Oral manifestations in drug users : a review
2020
Background: In the dental environment there is not much talk about the oral manifestations resulting from the use of drugs, because in general the issue of drugs is a very difficult subject to deal with. Therefore, the objective of this work is to understand what are the most obvious manifestations in the oral cavity and as the dentist can detect them. Material and Methods: In order to carry out this bibliographical review, a scientific article search was made by consulting the PubMed database. The abstracts were read to recruit only what was consistent with the chosen topic. Results: The 23 sources of information affirmed the relationship between a bad state of general health, and more in …
Has the use of antipyretics been modified after the introduction of different concentrations of ibuprofen into the market?
2014
Introduction: Due to the emergence of new pharmaceutical presentations of ibuprofen (40 mg/mL), an analysis was made on the use of antipyretics in paediatric outpatients in Spain. Patients and methods: A cross-sectional, observational, descriptive study was carried out on a sample of children under 14 years old with treated febrile syndrome, seen in the Emergency Room of the Hospital General Universitario de Valencia from November 2012 to January 2013. Results: Of the 217 children included, 144 were treated with paracetamol or ibuprofen, 69 received both drugs, and one received paracetamol and metamizol. There were 58.7% of exposures to paracetamol and 40.9% to ibuprofen. The parents decide…
2021
One of the most controverted topics of human rights protection is the role of non-State actors in guaranteeing the rights of individuals since in most cases regional and universal organizations have purely focused their attention on the responsibility of States alone. Accordingly, relevant scholars have urged the need for international law to provide clear and stricter provisions which aim at regulating the conduct of such peculiar actors. Yet, the current international legal realm demonstrates that no legally binding provisions have been adopted and mere soft law instruments have been endorsed at the intergovernmental level. The non-binding character of these instruments provides sufficien…
Prevention of Hereditary Angioedema Attacks with a Subcutaneous C1 Inhibitor
2017
Prevenció; Atac d'angioedema; Inhibidor C1 Prevención; Ataque de angioedema; Inhibidor C1 Prevention; Angioedema attack; C1 inhibitor BACKGROUND: Hereditary angioedema is a disabling, potentially fatal condition caused by deficiency (type I) or dysfunction (type II) of the C1 inhibitor protein. In a phase 2 trial, the use of CSL830, a nanofiltered C1 inhibitor preparation that is suitable for subcutaneous injection, resulted in functional levels of C1 inhibitor activity that would be expected to provide effective prophylaxis of attacks. METHODS: We conducted an international, prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, phase 3 trial to evaluate the …
Combination Therapy of Allopurinol and Dantrolene and Its Role In The Prevention of Experimental Ischemia Reperfusion Injury Of The Small Intestine.
2020
Background: The effect of different drugs on ischemia and reperfusion (I/R; induced oxygen free radical damage) was examined in small bowel tissue because the intestine is extremely sensitive to this pathology. Different drugs (allopurinol and dantrolene) can remove oxygen free radicals or inhibit the mechanisms leading to their generation, thus reducing mucosal lesions. We investigated the protective potential of combination therapy in the intestine against I/R damage. Methods: Forty-eight male Wistar rats were separated into 8 groups: one sham (control), one I/R (ischemia 60 min + reperfusion at 24 h), and 6 groups treated with allopurinol, dantrolene, or combination therapy. The grade of…
Synergistic effect between amoxicillin and TLR ligands on dendritic cells from amoxicillin-delayed allergic patients.
2013
Journal Article; Amoxicillin, a low-molecular-weight compound, is able to interact with dendritic cells inducing semi-maturation in vitro. Specific antigens and TLR ligands can synergistically interact with dendritic cells (DC), leading to complete maturation and more efficient T-cell stimulation. The aim of the study was to evaluate the synergistic effect of amoxicillin and the TLR2, 4 and 7/8 agonists (PAM, LPS and R848, respectively) in TLR expression, DC maturation and specific T-cell response in patients with delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) reactions to amoxicillin. Monocyte-derived DC from 15 patients with DTH to amoxicillin and 15 controls were cultured with amoxicillin in the pr…
Transmission of HIV Drug Resistance and the Predicted Effect on Current First-line Regimens in Europe
2016
Transmitted human immunodeficiency virus drug resistance in Europe is stable at around 8%. The impact of baseline mutation patterns on susceptibility to antiretroviral drugs should be addressed using clinical guidelines. The impact on baseline susceptibility is largest for nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
