Robust l2-gain control for 2D nonlinear stochastic systems with time-varying delays and actuator saturation

Abstract This paper is concerned with the problems of stability analysis and l2-gain control for a class of two-dimensional (2D) nonlinear stochastic systems with time-varying delays and actuator saturation. Firstly, a convex hull representation is used to describe the saturation behavior, and a sufficient condition for the existence of mean-square exponential stability of the considered system is derived. Strong Cooperativity and Loose Geometry between CUB Domains Are the Basis for Procollagen C-Proteinase Enhancer Activity

Procollagen C-proteinase enhancers (PCPE-1 and -2) specifically activate bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP-1) and other members of the tolloid proteinase family during C-terminal processing of fibrillar collagen precursors. PCPEs consist of two CUB domains (CUB1 and CUB2) and one NTR domain separated by one short and one long linker. It was previously shown that PCPEs can strongly interact with procollagen molecules, but the exact mechanism by which they enhance BMP-1 activity remains largely unknown. Effects of confinement level, cross-section shape and corner radius on the cyclic behavior of CFRCM confined concrete columns

Abstract The main results of an experimental research aiming to investigate the behavior of medium-size low-strength concrete columns wrapped with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (CFRCM) under monotonic and cyclic compressive axial loads are presented. Example of a technique for evaluation of interferences caused by complicated sample matrix elements in ICP-AES determination

An example of a useful and rapid procedure for the evaluation of interferences caused by complicated sample matrices in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) is described. Using simple acid-base standards, all the elements investigated were determined separately in complicated matrices with satisfactory results. Multiple linear regression was used to calculate the linear correction coefficients for each matrix element analyzed. Good analytical results improved still further when this correction method was used.

Information and hierarchical structure in financial markets

I investigate the information content present in the time series of stock prices of a portfolio of stocks traded in a financial market. By investigating the correlation coefficient between pairs of stocks I provide a working definition of a generalized distance between the stocks of the portfolio. This generalized distance is used to obtain an ultrametric distance matrix between the stocks. The ultrametric structure of the portfolio investigated has associated a taxonomy which is meaningful from an economic point of view.

Evolution of Worldwide Stock Markets, Correlation Structure and Correlation Based Graphs

We investigate the daily correlation present among market indices of stock exchanges located all over the world in the time period Jan 1996 - Jul 2009. We discover that the correlation among market indices presents both a fast and a slow dynamics. The slow dynamics reflects the development and consolidation of globalization. The fast dynamics is associated with critical events that originate in a specific country or region of the world and rapidly affect the global system. Application of alternating projection method to ensure feasibility of shadowing cross-correlation models

A novel procedure based on the alternating projection method to adjust experimental shadowing cross-correlation (SCC) matrices is proposed. Given an SCC matrix derived from any experimental model, this procedure finds the nearest diagonalisable correlation matrix. This adjustment allows a proper simulation of shadowing samples, since it produces correlation matrices for which Cholesky factorisation is feasible. Simulation results using this procedure for three different SCC models are compared and discussed.

Cajal–Retzius and subplate cells: transient cortical neurons and circuits with long-term impact

Abstract The laminar and columnar organization of the mature cerebral cortex is determined by a variety of early developmental processes. Two distinct populations of early generated neurons play important roles in corticogenesis. Cajal–Retzius neurons, located in the marginal zone (later layer 1), control the formation of neocortical layers by releasing the extracellular matrix protein reelin, which serves as a guiding signal for migrating neurons. Subplate neurons in the lower neocortical layer play an active role in axonal pathfinding of thalamocortical connections and in transient synaptic circuits, influence early cortical plasticity and the maturation of the columnar architecture.
