the way of teaching also leads to changes in how to assess the knowledge gained through thi…
