Abstract Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer and the third most common cause of cancer related mortality in men in the United States. Hormonal therapy remains the most effective therapy for patients with advanced prostate cancer, inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis in tumor cells. Unfortunately, after short-term remissions (18–24 months), surviving tumor cells recur with castrate resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with inevitable progression, development of metastases mainly in bone, and death within 2–3 years in most men. Background: Acute stroke treatment is a time-critical process in which every minute counts. Laboratory biomarkers are needed to aid clinical decisions in the diagnosis. Shift Work and Prostate Cancer Incidence in Industrial Workers

In 2007 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified shift work involving circadian disruption as a probable human carcinogen (1). Most of the evidence for this is based on animal experiment models and only a few reliable epidemiological studies. The cancer best described to date is breast cancer; this has mainly been investigated in female nurses and flight attendants (2, 3). Shift work can also increase the incidence of prostate cancer, as plausibly described in a review article published in 2012 (4). Linear and nonlinear optical properties of some organoxenon derivatives

We employ a series of state-of-the-art computational techniques to study the effect of inserting one or more Xe atoms in HC2H and HC4H, on the linear and nonlinear optical (L&NLO) properties of the resulting compounds. It has been found that the inserted Xe has a great effect on the L&NLO properties of the organoxenon derivatives. We analyze the bonding in HXeC2H, and the change of the electronic structure, which is induced by inserting Xe, in order to rationalize the observed extraordinary L&NLO properties. Minimal Learning Machine (MLM) is a distance-based supervised machine learning method for classification and regression problems. Its main advances are simple formulation and fast learning. Computing the MLM prediction in regression requires a solution to the optimization problem, which is determined by the input and output distance matrix mappings. Hybrid electric vehicle powertrain design: Construction of topologies and initial design schemes

This paper introduces the generic representation and construction methods for the architectures of the four-wheel-drive hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain, which achieve the unified rules to represent and construct all types of HEV powertrains. To map the architecture into numerical variables and add it into optimization, the kinematic matrix of the HEV powertrain is extracted corresponding to the topological structure. Based on the torque distribution requirement of four-wheel-drive HEV, the initial design schemes (architecture and parameters) are created by charge-under-go feasibility inspection.

Quantification of rifampicin and rifabutin in plasma of tuberculosis patients by micellar liquid chromatography

A Micellar Liquid Chromatographic method is described to determine Rifampicin and Rifabutin in plasma from Tuberculosis patients. Samples were diluted in mobile phase and then directly injected, avoiding long and tedious extraction steps. The analytes were resolved from the matrix without interferences from endogenous compounds using a mobile phase of sodium dodecyl sulfate 0.15 mol L-1–6%(v/v) 1-pentanol and phosphate buffer at pH 3, running at 1 mL min−1 through a C18 column at 25 °C. Detection was carried out by UV absorbance at 270 nm. Under these conditions, the final chromatographic analysis time was 22 min.
