Universal Lyndon Words
2014
A word w over an alphabet Σ is a Lyndon word if there exists an order defined on Σ for which w is lexicographically smaller than all of its conjugates (other than itself). We introduce and study universal Lyndon words, which are words over an n-letter alphabet that have length n! and such that all the conjugates are Lyndon words. We show that universal Lyndon words exist for every n and exhibit combinatorial and structural properties of these words. We then define particular prefix codes, which we call Hamiltonian lex-codes, and show that every Hamiltonian lex-code is in bijection with the set of the shortest unrepeated prefixes of the conjugates of a universal Lyndon word. This allows us t…
McKay natural correspondences on characters
2014
Let [math] be a finite group, let [math] be an odd prime, and let [math] . If [math] , then there is a canonical correspondence between the irreducible complex characters of [math] of degree not divisible by [math] belonging to the principal block of [math] and the linear characters of [math] . As a consequence, we give a characterization of finite groups that possess a self-normalizing Sylow [math] -subgroup or a [math] -decomposable Sylow normalizer.
On the supersoluble hypercentre of a finite group
2016
[EN] We give some sufficient conditions for a normal p-subgroup P of a finite group G to have every G-chief factor below it cyclic. The S-permutability of some p-subgroups of O^p(G)plays an important role. Some known results can be reproved and some others appear as corollaries of our main theorems.
On self-normalising subgroups of finite groups
2010
[EN] The aim of this paper is to characterise the classes of groups in which every subnormal subgroup is normal, permutable, or S-permutable by the embedding of the subgroups (respectively, subgroups of prime power order) in their normal, permutable, or S-permutable closure, respectively.
On a graph related to permutability in finite groups
2010
For a finite group G we define the graph $\Gamma(G)$ to be the graph whose vertices are the conjugacy classes of cyclic subgroups of G and two conjugacy classes $\{\mathcal {A}, \mathcal {B}\}$ are joined by an edge if for some $\{A \in \mathcal {A},\, B \in \mathcal {B}\, A\}$ and B permute. We characterise those groups G for which $\Gamma(G)$ is complete.
Fitting classes and lattice formations I
2004
AbstractA lattice formation is a class of groups whose elements are the direct product of Hall subgroups corresponding to pairwise disjoint sets of primes. In this paper Fitting classes with stronger closure properties involving F-subnormal subgroups, for a lattice formation F of full characteristic, are studied. For a subgroup-closed saturated formation G, a characterisation of the G-projectors of finite soluble groups is also obtained. It is inspired by the characterisation of the Carter subgroups as the N-projectors, N being the class of nilpotent groups.
THE STRUCTURE OF MUTUALLY PERMUTABLE PRODUCTS OF FINITE NILPOTENT GROUPS
2007
We consider mutually permutable products G = AB of two nilpotent groups. The structure of the Sylow p-subgroups of its nilpotent residual is described.
Symplectic automorphisms of prime order on K3 surfaces
2006
The aim of this paper is to study algebraic K3 surfaces (defined over the complex number field) with a symplectic automorphism of prime order. In particular we consider the action of the automorphism on the second cohomology with integer coefficients. We determine the invariant sublattice and its perpendicular complement, and show that the latter coincides with the Coxeter-Todd lattice in the case of automorphism of order three. We also compute many explicit examples, with particular attention to elliptic fibrations.
On a Class of Generalized Nilpotent Groups
2002
AbstractWe explore the class B of generalized nilpotent groups in the universe c[formula] of all radical locally finite groups satisfying min-p for every prime p. We obtain that this class is the natural generalization of the class of finite nilpotent groups from the finite universe to the universe c[formula]. Moreover, the structure of B-groups is determined explicitly. It is also shown that B is a subgroup-closed c[formula]-formation and that in every c[formula]-group the Fitting subgroup is the unique maximal normal B-subgroup.
A note on strongly Lie nilpotency
1991
In this note the authors studies strongly Lie nilpotent rings and proves that if a ringR is strongly Lie nilpotent thenR(2), the ideal generated by all commutators, is nilpotent.
