4-dimethylamino-3′,4′-dimethoxychalcone downregulates iNOS expression and exerts anti-inflammatory effects

2001

Abstract Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species contribute to the pathophysiology of inflammatory conditions. We have studied the effects of a novel superoxide scavenger, 4-dimethylamino-3′,4′-dimethoxychalcone (CH11) in macrophages and in vivo. CH11 has been shown to inhibit the chemiluminescence induced by zymosan in mouse peritoneal macrophages and the cytotoxic effects of superoxide. In the same cells, the modulation by superoxide of nitric oxide (NO) production in response to zymosan was investigated. CH11 was more effective than the membrane-permeable scavenger Tiron for inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein expression and nitrite production. We have shown that CH…

Azapropazone binding to human serum albumin

1980

Azapropazone, a new non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug, is strongly bound to human serum albumin. As revealed by Scatchard analysis, one high-affinity binding site with an association constant of about 1.2 x 10(6)M-1 and two low-affinity binding sites with association constants of about 0.05 x 10(6)M-1 were found. While the high-affinity binding site of azapropazone is clearly not identical with the diazepam or digitoxin binding sites of human serum albumin, contradictory evidence was found by optical measurements and displacement studies for the similarity of the azapropazone and the warfarin binding site of human serum albumin. At present, it is suggested that both drugs bind to differen…

Comparison between probe stagnation point heat flux measurements and correlation formulas in SCIROCCO plasma wind tunnel tests

2012

A large part of the SCIROCCO Arc Heater Performance Map has been investigated. The heat flux measurements at the stagnation point of t he facility Calibratio Probe have been used to find an experimental fit. Such a formula ha s been compared with the predictions of the De Filippis-Serpico equation and the well known Fay-Riddell formula. Finally the experimental fit has been also compared with the Sa gner-Verant formula obtained at the ONERA F4 hypersonic plasma wind tunnel.

A laboratory cave for the study of wall degradation in rock art caves : an implementation in the Vézère area

2013

The aim of this proposal is to present an original approach to the study and preservation of rock art caves. A multidisciplinary study of cave wall alteration will be performed to understand the impact of environmental context on the evolution of wall surfaces. The approach involves the choice of a cave with characteristics similar to painted caves in the studied area (Vézère Valley in Dordogne, France): e.g., cave wall alteration, lithology, morphology, etc. This selected cave is intended to become a laboratory cave, monitored for the acquisition of chemical, physical and biological environmental data on bedrock, air and fluids along with their characteristics. A cave without art or archae…

An Improved Load Flow Method for MV Networks Based on LV Load Measurements and Estimations

2019

A novel measurement approach for power-flow analysis in medium-voltage (MV) networks, based on load power measurements at low-voltage level in each secondary substation (SS) and only one voltage measurement at the MV level at primary substation busbars, was proposed by the authors in previous works. In this paper, the method is improved to cover the case of temporary unavailability of load power measurements in some SSs. In particular, a new load power estimation method based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) is proposed. The method uses historical data to train the ANNs and the real-time available measurements to obtain the load estimations. The load-flow algorithm is applied with the e…

Aryl azides formation under mild conditions: a kinetic study in some ionic liquid solutions.

2009

The kinetics of nucleophilic aromatic substitution of three nitrothiophene derivatives in different [1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium][N(3)]/ionic liquid binary mixtures was studied spectrophotometrically at 298 K. Ionic liquids differing for cation structure (imidazolium or pyrrolidinium) and for size, shape, and coordination ability of the anion ([BF(4)(-)], [PF(6)(-)], [SbF(6)(-)], and [NTf(2)(-)]) were used. Furthermore, in order to have a comparison with conventional organic solvents, the target reaction was also carried out in DMF solution at increasing concentration of NaN(3) or [bmim][N(3)]. Data collected show that the reaction occurs faster in DMF than in ionic liquid solution. Further…

Atmospheric neutrinos in ice and measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters

2010

The main goal of the IceCube Deep Core array is to search for neutrinos of astrophysical origins. Atmospheric neutrinos are commonly considered as a background for these searches. We show that the very high statistics atmospheric neutrino data can be used to obtain precise measurements of the main oscillation parameters.

Super-NOvA: a long-baseline neutrino experiment with two off-axis detectors

2005

Establishing the neutrino mass hierarchy is one of the fundamental questions that will have to be addressed in the next future. Its determination could be obtained with long-baseline experiments but typically suffers from degeneracies with other neutrino parameters. We consider here the NOvA experiment configuration and propose to place a second off-axis detector, with a shorter baseline, such that, by exploiting matter effects, the type of neutrino mass hierarchy could be determined with only the neutrino run. We show that the determination of this parameter is free of degeneracies, provided the ratio L/E, where L the baseline and E is the neutrino energy, is the same for both detectors.
