In contrast to the masses of data on obesity, few data are available concerning the cardiometabolic and oxidative consequences of moderate overweight. The model of postnatal overfeeding (OF) induces an increase in body weight at weaning that remains during adult life. Litters of Wistar rats were either maintained at 12 pups (normal-fed group, NF), or reduced to 3 pups at birth in order to induce OF. At 6 months of age, metabolic parameters, circulating oxidative stress and aortic and coronary vasoreactivity were assessed. Mapping the network of pathways of CO diffusion in myoglobin.

The pathways of diffusion of a CO molecule inside a myoglobin protein and toward the solvent are investigated. Specifically, the three-dimensional potential of mean force (PMF or free energy) of the CO molecule position inside the protein is calculated by using the single-sweep method in concert with fully resolved atomistic simulations in explicit solvent. The results are interpreted under the assumption that the diffusion of the ligand can be modeled as a navigation on the PMF in which the ligand hops between the PMF local minima following the minimum free energy paths (MFEPs) with rates set by the free energy barriers that need to be crossed. AbstractLeptin, a hormone produced by adipose tissue, has been linked to many regulatory pathways. Its role in the complex relationship between obesity and CVD is not yet clear. Linear discriminant analysis has been demonstrated to be a very useful tool in the selection and design of new drugs. Up to now we have used it through the search of a topological pattern of activity. In this work our goal is to calculate a complete set of physicochemical parameters using semiempirical (quantum chemical) calculations as well as topological indices (TIs) and try to find out any discriminant function for antibacterial activity through the combined use of both types of descriptors. Theoretical study of the electronic spectrum of magnesium-porphyrin

Multiconfigurational self-consistent field (SCF) and second order perturbation methods have been used to study the electronic spectrum of magnesium-porphyrin (MgP). An extended ANO-type basis set including polarization functions on all heavy atoms has been used. Four allowed singlet states of E1u symmetry have been computed and in addition a number of forbidden transitions and a few triplet states. The results lead to a consistent interpretation of the electronic spectrum, where the Q band contains one transition, the B band two, and the N band one. An MO study of neutral C8 high-symmetry clusters

Abstract Highly symmetric octacarbon clusters, i.e. a cube (O h ), a twisted cube (T d ), a tricyclic cage (C 3v ) and a planar (D 4h ) structure, were fully optimized at the HF, B3LYP and MP2(Full) levels of theory. These stationary points were shown to be local minima on the potential energy surface by frequency calculations. The stability of these clusters compared to the cyclic planar (C 4h ) ground state was found to be strongly dependent on the level of theory. MP2(Full) calculations suggest that cubic C 8 is a local minimum, its energy being 273 kJ/mol higher than the ground state. Structural parameters and fundamental vibrations are presented.

Spectral investigation of spin echo emission

Abstract The spectral content of the echo radiation emitted after a two-pulse sequence is measured in a two-level spin system. The spectral profiles exhibit maxima and zeroes of spectral density depending on the exciting sequence parameters. A calculation based on a vectorial model relates the zeroes to those packets that happen to be transparent to the second (refocusing) pulse. Moreover we report on a new spectral narrowing effect which we tentatively ascribe to the instantaneous diffusion.
Neighbor-Distinguishing k-tuple Edge-Colorings of Graphs

AbstractThis paper studies proper k-tuple edge-colorings of graphs that distinguish neighboring vertices by their sets of colors. Minimum numbers of colors for such colorings are determined for cycles, complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. A variation in which the color sets assigned to edges have to form cyclic intervals is also studied and similar results are given.
Relaxation for a Class of Control Systems with Unilateral Constraints

We consider a nonlinear control system involving a maximal monotone map and with a priori feedback. We assume that the control constraint multifunction $U(t,x)$ is nonconvex valued and only lsc in the $x \in \mathbb{R}^{N}$ variable. Using the Q-regularization (in the sense of Cesari) of $U(t,\cdot )$, we introduce a relaxed system. We show that this relaxation process is admissible.
