Studies on a measles virus variant inducing persistent infections in cultured cells
1976
Attempts were made to characterized by a plaque assay two variants of the Edmonston strain of measles virus and to obtain plaque purified virus populations. The UP non-cytocidal variant, in all the examined cell systems, mainly produced small but also large plaques; the DP cytocidal variant always large plaques. Three clones, UP-SP4, UP-LP4 and DP-LP4, were derived by plaque purfication respectively of the UP small plaque, UP large plaque and DP large plaque forming particles. The virus populations of the clones could be distinguished by some other biological and physical characters: cytopathic effect in roller tube cultures, growth potential in HeLa cells, thermal stability at 45 degrees C…

Neurotropism in newborn hamsters of plaque purified measles virus clones
1976
Three plaque purified measles virus clones displayed a different neurotropism in newborn hamsters.
Relevanz von Infektionskrankheiten in einer Kinderarztpraxis
1993
According to official statistics, infectious diseases only play a minor role in German children. To test this assumption, 1685/3405 charts of a private pediatrician were randomly chosen for further evaluation. 1112/1685 children had been seen in the office during the study period, 934 of them because of an infectious disease (83%). 700/934 charts were further reviewed in a standardized fashion. Pharyngo-tonsillitis was the most frequent diagnosis (18.6%), followed by (non-obstructive) bronchitis (18.5%), infectious diseases of the skin (10.2%) and Otitis media (9.9%). Typical "childhood diseases" (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella) only played a minor role. For some diseases age-specific a…
Inhibition of growth of measles virus by mycoplasma in cell-cultures and the restoring effect of arginine
1970
Presence of mycoplasma in MK cell cultures caused an inhibition of measles virus, as revealed by a lower plating efficiency. When arginine is supplemented to the cell-system, mycoplasma contaminated cells yield plaque titers as high as those of uncontaminated cells. The essential role of arginine for plaque formation of measles virus is suggested also by experiments in which arginine added to the agar overlay restored the plating efficiency of measles virus in cultures maintained in a minimal nutrient medium.
On the hemagglutinating and hemolytic activity of measles virus variants.
1967
The hemagglutinating (HA) and hemolytic (HL) activity of two measles virus variants, differing with regard to type of CPE and other characteristics, have been investigated.
Modelling and assessing public health policies to counteract Italian measles outbreaks
2021
This study aims to understand, through explanatory research, the key factors that led to the 2017 measles outbreak in Italy, the causes of the low level of immunisation and the causes of possible cyclical phenomena of measles epidemics. This topic's comprehension has required a holistic approach, merging epidemiological aspects, socioeconomic aspects (including the evolution of mistrust in vaccinations, infodemy and fake news) and health law constraints. A specific SIR System Dynamics (SD) model was built to reproduce the relevant cause-and-effect relationships between social interactions, the public institutions behaviour and the measles outbreaks. SD results permit the assessment of the h…
Lack of Good Governance or hazard of consumers e-Health? Evidence through a dynamic outcome based-performance in the Italian healthcare sector about …
This research aims to analyse the management of the health policies to contain the measles outbreaks in Italy. In particular, this study wants to find out what are the key factors that led to the measles outbreak of 2017 and its previous cyclical trend, analysing the impact of ehealth strategy in the management of the epidemics. Understanding the complexity of this issue will help to evaluate the actual policies of the Italian Ministry of Healthcare and to steer the policy-makers to frame sustainable policies to manage the risk of a measles outbreak. The thesis is structured in four chapters. The first chapter, through a literature review, discusses the evolution of the management of epidem…
