Evaluation of carpal tunnel syndrome in patients with polyneuropathy

The difference between the median nerve latency to the second lumbrical muscle and the ulnar nerve latency to the second interosseous muscle (L-I DIFF) was tested in a prospective study to discriminate whether prolonged distal motor latency of the median nerve in patients with polyneuropathy (PNP) reflects an additional carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). We investigated 92 patients (107 hands) with CTS, 30 patients (34 hands) with PNP, 22 patients (27 hands) with CTS and coexisting PNP (PNP+CTS), and 77 controls (87 hands). Latency and amplitude variability in serial median nerve SEP recordings

Abstract Objectives : Intra-individual variability of SEP parameters was investigated by serial SEP recordings. Methods : Median nerve SEP of 53 normal subjects (mean age 25.5±2.7 years) were evaluated. Recordings were repeated 1 week, 2 weeks, and 6 months after the initial recording. Results : Mean values of latencies from right median nerve stimulation were slightly longer (+0.1 ms) as compared to the left. The intra-individual (within stimulation side) variance did not depend on the time interval between recordings. Impaired refractory periods of peripheral sensory nerves in multiple sclerosis.

Maximum conduction velocity and relative refractory period (RRP) of median nerve sensory fibers were studied in 36 patients diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis (MS) and in 31 controls. Maximum conduction velocity did not differ in the two groups, but the RRP was significantly prolonged in MS patients. Increased RRP is observed mainly when peripheral nerve myelin is abnormal or damaged. Our findings support the assumption that peripheral nerve myelinated fibers are usually involved in MS.

Abstract Background Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) is recognized as a prognostic tool in hospitalized patients, but data on the value of MPI in community-dwelling older persons are limited. Using data from a representative cohort of community-dwelling persons, we tested the hypothesis that MPI explains mortality during 15 years of follow-up. The pharmacological activities and acute toxicity of the psilocin (PC) and dried residues of the crude extracts of psychotropic mushrooms were investigated in mice. The hallucinogenic substances were effectively isolated, by using methanol, from the species of Psilocybe semilanceata and Pholiotina cyanopus, that were collected in the north-east region of Poland. Approximation and quasicontinuity of Besov and Triebel–Lizorkin functions

We show that, for $0<s<1$, $0<p<\infty$, $0<q<\infty$, Haj\l asz-Besov and Haj\l asz-Triebel-Lizorkin functions can be approximated in the norm by discrete median convolutions. This allows us to show that, for these functions, the limit of medians, \[ \lim_{r\to 0}m_u^\gamma(B(x,r))=u^*(x), \] exists quasieverywhere and defines a quasicontinuous representative of $u$. The above limit exists quasieverywhere also for Haj\l asz functions $u\in M^{s,p}$, $0<s\le 1$, $0<p<\infty$, but approximation of $u$ in $M^{s,p}$ by discrete (median) convolutions is not in general possible.

The three clostridial cytotoxins, i.e. alpha-toxin of C. novyi (Tox alpha-nov), toxin B of C. difficile (ToxB-dif) and lethal toxin of C. sordellii (LT-sor) consist of single peptide chains of about 200,000 (Tox alpha-nov), 250,000 (LT-sor) and 275,000 (ToxB-dif) mol. wts. ToxB-dif and LT-sor but not Tox alpha-nov cross-reacted with rabbit polyclonal antibodies.
