A fast 3D BEM for anisotropic elasticity based on hierarchical matrices

In this paper a fast solver for three-dimensional anisotropic elasticity BEM problems is developed. The technique is based on the use of hierarchical matrices for the representation of the collocation matrix and uses a preconditioned GMRES for the solution of the algebraic system of equations. The preconditioner is built exploiting the hierarchical arithmetic and taking full advantage of the hierarchical format. The application of hierarchical matrices to the BEM solution of anisotropic elasticity problems has been numerically demonstrated highlighting both accuracy and efficiency leading to almost linear computational complexity.

The technique is based on the use of hierarchical matrices for the representation of the collocation matrix for each value of the Laplace parameter of interest and uses a preconditioned GMRES for the solution of the algebraic system of equations. The preconditioner is built exploiting the hierarchical arithmetic and taking full advantage of the hierarchical format. An original strategy for speeding up the overall analysis is presented and tested. The reported numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique.

Gradings on the algebra of upper triangular matrices and their graded identities

Abstract Let K be an infinite field and let UT n ( K ) denote the algebra of n × n upper triangular matrices over  K . We describe all elementary gradings on this algebra. Further we describe the generators of the ideals of graded polynomial identities of UT n ( K ) and we produce linear bases of the corresponding relatively free graded algebras. We prove that one can distinguish the elementary gradings by their graded identities. We describe bases of the graded polynomial identities in several “typical” cases. Although in these cases we consider elementary gradings by cyclic groups, the same methods serve for elementary gradings by any finite group.

International audience; In order to determine the feasibility of the solvent assisted flavour evaporation extraction (SAFE) technique and the standard addition method to quantify the aroma compounds retained in baked matrices after processing, three doughs that mainly vary in one ingredient, M1 (with eggs and palm oil), M2 (without eggs but with palm oil) and M3 (without eggs and without palm oil) were flavoured with an aromatic formulation of 19 different aroma compounds in propylene glycol that is responsible for a viennoiserie aromatic note. Circular law for sparse random regular digraphs

Fix a constant $C\geq 1$ and let $d=d(n)$ satisfy $d\leq \ln^{C} n$ for every large integer $n$. Denote by $A_n$ the adjacency matrix of a uniform random directed $d$-regular graph on $n$ vertices. We show that, as long as $d\to\infty$ with $n$, the empirical spectral distribution of appropriately rescaled matrix $A_n$ converges weakly in probability to the circular law. This result, together with an earlier work of Cook, completely settles the problem of weak convergence of the empirical distribution in directed $d$-regular setting with the degree tending to infinity. The Links-Gould invariants as generalizations of the Alexander polynomial

In this thesis we focus on the connections that exist between two link invariants: first the Alexander-Conway invariant ∆ that was the first polynomial link invariant to be discovered, and one of the most thoroughly studied since alongside with the Jones polynomial, and on the other hand the family of Links-Gould invariants LGn,m that are quantum link invariants derived from super Hopf algebras Uqgl(n|m). We prove a case of the De Wit-Ishii-Links conjecture: in some cases we can recover powers of the Alexander polynomial as evaluations of the Links-Gould invariants. Role of the Netrin-like Domain of Procollagen C-Proteinase Enhancer-1 in the Control of Metalloproteinase Activity

The netrin-like (NTR) domain is a feature of several extracellular proteins, most notably the N-terminal domain of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), where it functions as a strong inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases and some other members of the metzincin superfamily. The presence of a C-terminal NTR domain in procollagen C-proteinase enhancers (PCPEs), proteins that stimulate the activity of astacin-like tolloid proteinases, raises the possibility that this might also have inhibitory activity. A recap on Linear Mixed Models and their hat-matrices

This working paper has a twofold goal. On one hand, it provides a recap of Linear Mixed Models (LMMs): far from trying to be exhaustive, this first part of the working paper focusses on the derivation of theoretical results on estimation of LMMs that are scattered in the literature or whose mathematical derivation is sometimes missing or too quickly sketched. On the other hand, it discusses various definitions that are available in the literature for the hat-matrix of Linear Mixed Models, showing their limitations and proving their equivalence.

Effect of Oral Physiology Parameters on In-Mouth Aroma Compound Release Using Lipoprotein Matrices: An In Vitro Approach

Temporal aroma compound release during eating is a function of the physicochemical properties of the food matrix, aroma compounds, and oral physiology of individuals. However, the influence of each parameter on the release of each aroma component should be clarified. Two flavored lipoprotein matrices varying in composition were chewed in a chewing simulator that reproduced most of the physiological functions of the mouth.
