Control of Exchange Interactions in Trinuclear Complexes Based on Orthogonal Magnetic Orbitals

The reaction of copper(II) acetate with the tetradentate Schiff base like ligand H4L {(E,E)-[{diethyl 2,2′-[4,5-dihydroxy-1,2-phenylenebis(iminomethylidyne)]bis(3-oxobutanoate)}] leads to the formation of the square planar N2O2 coordinated complex [H2CuL]. Reaction of two equivalents of this complex with copper(II) acetylacetonato or vanadyl(IV) acetylacetonato yields the trinuclear complexes [V(O)Cu2L2][N(nBu)4]2·2MeOH (1) and [Cu3L2][N(nBu)4]2·2DMF (2). Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the interobserver and intraobserver agreement of three-dimensional contrast-enhanced ultrasound (3D-CEUS) volume calculations of focal liver lesions (FLLs).Methods: Thirty-nine patients (15 men and 24 women; mean age, 55.4 years) with 39 Flis (mean size, 3.1 +/- 1.8 cm; size range, 1 to 8 cm) prospectively underwent 3D-CEUS. Four readers calculated the volume of each lesion in an independent and blinded fashion in two separate sessions by means of a semi-automatic, commercially available proprietary software. This work reports on the structural and spectroscopic properties of ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers (1) in Langmuir-Scha¨fer (LS) thin films by combining scanning force microscopy (SFM) with film balance, UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, and nanosecond laser flash photolysis measurements. Results show that depending on the surface pressure the Langmuir films of pure 1 can be arranged in two different condensed phases, whereas SFM of the LS films shows characteristic fractal networks constituted by nanoscopic aggregates. Lanthanoid single-ion magnets based on polyoxometalates with a 5-fold symmetry: The series [LnP5W30O110]12– (Ln3+ = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb)

A robust, stable and processable family of mononuclear lanthanoid complexes based on polyoxometalates (POMs) that exhibit single-molecule magnetic behavior is described here. Preyssler polyanions of general formula [LnP 5W 30O 110] 12- (Ln 3+ = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb) have been characterized with static and dynamic magnetic measurements and heat capacity experiments. For the Dy and Ho derivatives, slow relaxation of the magnetization has been found. A simple interpretation of these properties is achieved by using crystal field theory. © 2012 American Chemical Society.

Effects of some isoxazolpyrimidine derivatives on nitric oxide and eicosanoid biosynthesis

Abstract The inhibitory effect of some isoxazolpyrimidine derivatives on iNOS and COX-2 endotoxin induction in mouse peritoneal macrophages has been studied. Three of these compounds inhibited nitrite and PGE2 accumulation in a concentration dependent-manner at μM range. None of these active compounds affected iNOS, COX-2, COX-1 or PLA2 activities, although some reduced iNOS or COX-2 expression. Besides, no effect was observed on human neutrophil inflammatory responses (LTB4 biosynthesis and Superoxide or elastase release). Active compounds were assayed by oral administration in the mouse air pouch model, where they inhibited nitrite accumulation without affecting PGE 2 levels or leukocyte …
