Ejection and collision orbits of the spatial restricted three-body problem

1985

We begin by describing the global flow of the spatial two body rotating problem, μ=0. The remainder of the work is devoted to study the ejection and collision orbits when μ>-0. We make use of the ‘blow up’ techniques to show that for any fixed value of the Jacobian constant the set of these orbits is diffeomorphic to S2×R. Also we find some particular collision-ejection orbits.

Closed form coefficients in the Symmetric Boundary Element Approach

2006

Abstract In the area of the structural analysis, the problems connected to the use of the symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method (SGBEM) must be investigated especially in the mathematical and computational difficulties that are present in computing the solving system coefficients. Indeed, any coefficient is made by double integrals including often fundamental solutions having a high degree of singularity. Therefore, the related computation proves to be difficult in the solution. This paper suggests a simple computation technique of the coefficients obtained in closed form. Using a particular matrix, called ‘progenitor’ matrix [Panzeca T, Cucco F, Terravecchia S. Symmetric boundary elem…

Conformal measures for multidimensional piecewise invertible maps

2001

Given a piecewise invertible map T:X\to X and a weight g:X\rightarrow\ ]0,\infty[ , a conformal measure \nu is a probability measure on X such that, for all measurable A\subset X with T:A\to TA invertible, \nu(TA)= \lambda \int_{A}\frac{1}{g}\ d\nu with a constant \lambda>0 . Such a measure is an essential tool for the study of equilibrium states. Assuming that the topological pressure of the boundary is small, that \log g has bounded distortion and an irreducibility condition, we build such a conformal measure.

Solving coupled Riccati matrix differential systems

1991

Abstract We start by noting that coupled Riccati matrix differential systems appearing in differential games may be considered as a single rectangular Riccati equation. An explicit solution of the coupled differential system in terms of a solution of the associated algebraic Riccati equation is given.

Norm estimates for operators from Hp to ℓq

2008

Abstract We give upper and lower estimates of the norm of a bounded linear operator from the Hardy space H p to l q in terms of the norm of the rows and the columns of its associated matrix in certain vector-valued sequence spaces.

Nonlocal elasticity and related variational principles

2001

Abstract The Eringen model of nonlocal elasticity is considered and its implications in solid mechanics studied. The model is refined by assuming an attenuation function depending on the `geodetical distance' between material particles, such that in the diffusion processes of the nonlocality effects certain obstacles as holes or cracks existing in the domain can be circumvented. A suitable thermodynamic framework with nonlocality is also envisaged as a firm basis of the model. The nonlocal elasticity boundary-value problem for infinitesimal displacements and quasi-static loads is addressed and the conditions for the solution uniqueness are established. Three variational principles, nonlocal…

Identification of stiffness, dissipation and input parameters of randomly excited non-linear systems: Capability of restricted potential models (RPM)

2006

Abstract A dynamic identification technique in the time domain for time invariant systems under random external forces is presented. This technique is based on the use of the class of restricted potential models (RPM), which are characterized by a non-linear stiffness and a special form of damping, that is a product of the input power spectral density (PSD) matrix and the velocity gradient of a non-linear function of the total mechanical energy. By applying It o ^ stochastic differential calculus and by specific analytical manipulations, some algebraic equations, depending on the response statistics and on the mechanic parameters that characterize RPM, are obtained. These equations can be u…

Machine learning for rapid mapping of archaeological structures made of dry stones – Example of burial monuments from the Khirgisuur culture, Mongoli…

2020

11 pages; International audience; The present study proposes a workflow to extract from orthomosaics the enormous amount of dry stones used by past societies to construct funeral complexes in the Mongolian steppes. Several different machine learning algorithms for binary pixel classification (i.e. stone vs non-stone) were evaluated. Input features were extracted from high-resolution orthomosaics and digital elevation models (both derived from aerial imaging). Comparative analysis used two colour spaces (RGB and HSV), texture features (contrast, homogeneity and entropy raster maps), and the topographic position index, combined with nine supervised learning algorithms (nearest centroid, naive…

Effect of nitrogen limitation and nature of the feed upon Oenococcus oeni metabolism and extracellular protein production

2005

Aims:  The aim of the study was to characterize the effect of various nitrogen sources on Oenococcus oeni growth, carbon source utilization, extracellular protease activity and extracellular proteins. More generally, the goal is to understand how nitrogen-based additives might act to enhance malolactic fermentation in wine. Methods and Results:  Five yeast extracts were used. As the amino acid and nitrogen analyses revealed, they were similar in global amino acid composition, except for arginine level. Nevertheless the ratio of amino acids between free/bound, and low/high molecular weight fractions were highly different. One of the yeast extracts led to a significant protease activity in th…

Matrix-isolation and ab initio study of the complex between formic acid and xenon

2012

Abstract We report on the identification of the complexes of formic acid (FA) and Xe in an argon matrix. The geometries, interaction energies, reaction barriers, and vibrational spectra of the FA⋯Xe complexes are calculated at the MP2 level of theory. The calculations reveal four structures for the trans-FA⋯Xe complex and four structures for the cis-FA⋯Xe complex. In the experiments, two structures of the trans-FA⋯Xe complex are observed after deposition of FA/Xe/Ar matrices, with and without OH⋯Xe interaction (H-bonded and non-H-bonded structures). The cis-FA⋯Xe complex was synthesized by vibrational excitation of the non-H-bonded trans-FA⋯Xe complex. The non-H-bonded and H-bonded structur…
