The snail lemma for internal groupoids

2019

Abstract We establish a generalized form both of the Gabriel-Zisman exact sequence associated with a pointed functor between pointed groupoids, and of the Brown exact sequence associated with a fibration of pointed groupoids. Our generalization consists in replacing pointed groupoids with groupoids internal to a pointed regular category with reflexive coequalizers.

Discretization of harmonic measures for foliated bundles

2012

We prove in this note that there is, for some foliated bundles, a bijective correspondance between Garnett's harmonic measures and measures on the fiber that are stationary for some probability measure on the holonomy group. As a consequence, we show the uniqueness of the harmonic measure in the case of some foliations transverse to projective fiber bundles.

Some fourth order CY-type operators with non symplectically rigid monodromy

2012

We study tuples of matrices with rigidity index two in $\Sp_4(\mathbb{C})$, which are potentially induced by differential operators of Calabi-Yau type. The constructions of those monodromy tuples via algebraic operations and middle convolutions and the related constructions on the level differential operators lead to previously known and new examples.

Homological Projective Duality for Determinantal Varieties

2016

In this paper we prove Homological Projective Duality for crepant categorical resolutions of several classes of linear determinantal varieties. By this we mean varieties that are cut out by the minors of a given rank of a n x m matrix of linear forms on a given projective space. As applications, we obtain pairs of derived-equivalent Calabi-Yau manifolds, and address a question by A. Bondal asking whether the derived category of any smooth projective variety can be fully faithfully embedded in the derived category of a smooth Fano variety. Moreover we discuss the relation between rationality and categorical representability in codimension two for determinantal varieties.

Deformations of Calabi-Yau manifolds in Fano toric varieties

2020

In this article, we investigate deformations of a Calabi-Yau manifold $Z$ in a toric variety $F$, possibly not smooth. In particular, we prove that the forgetful morphism from the Hilbert functor $H^F_Z$ of infinitesimal deformations of $Z$ in $F$ to the functor of infinitesimal deformations of $Z$ is smooth. This implies the smoothness of $H^F_Z $ at the corresponding point in the Hilbert scheme. Moreover, we give some examples and include some computations on the Hodge numbers of Calabi-Yau manifolds in Fano toric varieties.

On the Energy of Distributions, with Application to the Quaternionic Hopf Fibrations

2001

The energy of an oriented q-distribution ? in a compact oriented manifold M is defined to be the energy of the section of the Grassmannian manifold of oriented q-planes in M induced by ?. In the Grassmannian, the Sasaki metric is considered. We show here a condition for a distribution to be a critical point of the energy functional. In the spheres, we see that Hopf fibrations \(\) are critical points. Later, we prove the instability for these fibrations.

A criterion for homeomorphism between closed Haken manifolds

2003

In this paper we consider two connected closed Haken manifolds denoted by M^3 and N^3, with the same Gromov simplicial volume. We give a simple homological criterion to decide when a given map f: M^3-->N^3 between M^3 and N^3 can be changed by a homotopy to a homeomorphism. We then give a convenient process for constructing maps between M^3 and N^3 satisfying the homological hypothesis of the map f.

Round-handle decomposition ofS2×S1

2007

A round-handle decomposition is associated with a non-singular Morse–Smale flow on 3-manifolds prime to S 2× S 1. This decomposition has been built only for the 3-sphere S 3. In this paper we obtain the round-handle decomposition of non-singular Morse–Smale flows on S 2× S 1, in order to get all the different fattened round handles in this manifold. Some of them include non-separating boundary components that induce the topology of the links of periodic orbits.

Some remarks concerning Nambu mechanics

1996

The structure of Nambu-Poisson brackets is studied and we establish that any Nambu tensor is decomposable. We show that every Nambu-Poisson manifold admits a local foliation by canonical Nambu-Poisson manifolds. Finally, a cohomology for Nambu (Lie) algebras which is adapted to the study of formal deformations of Nambu structures is introduced.

An Introduction to Hodge Structures

2015

We begin by introducing the concept of a Hodge structure and give some of its basic properties, including the Hodge and Lefschetz decompositions. We then define the period map, which relates families of Kahler manifolds to the families of Hodge structures defined on their cohomology, and discuss its properties. This will lead us to the more general definition of a variation of Hodge structure and the Gauss-Manin connection. We then review the basics about mixed Hodge structures with a view towards degenerations of Hodge structures; including the canonical extension of a vector bundle with connection, Schmid’s limiting mixed Hodge structure and Steenbrink’s work in the geometric setting.
